Fantasy Football Daily: Checking in on Texans-Jags, Cameron and more
December 6, 2013
Week 14 has already begun, and with it comes the first round of playoff action in many fantasy football leagues out there. Even if your team isn’t in the main bracket, you can still do some damage (and save some face) in the consolation matchups. With that in mind, here’s a look at some of the noteworthy fantasy names out there who will be making waves in Week 14.
Texans-Jaguars Fantasy Notes: There weren’t a whole lot of notable fantasy players in the Texans-Jaguars matchup last night, but a few of the deep-league owners out there may have been vested in the game. The rest of us probably had a player or two out there and are waiting on the rest of the games to arrive on Sunday. In any case, here’s a look at the top fantasy performers from the Jags’ 27-20 win.
Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY
Ben Tate: 14 carries; 53 yards
Andre Johnson: 13 rec; 154 yards
Garrett Graham: eight rec; 73 yards; TD
Chad Henne: 117 yards; two TD; 33 rush yards
Maurice Jones-Drew: 14 carries; 103 yards
Marcedes Lewis: two rec; 42 yards ; TD
Victor Cruz, WR, New York Giants: If you’ve been able to make it to the playoffs in your league with Cruz on your roster, you’ve done it without much help from touchdowns. He’s been held out of the end zone since Week 4 against the Chiefs, but (aside from a few stinker weeks here and there) has been reasonably productive when it comes to yardage.
Cruz is coming off a six-reception, 80-yard outing against the Redskins, which in itself was a nice bounce-back from his two-grab, 27-yard game against Dallas. The Giants will make the cross-country trip to San Diego on Sunday, and the Chargers are a good matchup for Cruz. They’re not very good against opposing wide receivers, so he should have another nice day.
DeSean Jackson, WR, Philadelphia Eagles: Let’s stick with the NFC East (and with the WR position) and check out Jackson. He had a disappointing Week 13 against the Cardinals, posting just three catches for 36 yards. The performance was especially frustrating to fantasy owners, who had gotten used to beastly production from the Philly wide-out. Over the previous three games, Jackson had racked up 13 catches for 312 yards and two touchdowns.
That said, there’s reason to remain optimistic about his Week 14 prospects. The Eagles will be facing the Lions at home, which is a nice matchup for Jackson. Look for a pass-heavy, high-scoring game that should yield some significant yardage through the air.
Jordan Cameron, TE, Cleveland Browns: It’s been a while since we’ve analyzed Cameron’s on-field performance, so let’s take a look at him for a moment. It’s been mostly bad news for him in a string of ugly performances since Week 4, and he’s only gotten into the end zone once during that span. He posted 43 yards on four receptions last week against Jacksonville, which actually was his best line of the last four weeks.
Part of Cameron’s problem has been the injury-plagued and woeful play of Cleveland’s QB position. He’s been better with Brandon Weeden than he has with Jason Campbell, but with both of them dealing with concussions this week, who knows what we’ll get. Due to all the uncertainty, Cameron remains something of a “blah” fantasy option.
