Daily Fantasy Baseball – High Cost / Value Picks – 5/31/15

Here is my lineup for tonight’s games. Please note that I’m using the salary cap based on FanDuel prices.

Also, as this is written the day before/morning of the games, please check the lineups and weather to ensure you have all active players going tonight!

  • Yordano Ventura – Kansas City Royals

(From Yesterday’s Write-Up) – I’m going to keep my Pitcher/Catcher from yesterday as the Cubs/Royals game was postponed due to weather on Saturday.

Yordano Ventura is having a subpar season posting a 3-4 record with a 4.64 ERA and 1.23 WHIP while striking out 43 batters in 54.1 IP. Ventura has been up and down all season, however, I like him as my play at the pitchers position tonight as we don’t have many “ace” options and that he is going up against the Cubs who lead MLB in total strikeouts. The Cubs have struggled at the plate as of late putting up just 2.2 runs per game over their last five contests. Ventura has one of the better arsenals for a young pitcher as his fastball can reach triple-digits and although he has struggled a bit, he does have “ace” potential and I’m willing take a chance with him against the free-swinging Cubs.

  • Salvador Perez – Kansas City Royals

(From Yesterday’s Write-Up)

Salvador Perez is hitting only .176 over the past week but still is hitting .289 on the season with 6 homeruns and 25 RBI’s. I don’t fully understand why Perez price tag is currently only $2,300 which in the same class of Brett Hayes and Chris Stewart but I’ll continue to plan to take advantage of the low price for a catcher that has good power. Perez will be squaring off against Tsuyoshi Wada of the Chicago Cubs on Saturday night and although he has yet to face the left-hander, Perez is hitting .320 (16-50) with 3 homeruns and 10 RBI’s off lefties in 2015. With the money I can save on Perez, it will allow me to spend big at some of the other positions tonight.

First Base

  • Prince Fielder – Texas Rangers

Prince Fielder is hitting .361 on the season with 10 homeruns and 38 RBI’s and has a favorable matchup against a struggling Joe Kelly of the Boston Red Sox. Fielder is hitting an incredible .400 with 6 homeruns and 27 RBI’s against right-handed pitching and is hitting .375 at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. Joe Kelly is 1-4 on the season with a 6.24 ERA and although Fielder has limited experience against Kelly (1-3 lifetime), the slugging first baseman is hitting .381 in May and should have a good Sunday against the Sox.

Second Base

  • Jose Altuve – Houston Astros

Jose Altuve has started to pick it up as of late as the second baseman has hit .318 over the past week and now has a .297 average with 5 homeruns and 25 RBI’s on the season. Altuve has a good matchup on Sunday as he goes against John Danks of the Chicago White Sox in which he has posted a career .333 average with a homerun against. Altuve has been great against left-handed pitching on the season hitting .400 (24-60) with a homerun and 4 RBI’s. Altuve hit .345 against the White Sox in 2014 and has collected at least two hits in three of his last five games.

  • Elvis Andrus – Texas Rangers

Elvis Andrus is hitting just .240 on the season with 2 homeruns and 18 RBI’s and although he has struggled against righties on the season (hitting .202), I’m going to roll with him against Joe Kelly of the Boston Red Sox today. Andrus has hit .271 against right-handed hitters over the past three seasons and although Andrus has dipped a bit offensively over the past few years, I do expect his numbers to raise a bit as the season progresses. Andrus has hit .364 against the Red Sox over the past three seasons and as I think Texas could have a good day against Joe Kelly and Sox, I’ll take my chances with the veteran shortstop.

Third Base

  • Evan Longoria – Tampa Bay Rays

Evan Longoria is only hitting .273 over the past week however is having a decent season as Longoria is hitting .280 with 5 homeruns and 24 RBI’s on the season. Longoria has a great matchup against Chris Tillman of the Baltimore Orioles in which he has posted a career .395 average (.947 slugging %) with 6 homeruns and 9 RBI’s. Longoria is hitting just .276 at Camden Yards over the past three seasons but does have 4 homeruns and 10 RBI’s.

  • Giancarlo Stanton – Miami Marlins

Giancarlo Stanton is hitting just .232 on the season but is still crushing the ball as currently has 15 homeruns and 44 RBI’s on the season. Stanton has hit three homeruns over the past five games and has a great matchup against Bartolo Colon in which he has posted a career .625 (5-8) average with 2 homeruns and 5 RBI’s. Stanton is hitting .306 with 5 homeruns and 10 RBI’s against the New York Mets and has 4 homeruns at Citi Field on the season.

  • High Cost – Hanley Ramirez – Boston Red Sox

I’m going go with Hanley Ramirez against on Sunday as although the first year is hitting just .257 on the season, he has 12 homeruns and 26 RBI’s. Ramirez is hitting just .222 over the past week but has hit .333 (4-12) with 2 homeruns and 3 RBI’s against the Rangers in their current series. Ramirez has fared well against Wandy Rodriguez as in his career he has posted a .370 average with 2 doubles, 2 triples, a homerun and 4 RBI’s. Ramirez is hitting .289 and has an incredible .996 OPS against left-handed pitchers so far in 2015.

  • Avisail Garcia – Chicago White Sox

Avisail Garcia has been battling a knee injury as of late, however the young outfielder is having a great season hitting .325 average with 4 homeruns and 18 RBI’s. Garcia has been great on the road all season hitting .397 with 3 homeruns and 11 RBI’s and although he hasn’t faced Roberto Hernandez of the Houston Astros in his career, he is hitting .315 against right-handed pitchers on the season.
