Fantasy Football Injury News: Week 1 Outlook on Ailing Players
September 6, 2014
Most of the NFL teams haven’t even taken the field yet, but we’re already knee-deep in all sorts of injury speculation. That’s just par for the course in a fantasy football owner’s world, so with that in mind let’s take a look at a few of the developing injury situations and see if we can tell what we should be expecting on our rosters tomorrow.
Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is listed on the team’s injury report as probable due to his ailing back (he had surgery during the off-season). We’re not completely sold on the fact that he’s totally healthy just yet, but he seems to be well enough for the opener against the incoming 49ers. With both teams ailing on defense, you can expect a relatively high-scoring affair here.

The Broncos’ Emmanuel Sanders seems to be okay as well. He’s listed as probable for tomorrow’s game against the Colts, and has a full week of practice under his belt with no recurring agitation from his ailing thigh.
One of the big injury storylines from the past coupe of days is the Cardinals’ ailing super-back Andre Ellington. He was out of practice yesterday, and was scheduled for an MRI on his injured foot.
There are some sources out there speculating that he could end up missing an “extended” amount of time, likely around a month. It's supposedly a muscular issue. You can probably count on him being out for this week against the Chargers.
Needless to say, that’s a devastating blow to fantasy owners who spent a high-end pick on Ellington, hoping he’d take another step forward from his breakout campaign last year.
The Bengals’ Tyler Eifert is listed as probable due to a shoulder injury. He’s a key player to watch this season as he’s been pegged as a breakout by numerous outlets (including this one).
Both Tom Brady and his teammate Rob Gronkowski have been ruled questionable for tomorrow’s opener against the Dolphins in Miami. Brady missed practice on Thursday due to a calf injury but was back out there yesterday. Gronkowski is still trying to get back out on the field following his torn ACL last year.
The good news here is that both players are expected to take the field tomorrow, so there’s not a whole lot to worry about in fantasy. Still, we’d keep an eye on them up until the final game-day reports are released.
Redskins tight end Jordan Reed was listed as questionable on the team’s injury report for tomorrow’s opener in Houston. He’s been fighting the effects of a sprained thumb for the past week or two.
Reed was able to practice yesterday, however, so that’s a good sign as far as his playing chances go. We’d imagine he’ll be out on the field and well on his way to fulfilling his lofty fantasy potential tomorrow afternoon.
