Fantasy Baseball Update 4/23/15: Key Matchups This Weekend

It’s Thursday, and that means it’s time once again for us fantasy owners to start looking forward to another set of series this upcoming weekend. While we’re waiting, let’s check out some of the notable players on the waiver wire level who could come up big in their games over the next few days.
Zack Cozart, SS, Cincinnati Reds: We’ve checked in on Cozart a couple of times already this year, and here he is again. In the first two games of the Milwaukee series, he put up four hits, four runs, three homers, six RBI and a stolen base. Not too shabby. He came up empty yesterday, though.
Cozart normally isn’t much of an offensive draw, but he’s starting things out very well this season. He’s the hot pickup on the wire now and should play well against the Cubs this weekend.
Anthony DeSciafani, SP/RP, Cincinnati Reds: Before we leave Cincinnati, let’s check out DeSciafani, who will be pitching the middle game of the Chicago series. He’s coming off an eight-inning effort in Milwaukee that yielded no earned, two hits, one walk and five strikeouts.
DeSciafani has two wins so far and a sterling 0.86 ERA with a 0.62 WHIP. Those who picked him up in fantasy drafts are smiling already.
Derek Norris, C, San Diego Padres: Norris is the catcher to own off the waiver wire right now, as he’s had a good week. Heading into yesterday’s matchup in Colorado, he had eight hit, five runs and three RBI in his previous four appearances. He put up another hit, a run and an RBI yesterday.
Norris has played well to start the season, and has proven himself to be a very nice fantasy catcher thus far. Snatch him up.
Chris Young, OF, New York Yankees: Young’s big effort Tuesday in Detroit got a lot of fantasy owners’ attentions. He went 3-for-3 in that one, providing a solo homer and a double. He got three more hits and two more runs yesterday.
Young has been hitting well this year when he gets the opportunities, so make sure he’s in the lineup if you grab him in fantasy. He should serve you well while he’s on this hot streak heading into the Mets series.

Luis Valbuena, 2B/3B, Houston Astros: Let’s finish up today with Valbuena, who is making some noise down there in Houston. Heading into last night’s matchup in Seattle, he had four hits, three runs, three homers, five RBI and a stolen base in his prior three games. He posted a goose-egg yesterday, though.
Valbuena has been a nice pickup for the Astros, but we’d like to see him keep that BA over .250 for a little while before getting too excited. Let’s see if he can do it in Oakland this weekend.
