Daily Fantasy Baseball – High Cost / Value Picks – 6/3/15 (Late Games)

Here is my lineup for tonight’s games. Please note that I’m using the salary cap based on FanDuel prices and my lineup will only include players from the later games on Wednesday.

Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice – 6/3 (Late Games)

Also, as this is written the day before/morning of the games, please check the lineups and weather to ensure you have all active players going tonight!

  • James Shields – San Diego Padres

I’m going to back “Big Game” James Shields on Wednesday night as I like his matchup against a New York Mets team that has had it’s struggled against right-handed pitchers on the season. On the season, Shields has posted a 6-0 record with a 3.69 ERA and 1.21 WHIP and has an impressive 88 strikeouts in 68.1 IP. Shields has been on point as of late as in his last four starts he has stuck out 33 batters over 26.0 IP and  hasn’t given up more than 3 ER in any of those starts. Shields has limited experience against the New York Mets, however, he is holding the current Mets roster to just a .174 average. The Mets are batting just .236 and ranked 10th in total strikeouts against right-handed pitching on the season. Shields will be pitching at home at PETCO Park on Wednesday which is generally one of the best pitchers parks in the MLB and I expect him to continue his solid start to the season and get us 7 innings with around 8-10 K's.

  • Yasmani Grandal – Los Angeles Dodgers

I’m going to load up on the Dodgers/Rockies game today and will take Yasmani Grandal who is hitting .287 with 5 homeruns and 20 RBI’s on the season. Grandal missed time recently due to a concussion but got right back into the swing of things this past weekend hitting a homerun in his first game back.  Grandal will be facing Chad Bettis of the Colorado Rockies and in his career, he is hitting .333 (1-3) against the right-hander with a walk and RBI. Grandal should be hitting from the left-side of the plate tonight and as all five of his homeruns have come from that side of the plate and he will be at Coors Field tonight, I think he is worth the money at the catchers position on Wednesday.

First Base

  • David Ortiz – Boston Red Sox

I need to save some salary at the first base position tonight and I’m going to go with the struggling David Ortiz as he does have a good matchup against Trevor May of the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday. Ortiz is hitting just .224 (career .284 hitter) with 6 homeruns and 18 RBI’s, however, the average is really down due to his struggles against left-handed pitchers in 2015 in which he hitting just .129 (8-62). Ortiz has all 6 of his homeruns and is hitting a more respectable .277 against right-handed pitchers in 2015 and has hit .301 against righties over his past three seasons. Ortiz has never faced May in his career, however May has really struggled as of late giving up 16 ER (3 homeruns) in his last 23.2 IP. Ortiz is hitting .333 (4-12) over his past three games and I hope he can excite the Fenway Faithful on Wednesday night with a homer in the bleacher seats.

Second Base

  • Enrique Hernandez – Los Angeles Dodgers

Enrique Hernandez has started each of the three games in Colorado and although I will be checking to ensure he gets a fourth straight start, he is a great value pick at the 2B (although has been playing SS) on Wednesday. Hernandez is hitting .265 on the season with 2 homeruns and 5 RBI’s but has been hot as of late as in current series against the Rockies he is hitting .364 with 2 runs, a homerun, and a RBI. Hernandez is hitting .400 with a 1.400 OPS against the Rockies in 2015 and although my expectations won’t be high on him to come through with major points, I’m hoping he can rack up a couple of hits and maybe a run or two on Wednesday.

  • Troy Tulowitzki – Colorado Rockies

Troy Tulowitzki is finally swinging a hot bat and I’m looking for him to have another big day on Wednesday. Tulowitzki is hitting just .287 with 5 homeruns and 23 RBI’s on the season, however over his past four games he is hitting .471 with 3 homeruns and 5 RBI’s. Tulowitzki will be facing off against Mike Bolsinger of the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday in which in his career he is hitting .666 (2-3) with a homerun and 2 RBI’s. Tulowitzki has hit .354 at Coors Field and .364 (1.016 OPS) in the month of June over his past three seasons. Tulowitzki has always been known to go on tears and as he seems to be raking it at the moment, I’m willing to shell over the salary to get him on my team tonight.

Third Base

  • Mike Moustakas – Kansas City Royals

Corey Kluber has been probably the hottest pitcher in MLB over the past few weeks, however, if there is one player that has been a thorn in his side, it’s been Mike Moustakas of the Kansas City Royals. Kluber has already faced the Royals twice this season and in those two games, Moustakas has hit .778 (7-9) with 4 runs scored. Moustakas’s price tag has been mysteriously low all season even though he has posted a .318 average with 5 homeruns and 16 RBI’s on the season. Moustakas has a .342 average and .902 OPS against right-handed pitchers on the season and will hope he stays hot against Corey Kluber and the Indians on Wednesday.

  • Carlos Gonzalez – Colorado Rockies

Carlos Gonzalez has really struggled on the season as coming into tonight he has posted just a .226 average with 4 homeruns and 13 RBI’s, however, the right fielder has been hot as of late posting a .375 (9-24) average over the past week. Gonzalez will be going up against Mike Bolsinger of the Dodgers on Wednesday in which he has posted a career .33 (2-6) average with a double. Gonzalez has hit all four of his homeruns against right-handed pitchers on the season and has hit .329 at Coors Field over his last three seasons. It will be on a matter of time until Gonzalez starts to raise his average as he is a career .290 hitter and I’m banking that he continues his recent hot streak tonight against the Dodgers.

  • Joc Pederson – Los Angeles Dodgers

If you haven’t seen the absolute bomb Pederson hit last night, you need to go watch it. Pederson is hitting just .260 on the season but the rookie has an incredible 16 homeruns and 31 RBI’s on the season and has hit 4 homeruns in his past 4 games. Pederson as a 1.224 OPS at Coors Field on the season and although we would like to see Pederson gather a few more hits, he is solid play tonight as he goes against a right-hander and has been crushing the ball lately when he is making contact.

  • Delmon Young – Baltimore Orioles

I didn’t have too much salary left at this point and looking at my options, I figured Delmon Young could offer me the most bang for my buck as he always has the potential to get us a homerun or two in any given game. Delmon Young is having a solid season with Orioles posting a .307 average with 2 homeruns and 13 RBI’s on the season. Young has been raking it as of late as over the past week he is hitting .421 with 2 solo homeruns. Young is hitting .400 against the Astros on the season and although he is facing a tough rookie in Lance McCullers of the Astros, I think Young has decent value for his price tag on Wednesday.
