Daily Fantasy MLB 6/19/14: Matchup Plays and Value Picks
Fantasy Baseball Daily Leagues: Sleeper Picks and Advice for Upcoming Matchups
June 19, 2014
Now that it’s Thursday, it might be tempting to overlook the mid-week series and start checking out the weekend in the MLB. We’ve still got some interesting opportunities playing out today, however, so with that in mind let’s check out our daily suggestions on up-and-coming players you might want to add to your fantasy baseball team.
Andrew Heaney, SP, Miami Marlins: We’ve checked in on Heaney once or twice this week already, but we’ll go ahead and mention him again today in case he’s still out there in any leagues.
Heaney will be making his Major League debut today against the Mets at home, and he carries with him the potential to absolutely destroy the hitting at this level. As one of baseball’s top prospects, he came up with a 2.47 ERA and 1.096 WHIP at the Minor League level this year. He needs to be owned everywhere.

Derek Norris, C, Oakland Athletics: Here’s another familiar face to this space, as Norris has gathered quite a fantasy following recently with his exploits at the plate. Heading into the rangers finale, he’d posted seven hits, three runs, two homers and eight RBI in his previous four games. He posted another hit yesterday.
Norris looks like the real deal, and is putting up starter numbers in fantasy. His average is sky-high and his RBI are coming in at a frantic pace, making him the must-have catcher in the game right now. The Red Sox come to town today.
Danny Duffy, SP/RP, Kansas City Royals: Let’s head back to the mound and check out Duffy, who is another hot SP pickup. He’s coming off a seven-inning win in Chicago against the Sox, allowing no earned on five hits with one walk and nine strikeouts.
Duffy is rocking a 2.83 ERA and 1.11 WHIP on the season, and will head into an important matchup in Detroit today. If he can maintain form and keep his run going, he’ll make an excellent addition to your fantasy arsenal down the road.
Brock Holt, 1B/3B/OF, Boston Red Sox: Holt just keeps on hitting, and as a result he just keeps on getting added in fantasy. Heading into yesterday’s finale against Minnesota, he had at least one hit in five of his previous six, posting four runs, two RBI and two steals in that span. He came up empty yesterday, though.
If you roll with Holt, you won’t be getting overwhelming power or anything, but that’s not really the point. He does offer some nice consistency right now, and with that corner/outfield positional eligibility, he’s a useful tool in fantasy.
Billy Butler, 1B, Kansas City Royals: Let’s head back to Kansas City and check out Butler, who has been one of the hottest guys in the game recently. Heading into yesterday’s game, he had a seven-game hit streak going, with seven runs, a homer and 10 RBI in that frame. He was 1-for-4 yesterday.
Most people who picked up Butler before the season were counting on some nice power, which just hasn’t been there yet. Still, with this consistency it’s hard to ignore him. He’ll get streaky here and there, and right now those headaches are worth it.
