Fantasy Football Injury News: Gronkowski, Peterson and More
December 9, 2013
Many fantasy owners are sitting pretty this morning, what with all the monster performances out there on the field yesterday. That said, we’ve got some areas of concern, thanks to the usual batch of injuries to key fantasy players this week. Let’s take a look at some of the noteworthy ailments out there and see if we can get a feel for what to expect in the coming week. Here’s the latest.
Adrian Peterson, RB, Minnesota Vikings: During the second quarter of the Vikings’ loss to the Ravens, Peterson was carted to the locker room with what was initially called an ankle injury. He sustained the ailment after being fallen on by a Baltimore LB.
After the game, the Vikings announced that Peterson had suffered a sprained foot. The good news is that the initial X-rays were negative, but we’ll have to wait for the results of a scheduled MRI today before we can make any determinations on a possible recovery window.

Rob Gronkowski, TE, New England Patriots: This one looks pretty bad, so you’ll definitely want to get a backup plan together ASAP. Gronkowski was knocked out of the Patriots’ comeback victory over the Browns yesterday with a knee injury. It didn’t take long for the rumors to start emerging, and the belief here is that Gronkowski sustained a torn ACL, which would mean the end of his season. As with Peterson, he’ll be getting an MRI today, so cross your fingers and pray that the fears are unfounded. (That said, make sure you’re hitting the waiver wire today.)
Reggie Bush, RB, Detroit Lions: No one was quite prepared for the sketchy conditions happening in Philadelphia for the Lions-Eagles game yesterday. Apparently Bush wasn’t either, since he slipped on the snowy field during pre-game warm-ups and aggravated a calf injury that had him listed as questionable. He wouldn’t be able to take the field for the game.
We’ll have to wait for some more reports to come out of Detroit before we can make a determination on Bush’s status for next week against Baltimore, but hopefully the Lions were simply being cautious given the crummy weather.
Lamar Miller, RB, Miami Dolphins: In another run of bad news for RBs around the league, Miller suffered an injury during his team’s victory over the Steelers yesterday. He suffered a concussion during the game and was unable to return to action. Miller was originally on the injury report with a pectoral issue.
He’ll have to pass the league’s standard concussion protocols before being cleared to return to action next week against the Patriots.
Tavon Austin, WR, St. Louis Rams: There’s not much information out there on Austin’s status, so we’ll have to wait until the Rams make an official announcement. Here’s what we do know: he had just one catch (nine yards) and one rush (56 yards) before injuring his ankle and coming off the field. Austin came back for a short time, but then left once more. Assuming he didn’t aggravate it any further, the fact that he was able to come back to the game is a good sign. That said, we won’t assume anything until an official update from St. Louis.
