Fantasy Football 2013: Week 15 Waiver Wire Running Backs
Waiver Wire RBs for Week 15 in Fantasy Football
December 10, 2013
We’re headed into round two of the playoffs in many fantasy leagues out there (or round one in others), which magnifies each and every decision that owners make regarding their lineups. With that in mind, let’s take our weekly look at the waiver wire and check out some of the trending names out there at the running back position. There’s lots of movement this week, mostly thanks to the injury concerns to some of the top names. We’ll examine each player and see if he’s a good fit for a stretch run through the fantasy playoffs.
Toby Gerhart, Minnesota Vikings: Adrian Peterson owners will want to pay close attention here; Gerhart is basically an automatic “just in case” add. We’ll have to wait and see if Peterson’s able to overcome his sprained foot in Week 15 (he says he will be), but if he’s not, then Gerhart is the guy.
He posted a nice day against the Ravens, with 15 carries for 89 yards and a touchdown. He’ll be seeing the Eagles this week, which isn’t the greatest matchup in the world, but if Peterson is out, Gerhart will receive a big enough workload to be relevant.

Daniel Thomas, Miami Dolphins: Thomas has basically done a 180 in the last few weeks. There was a time not so long ago when we thought his season was over. Now he’s the man in the Dolphins backfield after a concussion injury to starter Lamar Miller. With Miller out, Thomas racked up 105 yards and a TD on 16 carries against the Steelers.
The Dolphins will face the Patriots in Week 15 in a pretty crucial game. If Miller can’t come back from his concussion in time, Thomas will get a heavy workload in a pretty decent matchup.
Marcel Reece, Oakland Raiders: In a pretty strange and unexpected turn of events, Reece played the star of the Raiders’ rushing attack in Week 14 against the Jets. He posted 19 carries for 123 yards and a TD, then added another 38 on a pair of catches. Best of all, he did that against a very good run defense.
Reece got the nod due to Darren McFadden (ankle) and Rashad Jennings (concussion) being out with injuries. Assuming they’re both out again, Reece will carry the load in Week 15. The bad thing is that he’ll be playing against the Chiefs.
Joique Bell, Detroit Lions: Here’s a weird one. The Lions’ starting RB Reggie Bush was all set to go in Philly on Sunday, but he slipped on the snowy field during pre-game warm-ups and aggravated a calf injury. In his absence, Bell got the workload, and he came up with 127 yards and a TD on 27 touches. He also fumbled twice, but that was mostly due to the yucky weather.
If Bush is out or limited on Monday against the Ravens, Bell will take his place. He’s definitely a precautionary add at the very least.
