Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice – Thursday, April 16th 2015

  • High Value:  Cole Hamels – Philadelphia Phillies

Cole Hamels pitched well against the Nationals last Saturday putting up a line of 7.0 IP, 1 ER, 2H, 2 BB, 5 K’s. Outside of the Nationals 10 run game against the Red Sox, the Nationals have really struggled from the plate. Washington’s current line-up is only batting .202 (82-406) against Hamels and he has recorded 106 strikeouts in those combined AB’s.

  • Low Value: Archie Bradley – Arizona Diamondbacks

Bradley was slated as one of the top overall baseball prospects going into last year however, struggled in spring training and had a down year that included injury. Bradley is a power pitcher that has the ability to get some strikeouts and although pulling out a win against Madison Bumgarner will be tough, he should be able to have success against a San Francisco offensive that has only put up 24 runs in 9 games.

  • High Value: Travis D’Arnaud – New York Mets

D’Arnaud connected for a Home Run last night and should be in the heart of the Mets order in the weeks to come with the recent injury to David Wright. D’Arnaud is batting .308 on the year and a solid .292 against righties this season. D’Arnaud is 1-2 with a walk in previous matchups against Jarred Cosart.

  • Low Value: Jordan Pacheco – Arizona Diamondbacks

Although Pacheco is going against one of the best in Madison Bumgarner, he has had great success against the 2014 World Series MVP. In his career, Pacheco is hitting .370 (10 for 27) with a home run and 6 RBI’s.

First Base

  • High Value: Adam Lind – Milwaukee Brewers

Not only has Adam Lind started of the year batting .417 through his first 8 games, he has absolutely owned John Lackey throughout his career. Lind is currently batting .576 (15-18) against Lackey with 6 doubles and 6 RBI’s.

  • Low Value: Joe Mauer – Minnesota Twins

Joe Mauer might not be the hitter he once was but he is hitting .300 over the last seven days and .353 against lefties on the season. Mauer has had success against Vargas in the past hitting .407 (11-27) with 6 RBI’s.

Second Base

  • High Value: Dee Gordon – Miami Marlins

He’ll be the most expensive 2nd Baseman but with the way he is hitting and stealing lately, it’s hard not to still take Gordon. Over the last 7 days, Dee Gordon is hitting .400 (4-10) days while stealing 6 bases.

  • Low Value: Scooter Gennett – Milwaukee Brewers

Scooter Gennett has struggled a bit early on the season but all of his hits have come against right-handed pitchers and he has gone 2-3 lifetime against John Lackey. The Brewers are hitting .390 against Lackey as a team so there is a decent chance that Scooter could have some RBI opportunities in this one.

  • High Value: Jose Reyes – Toronto Blue Jays

Reyes is hitting .333 in the young season and .367 of the last 7 days. Reyes has had the best success of any Blue Jay against the Rays Chris Arching hitting .450 (9-20) with 3 walks.

  • Low Value: Jhonny Peralta – St. Louis Cardinals

St. Louis hasn’t had much success against Mike Fiers but Peralta has a lifetime .333 (2-6) average against Fiers with a home run. Peralta is batting .400 on the season against righties and is hitting .375 during day games in 2015.

Third Base

  • High Value: Josh Donaldson – Toronto Blue Jays

Josh Donaldson doesn’t have any experience against Chris Archer but has collected at least 2 hits in the past 2 games against the Rays. Donaldson seems to be seeing the ball well as of late and certainly has the power to get his first home run of the season in this one.

  • Low Value:  Cody Asche – Philadelphia Phillies

Cody Asche is the hottest hitter in the Phillies as has been bating over .500 in his last 7 games and has a .333 (2-6) average in his lifetime against the Doug Fister. Ashe has a little power as he hit 10 homeruns in 2014 and has shown in his young career that he can hit righties.

  • High Value: Carlos Gomez – Milwaukee Brewers

Carlos Gomez is starting to get hot as he is currently on a 6 game hitting streak with at least 2 hits in his past 2 games. Gomez is batting just .286 against John Lackey, however, with the success that his teams have had against Lackey, along with Gomez hitting well as of late, makes him a solid pick for Thursday.

  • High Value: Giancarlo Stanton – Miami Marlins

Stanton finally paid off fantasy owners with a big night on Wednesday and although he only 1 hit against Dillon Gee in his career, the hit was a home run. It’s only a matter of time until Stanton goes on a power streak and after going 3-3 and making some solid contact on the ball it’s should be any day until he lunches one over the fence.

  • Low Value: Marcell Ozuna – Miami Marlins

Ozuna has had a slow start to his year but has generally batted 6th in the line-up and has a good chance to have a runners on when he comes to bet. Ozuna does have some good pop in his bat and has had success against Dillon Gee in the past as he currently is hitting .500 (5-10) against Gee.

  • Low Value: Torii Hunter – Minnesota Twins

Torii Hunter hasn’t had the storybook beginning in his first season back with Minnesota and although he passed his prime, he has had some good success against Jason Vargas as he is batting .310 (13-42) lifetime against Vargas. Although Hunter is past his prime, he still has a little power in his bat and can deposit one in the seats if Vargas leaves it over the plate.
