Daily Fantasy MLB 6/5/14: Matchup Plays and Value Picks
Fantasy Baseball Daily Leagues: Sleeper Picks and Advice for Upcoming Matchups
June 5, 2014
Thursday is always an important day in the fantasy baseball season. It’s time to start looking forward to the weekend, but also finish up with the mid-week series in the MLB. With that in mind, let’s take our daily look at some of the noteworthy players out there who are making waves as potential adds for your fantasy roster.
Jon Singleton, 1B, Houston Astros: We’ve been on the Singleton train all week, and he proved us right by belting a homer in his first Major League appearance on Tuesday. He came up empty in his second game yesterday, though.
Singleton comes in with a lot of hype behind him, so it may be hard to pry him out of the hands of other fantasy owners, but in leagues where he’s still available he’s definitely worth snatching up on pure potential alone. He’ll head to Minnesota tomorrow.

Jacob deGrom, SP/RP, New York Mets: When it comes to pitching, the Mets have certainly seen their ups and downs. There’s some promise in deGrom, however, especially in this next matchup. He’s coming off a three-earned outing in Philly, where he gave up a three-run homer to do all the damage and struck out 11.
Even better, deGrom gets the Cubs today, and we all know how favorable a matchup that is. Give him a look if you’re in the market for a new SP name.
Josh Willingham, OF, Minnesota Twins: Willingham has turned a lot of heads in fantasy this week, and he’s been on quite the power trip in the process. He entered play yesterday with a seven-game hit streak to his credit, with four homers in a six-game span. He had two more hits, two runs and an RBI yesterday.
We’re not sure where this power is coming from, but we definitely like it. Willingham will come back to earth at some point, but in the meantime you might as well get in on the action while you can.
Collin McHugh, SP, Houston Astros: Let’s head back to Houston and check out McHugh, who has made this space a few times before. He’s coming off a nice five-inning win Tuesday, giving up no earned on just two hits and fanning four batters.
McHugh is rocking a nice 2.52 ERA and 0.96 WHIP on the season, which makes him relevant in pretty much any mixed league. His next start will be Sunday in Minnesota, where he’ll try to get his fifth win of the year.
Michael Bourn, OF, Cleveland Indians: Bourn is pretty hot right now, and his recent play has caused a lot of chatter among fantasy circles. Heading into yesterday’s finale against Boston, he had 10 hits in a seven-game streak, posting six runs, a homer and five RBI in that frame. He was 1-for-6 with a run yesterday.
Bourn has been producing well enough to put himself into the conversation for pickup in most leagues. He’ll hit a homer and steal a base here and there, which is all a welcome addition to what should be a decent BA.
