We’re heading into a pretty heavy evening of NHL hockey in the coming hours, which makes this morning as good a time as any to discuss fantasy hockey and the trending players on the waiver wire. Whether you’re in a seasonal or a daily league, you’ll want to familiarize yourself with these guys, so let’s take a closer look at the recent stats to see why.
Jonathan Huberdeau, C/LW, Florida Panthers: Huberdeau is one of the hot tickets on the fantasy market today, following a four-game points streak. He’s got four assists and a plus-2 rating in his last two games alone.
Huberdeau has 13 goals and 36 assists to his name this season, which are nice totals for a waiver-wire player. He’ll be in Boston tonight.

Cam Atkinson, RW, Columbus Blue Jackets: Atkinson continued his charmed run in St. Louis this weekend, putting up a goal and an assist in a win over the Blues. He’s got four goals and three assist in just his last three games.
Atkinson also has a nice plus-7 rating in his last four games, giving him 20 goals and 17 assists on the season. He and the Jackets are on quite the hot streak right now.
Jaromir Jagr, RW, Florida Panthers: Let’s head back to Florida for a moment and check out the longtime veteran Jagr. He put up two goals in Ottawa this weekend, extending his points streak to four games.
Jagr has three goals and four assists in his last six outings, giving him 15 scores and 26 assists on the season. He’s a nice pickup right now in the fantasy hockey sense.
Matt Niskanen, D, Washington Capitals: Now let’s flip the script and head over to the defensive side as we check out Niskanen. He helped out with an assist against New York in his last outing, which gives him four helpers in three games.
Niskanen has a total of seven assists in his last six games alone, giving him 25 on the season. He’s also rocking a nifty plus-9 rating this season.
Brian Gionta, RW, Buffalo Sabres: Gionta had another multi-point evening last night, collecting a goal and an assist (both on empty nets) in a win over the Coyotes in Arizona.
Gionta has six points in his last four games, and although he only has 11 goals and 17 assists on the season, he’s heating up at the right time for fantasy owners in need of a late-season kick.
