Daily Fantasy MLB 8/1/14: Matchup Plays and Value Picks
Fantasy Baseball Daily Leagues: Sleeper Picks and Advice for Upcoming Matchups
August 1, 2014
Today’s a big one for fantasy owners. We’re beginning the weekend series around the MLB, which will bring on a slew of new opportunities to move up the ladder in your league. With that in mind, let’s take our daily look at some of the notable fantasy players out there you might want to consider picking up.
Jedd Gyorko, 2B/3B, San Diego Padres: Over the past couple of days, Gyorko has been one of the hottest tickets in fantasy. Much of that is due to his 3-for-5, two-run, four RBI day against the Cardinals on Wednesday. He followed that up with a solo homer yesterday.
After a horrid start to the year, Gyorko is showing some very intriguing signs of life. If he can sustain this production (which he is capable of doing), he’ll make a stellar add down the stretch.

Wei-Yin Chen, SP, Baltimore Orioles: Chen is on quite a roll, and he’s gaining lots of fantasy attention because of it. He’s coming off an eight-inning, no-earned performance in a win against Seattle, which was his fourth straight victory.
On the season, Chen has a 3.92 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP along with his 11 wins. He’ll have his hiccups here and there, but on the whole he’s been a great mid-level pitcher. He’ll see Seattle again at home today.
Matt Shoemaker, SP/RP, Los Angeles Angels: Shoemaker is an intriguing fantasy add heading into his start today. He’s coming off a nice seven-inning, no-earned effort against Detroit, allowing just three hits in the process.
That was a good bounce-back for Shoemaker, as he allowed four earned in 5 2/3 innings in his start before that. He’ll be heading into Tampa Bay today, which looks like a pretty good matchup for him.
Lucas Duda, 1B/OF, New York Mets: Duda has turned a lot of heads this week in fantasy. Heading into the Giants series, he had a six-game hit streak going, during which he’d posted seven runs, four homers and a nice 10 RBI total. He slammed another homer yesterday in a two-hit, two-run, three-RBI day.
Duda has just been destroying it when it comes to power numbers this past month. Even if he can’t keep it up at such a stellar rate, there’s no reason not to add him as a utility guy.
Josh Harrison, 2B/3B/OF, Pittsburgh Pirates: Harrison has been a popular pickup in fantasy recently, and it’s not too tough to see why. He came into yesterday’s matchup with a four-game hit streak, providing eight hits, six runs, six RBI, two steals and most importantly four straight home runs. He posted another hit yesterday to keep it going.
Harrison is as close to a must-have player as you can get right now, so he needs to be owned in just about every fantasy format. Don’t let him slip away.
