Daily Fantasy MLB 5/22/14: Matchup Plays and Value Picks
Fantasy Baseball Daily Leagues: Sleeper Picks and Advice for Upcoming Matchups
May 22, 2014
MLB teams are finishing up their mid-week series today, and there are plenty of opportunities out there for enterprising fantasy baseball owners to take advantage of. With that in mind, let’s take our daily look at some of the popular roster trends out there and see if anyone’s right for your team.
Sean Doolittle, RP, Oakland Athletics: We’ve talked about Doolittle a few times over the past couple of weeks, and he’s a hot topic yet again. He nabbed his third save of the year on Tuesday in the Tampa Bay opener, tossing a one-walk inning and fanning a pair. He then got his fourth yesterday with a one-hit inning.
Doolittle is the hottest thing going right now when it comes to fantasy closers. If you’re in need of a ninth-inning man, he’s the one to target. Following today’s finale in Tampa, he’ll be heading to Toronto.

Ronald Belisario, RP, Chicago White Sox: We’ve got two RP prospects for you today, but this one is more of a speculative add than anything. Belisario got a save against the Royals on Tuesday, but certainly made things interesting as he gave up two hits and an earned run in the process.
We’re not super-jazzed about Belisario, as he’s not even guaranteed to have the interim job while Matt Lindstrom is banged up. Still, he’s about the best option the Sox have in that position, so he’s better than nothing in deep leagues.
Jorge De La Rosa, SP, Colorado Rockies: Let’s complete our pitching triple-dip by checking out De La Rosa. He’s definitely on a roll right now, recording wins in his last five straight, with just seven earned runs split in between those games.
After a horrid start to the season, De La Rosa seems to have figured out something. He’s still got some work to do on his ERA (4.14) but his WHIP is coming along (1.20). He’ll be on the mound again today at home against the Giants.
Carl Crawford, OF, Los Angeles Dodgers: No one’s given Crawford too much attention this season, but maybe that should change. He carried a five-game hit streak into yesterday’s matchup against the Mets, logging six runs, two homers, five RBI and three stolen bases in that span. He came up empty yesterday, though.
Crawford has done wonders for his BA this month, and if he continues on this path he’ll become a popular name in fantasy yet again. This is your chance to hop on the bandwagon while it’s still moving slowly.
Garrett Jones, 1B/OF, Miami Marlins: We’ve talked about Jones a few times this year, and here he is again. He made some major waves on Tuesday with a 4-for-5 performance against the Phillies that yielded two RBI (and two of those hits were doubles). He had two hits, three runs and two RBI yesterday.
Jones has a couple of things working against him, not the least of which is that he plays for the Marlins. He also occupies a couple of deep fantasy spots, so you might not want to make a move unless you’re in a deeper league. The early signs here are good, though.
