Daily Fantasy NBA 1/22/14: Matchup Plays and Value Picks
Fantasy Basketball Daily Leagues: Sleeper Picks and Advice for Tonight's Matchups
January 22, 2014
After a relatively light evening last night, the NBA will be getting back into gear tonight. That means we fantasy owners will have to be on our toes, as there will be a lot of lineup implications out there on the court. With that in mind, let’s take our daily look at some of the potential breakouts in tonight’s matchups and see who you should be targeting if you need a sleeper or fill-in.
D.J. Augustin, PG, Chicago Bulls: Even before his breakout on Monday, Augustin was already on the way up the waiver wire rankings. He cemented that status with a season-high 27 points, four rebounds and four assists against the Lakers, which marked his fourth consecutive double-digit scoring effort.
A Kirk Hinrich injury (hamstring) earned Augustin some extra minutes, and he made great use of them. Even when Hinrich comes back, Augustin is worth owning in fantasy due to his solid play. Make sure you get him before tonight in Cleveland.

Patrick Beverly, PG/SG, Houston Rockets: A triumphant return to the lineup sparked Beverly’s nice line on Monday against Portland. He posted 17 points, two rebounds and three assists in his first game back after breaking his hand on Dec. 20.
Don’t completely jump the proverbial gun on Beverly just yet; We still need to see if he’s capable of sustaining any sort of production. His inconsistencies have raised some question marks in fantasy, so if you have the luxury of waiting, see what he does against the Kings tonight. Otherwise, he’s a lower-end speculative add.
DeMarre Carroll, SF/PF, Atlanta Hawks: Carroll missed out on the Nets game last week due to a persona matter, but he was back and playing well against Miami on Monday. He put up 19 points, six rebounds and a steal in 36 minutes of action, which gives him double-digit points in his last two outings.
Carroll sputtered at the beginning of the season, but he seems to have it figured out now--especially since Al Horford is gone. He’s definitely worth a pickup, and should have a nice game against the Magic tonight.
Rodney Stuckey, PG/SG, Detroit Pistons: Stuckey has battled some injury problems since the middle of last month, but for the most part he seems to be all healed up now. His stat lines would tend to agree: He’s coming off a 29-point, four-rebound, four-assist game against the Clippers, which was his third consecutive outing with at least 20 points.
If Stuckey is still out there in your league, get him while he’s hot. Even if he switches to a new team (he’s been in trade rumors for quite some time), he’s worth an add. The Pistons are in Milwaukee tonight.
Josh McRoberts, PF/C, Charlotte Bobcats: It’s been a while since we’ve checked out Roberts, but his recent play has him making his way up the waiver wire rankings once again. He put up 11 points, four rebounds and five assists against Toronto in his last outing, which was his fourth consecutive double-digit scoring outing.
In addition to a handful of rebounds and assists each game, fantasy owners who pick up McRoberts can count on a few three-pointers as well. He may have to rely on that outside shot against the tough interior of the Clippers tonight.
