Daily Fantasy NBA 1/25/14: Matchup Plays and Value Picks
Fantasy Basketball Daily Leagues: Sleeper Picks and Advice for Tonight's Matchups
January 25, 2014
We’ve got another full day of NBA action heading our way in the coming hours, so it’s time to give those fantasy lineups a look before the tip-offs. With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at some of the trending players out there who should be putting up some nice numbers in their games today. If you’re looking for a sleeper or a matchup play, here’s where to start.
Courtney Lee, SG/SF, Memphis Grizzlies: We’ll start this morning off by taking a look at Lee, who had a nice game last night as part of a string of good outings. He put up 19 points, one rebound, two assists and a steal in a win over Houston, which was his second straight 19-point outing. He now has double-digit points totals in five of the last six.
When Tony Allen comes back, Lee’s value will go down a bit, but for now he’s worth a look in fantasy while he’s maintaining this shooting clip. He’s a lower-end target for the other side of the home-and-home against Houston today.

Gustavo Ayon, PF/C, Atlanta Hawks: Here’s an interesting play. The Hawks have had to rely on Ayon due to their injuries at center, and he’s a trending pickup because of it. He got the start last night, putting up eight points, seven rebounds, two assists, four steals and a pair of blocks against San Antonio.
Ayon will see some extended minutes going forward, at least until Pero Antic gets healthy. Low-end, sure, but a nice stopgap in Milwaukee today.
Taj Gibson, PF/C, Chicago Bulls: Gibson resumed his bench duties yesterday and played pretty well. He put up 18 points, four rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block against the Clippers in a loss, which is his third straight double-digit scoring outing.
Gibson is worth picking up and spot-starting in most leagues when he’s set to get extra minutes, as in the case of injuries or matchups. The Bulls will be down in Charlotte to face the Bobcats tonight.
James Johnson, SF/PF, Memphis Grizzlies: We’ve covered Johnson a handful of times over the past couple of weeks, and he continues to maintain a strong waiver wire presence. He filled the stat-sheet again last night, posting 10 points, seven rebounds, five assists, a steal and two blocks against Houston.
If Johnson is still out there in your league, don’t hesitate to grab him. He’s an across-the-board fantasy talent, and should continue to post strong numbers, starting at home against the Rockets tonight.
Lou Williams, PG/SG, Atlanta Hawks: Here’s another spot-starter to check out down in Atlanta. Williams got a big up-tick in minutes last night thanks to injury, playing 37 against the Spurs. He responded with 12 points, three rebounds, seven assists and two steals.
Prospective owners will want to check out the injury situation prior to kicking the tires on Williams, but if everything works out, he makes a decent lower-end start against Milwaukee tonight.
