Fantasy Football Daily: Checking in on Peterson, Jackson and more
December 7, 2013
Tomorrow marks the continuation of Week 14 in the NFL, and that means playoffs in fantasy leagues everywhere will be kicking into full gear. With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at some of the noteworthy fantasy players out there and see what we should be expecting on our rosters in the next couple of days. Here’s the latest.
Jared Cook, TE, St. Louis Rams: We’ll admit: we’re pretty high on Cook this week--a lot of people are. It makes sense; he’s got a great matchup looming in Arizona tomorrow. The Cardinals are downright awful against opposing tight ends this year, allowing the most fantasy points against the position in the entire league.
Cook has shown some nice chemistry with QB Kellen Clemens, resulting in seven catches for 129 yards and a score over the last two games. If you’re stuck for a tight end, Cook is your guy this week.

Patriots Defense: Another matchup play to consider this week is the Patriots defense. Sure, they’ve been pretty bad this year against the run (thanks mostly to a couple of key injuries), but there’s some light in the proverbial tunnel tomorrow. New England will face the Browns at home, and Cleveland doesn’t have much of a run game to speak of. They’ve been relying on uber-WR Josh Gordon, who will matchup against a very solid corner in Aqib Talib.
Long story short, the Patriots D should be able to post some nice numbers, so fantasy owners shouldn’t hesitate in starting them.
Adrian Peterson, RB, Minnesota Vikings: Peterson is considered questionable for tomorrow’s game against Baltimore. That may sound like a pretty sketchy situation, but in reality the outlook isn’t so bad.
Here’s the situation: he missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday with a groin injury, but was able to take limited reps yesterday. The “Q” tag isn’t an automatic kiss of death, as Peterson has been playing through the issue for the past handful of weeks. Still, owners will want to do their due diligence and check the pregame lineups to make sure he’s there.
Broncos Probables: Owners of Broncos weapons Julius Thomas, Knowshon Moreno and Demaryius Thomas should be pretty happy today. All three have been categorized as probable for tomorrow’s big game against the Titans. Thomas had been fighting a shoulder injury, and Moreno had an ankle issue.
The biggest boost here is to Thomas. He’s missed two games with a knee injury, but it appears he’ll be good to go for this one.
Vincent Jackson, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jackson missed out on Wednesday’s practice, but was able to return in a limited capacity on Thursday and Friday. That’s great news for the Buccaneers, as well as fantasy owners. That said, he's listed as questionable and will be a game-time decision.
Tampa Bay will host the Bills tomorrow, and it’s an excellent matchup for Jackson. Buffalo has allowed the second-most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers, so it should be a big day through the air if he's able to play. Jackson has 61 catches for 963 yards and five touchdowns so far on the year.
