Fantasy Football News: Injury Update 12/2/13
Fantasy Football Injury News: Rodgers, Walker and More
December 2, 2013
With the passage of a new week in the NFL comes a new batch of injury concerns, and we’ve definitely got our share of notable fantasy players who are battling various ailments right now. With that in mind, let’s take our weekly Monday-morning look at some of the important fantasy injury issues around the league and see if we can determine what we should be expecting in the near future. Here’s the latest.
Demaryius Thomas, WR, Denver Broncos: Injury-wise, things seem to be okay for Thomas. He caused owners quite a shock yesterday when he came out of the team’s first drive due to a shoulder issue. After getting checked out on the sidelines, he was able to return and post three grabs for 106 yards. It looks like he’ll be fine, but he may be a little sore this week.

Delanie Walker, TE, Tennessee Titans: Walker’s injury really hurt the Titans’ passing attack, and they ended up losing the game. He came out early on after just one catch for five yards and is dealing with an apparent concussion. Walker will have to go through all the usual tests and checkups this week. It’s an unfortunate situation for owners, as he had just started to come alive with 199 yards and two touchdowns in his last three games.
Aaron Rodgers, QB, Green Bay Packers: Have we seen the last of Rodgers this season? It’s entirely possible (as difficult as that may be for his fantasy owners to accept). Although there’s a sense of hope that he may be able to return for his team’s Week 14 game against the Falcons (December 8), there’s also a growing fear that the team may simply opt to shut their Golden Boy down for the season if they’ve sufficiently fallen out of the playoff chase. The Packers have lost five straight, and are quickly losing ground in the hunt for a Wild Card. It’s completely possible that Rodgers has played his last down in 2013.
That said, he’s still maintaining that he’ll be playing this weekend against Atlanta. We’ll just have to watch things in practice this week and keep our fingers crossed.
Kenbrell Thompkins, WR, New England Patriots: After breaking out earlier in the year, Thompkins has struggled to post much in the way of fantasy stats. He still remains on some rosters, however, and was able to generate just one catch in the Pats’ come-from-behind win yesterday. He’s dealing with a hip injury, and though New England is all but quiet when it comes to discussing player ailments, word is that Thompkins had a pretty bad limp after the game. We’ll have to monitor him in practice this week.
Christian Ponder, QB, Minnesota Vikings: We doubt too many of you are using Ponder for fantasy purposes, but we’ll go ahead and throw this out there anyway. Anyhow, he suffered a concussion yesterday during his team’s overtime win over the Bears. His replacement, Matt Cassel, didn’t do much of anything--3-of-8 for 40 yards.
Ponder will have to go through the usual concussion protocols this week before he has a chance to play against the Ravens. Needless to say, he (or any other Vikes QB) isn’t a good fantasy option.
