January 13, 2015
We’re heading into a heavy evening of NHL action tonight, which makes this morning a perfect time to check out some of the tantalizing waiver wire finds out there in the world of fantasy hockey. We’ve got a few trending players today for you to look at, so let’s examine the numbers to see if anyone’s right for your team.
Petr Mrazek, G, Detroit Red Wings: Mrazek will be seeing an increased workload moving forward, thanks to starter Jimmy Howard’s injured groin. That happened in Saturday’s game against the Caps.
As a result, Mrazek is the trendy pickup on the waiver wire right now as far as goalies go, more out of necessity than anything. He carries a 2.29 GAA with a .916 save percentage to go along with his five wins.

Colin Wilson, C/LW, Nashville Predators: We’ve talked about Wilson a couple of times over the past week or so, and we’ll get to see him back in action tonight against Minnesota. He’s got a nice five-game run going, posting four assists and two goals in that span.
Wilson also has a plus-7 rating in that time, making him a nice all-around pickup for needy fantasy owners. He’ll be at home against Vancouver tonight trying to improve on his 12 goals and 14 assists.
Mathieu Perreault, C, Winnipeg Jets: Perreault has been pretty darn hot recently, posting three goals and four assists in his last seven games. He’s got a plus-2 rating in his last three outings combined.
Perreault has been taking a decent amount of shots in recent games, and it’s showing in his stats. If he can keep it up, he’s a nice fantasy play for the needy. He has 11 goals and 13 assist on the season so far.
David Savard, D, Columbus Blue Jackets: For defensemen right now, you’re going to want to look Savard’s way first. He has two goals and two assists over his last six games and has been pouring in the hits with a steady frequency.
Savard is a nice goal-scoring addition to your fantasy roster, especially if you consider his hits numbers. The plus-minus isn’t really there (minus-10), but everything else is solid. He plays tomorrow.
Derick Brassard, C, New York Rangers: The Rangers have a big game against the isles tonight, and they’re going to want to be ready. That’s where Brassard comes in, as he’s provided a nice lift at his level recently.
Brassard has put up three goals and three assists in his last five games, with a plus-5 rating in that span. With 11 goals and 22 assists on the season, you can’t really deny his fantasy value any longer. Pick him up and hope the Rangers’ streak of great play holds up.
