Fantasy Football Injury News for Week 15: Cutler, Peterson and More
December 14, 2013
We’re coming down to crunch time in the second round of the fantasy football playoffs, and injuries are as rampant as ever. One ailing player can cost your team a hard-fought season, so with that in mind let’s take a look at some of the major injury concerns heading into Week 15 in the NFL and what they’ll mean to us owners.
Jay Cutler, QB, Chicago Bears: It’s official: Cutler is listed as probable on the Bears’ injury report for tomorrow’s game against the Browns. This announcement comes on the heels of him being named the team’s starter on Thursday.
Cutler is an interesting option for those fantasy owners in need of a QB to fill in this week. He’s a solid pickup for those still without Aaron Rodgers (who has been officially ruled out) and also those who were utilizing his backup Josh McCown.

Willis McGahee, RB, Cleveland Browns: Let’s stick with this game and check out McGahee for a moment. He has officially been ruled out for tomorrow, thanks to a concussion he’s been dealing with this week.
McGahee’s absence opens up a door for those owners in need of RB help this week. Chris Ogbonnaya will likely get the brunt of the workload in his absence, and should put up some decent numbers against a very porous Bears run defense. See if you can snag him off waivers.
Adrian Peterson, RB, Minnesota Vikings: It’s as we figured with Peterson: he’s been stuck with the dreaded “game-time decision” label for the Vikings’ game against Philadelphia this week. If there’s a positive indicator here, it’s that he was able to practice lightly yesterday after sitting out Wednesday and Thursday due to his sprained foot.
Peterson owners will just have to bite the bullet here and keep watch on the lineups before tomorrow’s game. He’s still worth a start, just because of who he is, but may cede reps to backup Toby Gerhart.
Maurice Jones-Drew, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars: Things aren’t looking too good for Jones-Drew. He’s missed out on practice all this week thanks to a hamstring injury, and has officially been listed as doubtful on the team’s injury report for their game against Buffalo tomorrow.
The news is unfortunate, as Jones-Drew had been putting up a string of solid outings recently, including a 123-yard effort in Week 14. There’s still an outside shot he could play, but don’t get your hopes up.
Jonathan Stewart, RB, Carolina Panthers: Stewart has a torn MCL and won’t be playing tomorrow against the Jets. The injury could possibly end his season as well, so if you’ve got him on your roster it’s probably time to cut the cord.
That said, Stewart’s absence puts a little bit of life into the fantasy prospects of fellow running backs DeAngelo Williams and Mike Tolbert. It’s too bad they’re heading into a bad matchup against New York. About the only thing the Jets can do right is stop the run. You should probably look elsewhere if you’re in search of an RB.
