Daily Fantasy NHL 1/23/14: Matchup Plays and Value Picks
Fantasy Hockey Daily Leagues: Sleeper Picks and Advice for Tonight's Matchups
January 23, 2014
With the heavy NHL schedule tonight, there will be plenty of fantasy concerns happening out there. That makes this morning a good time to visit some of the recent waiver wire trends and popular adds out there to see if anyone’s right for your team. Here’s a list of some of the trending names; We’ll take a closer look at each player to see if we can determine his future value.
Roman Josi, D, Nashville Predators: Josi is the hottest defenseman on the wire right now, thanks to his stellar play as of late. In his last four games, he’s posted two goals, four assists and a plus-4 rating. On the season, he has six scores and 14 helpers, so he’s definitely playing his best hockey of the year so far.
Up next for Josi and the gang is a four-game road trip. He should continue to see heavy minutes-loads (high-20s), starting in Vancouver tonight.

Ryane Clowe, LW/RW, New Jersey Devils: Clowe has been a points machine lately, and he’s been one of the most consistent fantasy names at this level. He has at least one point in seven of his last eight outings, with a plus-3 rating, three goals and seven assists in that span.
Clowe missed the majority of the Devils’ games so far with a concussion, so he’s playing catch-up right now. It won’t take much longer before he’s owned in just about every league, so if he’s still out there in yours, snatch him up. He plays tomorrow night at home against the Capitals.
Chris Kreider, C/LW, New York Rangers: After a four-game streak with no points, Kreider came alive in his last outing against the Islanders on Tuesday. He posted a goal and a pair of assists for his first points since Jan. 12. That said, he’s been contributing in other ways, with a plus-4 in the two games before that.
Kreider has 13 goals and 17 assists through 40 appearances so far, which makes him worth owning in most circumstances. He’ll get a home game against the incoming Blues tonight.
Nick Bonino, C, Anaheim Ducks: The Ducks have lost two of their last three games, so the buzz surrounding them has died down a bit. Still, you shouldn’t overlook Bonino, who has some definite fantasy potential. In his last 11 games, he’s put up six goals and seven assists, including three points in his last two outings.
Bonino has been paying off well for the owners who had the foresight to give him a shot. We don’t see any reason why he won’t continue riding high tonight in the first installment of a home-and-home against the Kings.
Ondrej Pavelec, G, Winnipeg Jets: Our goalie candidate today is Pavelec, who had a pretty rough start to begin the year. He seems to have found his stride recently, however, and has posted wins in each of his last four outings. During the streak, he hasn’t allowed more than two goals in any game.
Pavelec posted a nice 42-save win against the Ducks on Tuesday, which should pique your fantasy interest. The Jets will finish off their brief California trip tonight in San Jose.
