Fantasy Football 2014: Week 9 Key Matchups
Taking a Look at the Favorable Week 9 Matchups in Fantasy
October 29, 2014
It’s a fantasy football Week 9 Wednesday, and that means it’s time once again to start looking forward to the impending matchups in the NFL and see if we can find any waiver-wire level diamonds in the rough. We’ve got a few promising players for your consideration today, so let’s take a closer look at the numbers and see if anyone looks like a solid start in your league.
Kansas City Chiefs Defense: Let’s start out on D today, as KC is probably the hottest trend as far as adds right now. They’re coming off a big 19-point effort against St. Louis last week, posting seven sacks, an interception and holding the Rams to just seven points.
Looking ahead, the Chiefs have a few nice matchups looming. That’ll start this week with the hapless Jets, whose season was already over a couple of weeks ago. They’ll also get Buffalo and Oakland in the next month.

Lorenzo Taliaferro, RB, Baltimore Ravens: We like Taliaferro this week less for his matchup and more for his touchdown-vulturing capabilities. He irritated Justin Forsett owners last week with 27 rush yards, 42, receiving yards and a pair of close-yardage touchdowns.
It’s looking like Taliaferro is the Ravens’ new short-yardage and goal line guy, and he shouldn’t have a whole lot of trouble against the Steelers’ relatively permissive run defense.
Cincinnati Bengals Defense: Let’s double-dip on defense this week and check out the Bengals. Sure, they haven’t done much to inspire confidence lately, with a five-point performance (one sack, two picks) against Baltimore last week, but there are greener pastures on the horizon.
Cincinnati will host the Jaguars at home this week, and though the Jags have shown a bit of improvement, they’re still the Jags. Use the Bengals here and then dump them until the Houston/Tampa Bay games down the road.
Andrew Hawkins, WR, Cleveland Browns: Hawkins has somehow floated under the radar for most of this season, but he’s finally getting some due attention lately. He’s coming off a seven-catch day against Oakland that netted 88 yards and a touchdown--his first score of the season.
The Browns will host a crummy Buccaneers defense this week, so he’s got a good shot at getting another score here. He should definitely be on your short list with the byes this week.
Carson Palmer, QB, Arizona Cardinals: Our QB pick this week is Palmer, who has really been impressive when he’s been on the field this year. He has a pair of touchdowns in each of his four starts, along with at least 250 yards passing in every game.
Palmer is edging in on starter territory against the Cowboys this week, especially considering the fact that his counterpart for that game, Tony Romo, may not even make it out on the field.
