Daily Fantasy MLB 5/1/14: Matchup Plays and Value Picks
Fantasy Baseball Daily Leagues: Sleeper Picks and Advice for Upcoming Matchups
May 1, 2014
With the MLB transitioning from early-week series into the weekend today, it’s a good time to tinker with your fantasy lineup. With that in mind, we’ve got our daily recommendations handy, so let’s take a closer look at some of the trending players out there and see if anyone’s a good fit for your lineup.
Marcus Semien, 2B/3B, Chicago White Sox: Early this week, Semien really came on strong and turned a lot of heads in fantasy. In a three-game stretch, he produced four hits, five runs, two RBI and a stolen base, but came up empty yesterday.
Semien is still benefiting from a banged-up White Sox lineup, but while he’s getting starts we might as well give him a look. This is a temporary add, obviously, but with the thin talent pool at 2B, you owe it to yourself to check him out.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Miami Marlins: Hey, look: Saltalamacchia’s back. Everyone’s favorite tongue-twisting catcher went off in the Atlanta opener, nailing a solo homer among his two runs and three hits. It was his third long-ball in a four-game stretch. He was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI yesterday.
Saltalamacchia has been doing his part, but with a sketchy Marlins lineup by his side, there haven’t been too many RBI opportunities for him. Still, if you’re in need of a fantasy backstop, he’s the hot name right now.
Trevor Plouffe, 3B, Minnesota Twins: Even though he came out of last Saturday’s game due to a triceps contusion, and didn’t play for two games after that due to postponements, Plouffe has remained a hot waiver wire commodity this week. He got a hit and two RBI yesterday.
Plouffe has been playing pretty darn well to start out this season, and he deserves some consideration among the mid-level fantasy 3B guys out there. The stellar hitting is definitely his ceiling, so enjoy it while it’s happening.
Omar Infante, 2B, Kansas City Royals: With such a thin 2B market out there in fantasy, Infante has gotten some extra attention this week. He started things off very well Sunday, with a homer and six RBI against Baltimore in the finale. He kept it going Tuesday with two more RBI, and was 1-for-3 with a run yesterday.
Infante is off to quite the scorching start this year--especially for him. Keep in mind that he’s never eclipsed 55 RBI in a season, even though he’s well on his way to breaking that mark in 2014.
Justin Morneau, 1B, Colorado Rockies: We haven’t checked in on Monreau in a while, so let’s see how he’s doing. Even a casual glance at his stats will tell you how much he’s destroying expectations, rattling off a .357 BA with six homers and 22 RBI heading into yesterday’s finale against Arizona. (He posted an 0-fer in the game, however.)
Morneau has been red-hot pretty much all year, and he’s thriving in the rare air of Colorado. Starting tomorrow, he’ll be headed back there and should continue mashing. He's a must-have guy if you can still get him.
