Here is my lineup for tonight’s games. Please note that I’m using the salary cap based on FanDuel prices.

Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice – 6/29/15

Also, as this is written the day before/morning of the games, please check the lineups and weather to ensure you have all active players going tonight!

Pitcher – Jimmy Nelson – Milwaukee Brewers

Jimmy Nelson is having an up and down season in his 2nd year in the majors, however, as the right-hander is coming off his best start of the season and has a favorable matchup against the Philadelphia Phillies, he is going to my starter on a night in which there is really no true “ace” to choose from. In his recent start against the Mets, Nelson picked up a victory while going 8 innings, giving up just 1 run on 2 hits while striking out 5. Nelson currently is posting a 4.34 ERA on the season, but his real value on Monday night comes against for the fact that he is facing a Philadelphia team that ranks 29th in runs scored and 24th in batting average. Nelson currently is sporting a 7.4 K/9 ratio on the season while the Phillies have a strikeout % of 19.1%. Nelson has struggled a bit against LHB’s on the season, but on a day in which we don’t have much to work with when it comes to pitchers, I think Nelson can get 7 innings with 5-8 K’s and a win.

Catcher – Russell Martin – Toronto Blue Jays

Russell Martin is hitting .268 on the season with 11 homeruns and 37 RBI’s and has a good matchup against Clay Buchholz of the Boston Red Sox on Monday. Martin has really struggled as of late as he has only collected one hit in his last fifteen AB’s, however, I do like him tonight as in his career he has a .316 (6-19) average with 4 homeruns against the right-handed Buchholz. Martin has been great at the Rogers Centre on the season as he has posted a .304 average and .953 OPS at home on in 2015. Martin is averaging a homerun in every 18.7 AB’s against RHP and has 7 of his 11 homeruns at the Rogers Centre on the season. Martin is hitting .379 (11-29) against the Red Sox so far this season and I think a visit from Boston is exactly what Martin needs to break out of his currently slump.

First Base – David Ortiz – Boston Red Sox

David Ortiz is still struggling with his batting average as the career .283 hitter is hitting just .231 on the season, however Ortiz has starting to find his power a bit as of late and now has 12 homeruns and 35 RBI’s on the season. Ortiz has a solid matchup against R.A. Dickey of the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday as in his career, Ortiz has posted a .360 (9-25) average with 3 homeruns and 8 RBI’s. Ortiz has always had success at the Rodgers Centre with the homerun ball as he currently holds the record of most homeruns hit by an opposing player at the Rodgers Centre. Ortiz has been much better against RHP on the season as he does have a .282 average and .930 OPS and as Big Papi has hit 6 homeruns so far in June, I hope he can continue to display the long-ball on Monday night.

Second Base – Jason Kipnis – Cleveland Indians

Jason Kipnis has been on an absolute tear throughout the 2015 season as the veteran second baseman is currently hitting .342 with 5 homeruns, 31 RBI’s and 10 SB. Kipnis had a tough Sunday going 0-7 with 4 strikeouts in the doubleheader against Baltimore, however, he is still hitting .320 over his past week. Kipnis will be up against the right-handed Nathan Karns of the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday in which in his limited experience, he is 2 for 3 with a double. Kipnis has destroyed RHP on the season as he has posted a .382 average and 1.023 OPS against righties in 2015. Kipnis has a great series against Tampa bay earlier in the season in which he posted a .600 (6-10) average with 2 doubles and 2 walks and I’m hoping that he can continue his hot hitting against the Rays on Monday night.

Shortstop – Xander Bogaerts – Boston Red Sox

Xander Bogaerts has really picked it up in the month of June and is now hitting .294 with 3 homeruns and 31 RBI’s on the season. Bogaerts has a good matchup on Monday against R.A. Dickey of the Toronto Blue Jays as in his career, Bogaerts has hit .400 (8-20) with 2 doubles and 3 RBI’s against the Knuckleballer. Bogaerts is hitting .327 so far in the month of June and has fared well against RHP on the season hitting .293. Bogaerts has recently been hitting 3rd in the batting order for the Red Sox which adds to his value and as Dickey has struggled against the Red Sox in 2015 (3 starts, 0-2, 6.16 ERA), I like Bogaerts tonight.

Third Base – Joey Gallo – Texas Rangers

Joey Gallo has slowed down a bit over the past week or so however, in limited time, the slugging third baseman does have 5 homeruns and 10 RBI’s in his young career. There is no question that Gallo has the power to take the ball out of the ball park with any swing, however, it will be important that Gallo continues to work on his plate discipline as he has recorded 39 strikeouts in his first 82 AB’s. I’m taking a chance on Gallo tonight as I like his matchup against a struggling Bud Norris of the Baltimore Orioles. Coming into Monday’s matchup, Norris is posting a 6.70 ERA and 1.61 WHIP. Norris has really has troubles against LHB as he is allowing LHB to have a .325 average and .958 OPS against him in 2015. I expect Gallo to be in the lineup tonight and going to take a chance that he can have some success against Norris.

Outfield – Mike Trout – Los Angeles Angels

Mike Trout is having another outstanding season as the reigning MVP is hitting .300 with 19 homeruns, 42 RBI’s, and 8 SB. Trout will be facing C.C. Sabathia of the New York Yankees on Monday night in which in his career, he has posted a .364 average and 1.280 OPS. Trout has been outstanding against LHP on the season as he has posted a .317 (19-60 average) with 3 homeruns and 7 RBI’s. Sabathia has really struggled against RHB on the season as RHB’s have a .339 average and .954 OPS against him in 2015. Sabathia has already allowed 17 homeruns in 87.2 IP so far this season and I certainly see Trout collecting his 20th HR tonight.

Outfield – Carlos Gomez – Milwaukee Brewers

Carlos Gomez is hitting .316 over the past week and is currently hitting .279 with 5 homeruns, 26 RBI’s, and 7 SB so far in 2015. Gomez has a great matchup against Sean O’Sullivan of the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday in which in limited experience, Gomez is 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI’s against the right-hander. O’Sullivan has really struggled in 2015 as he has posted a 5.34 ERA and 1.50 WHIP while giving up 14 homeruns in just 60.2 IP. Gomez has fared well against RHP on the season as he has posted a .288 average and has performed better away from Miller Park as he has a .341 average on the road this season. Over the his past three seasons, Gomez has  a .313 (25-80) average against the Phillies and I expect this success to continue tonight.

Outfield – Andre Ethier – Los Angeles Dodgers

Andre Ethier has really struggled as of late as he is just 1 for his last 19 and is currently hitting .260 with 9 homeruns and 27 RBI’s on the season. The good news for Ethier is that he will be facing against a struggling right-hander in Arizona’s Allen Webster on Monday night. Webster comes into this matchup with a 6.46 ERA and 1.50 WHIP and his given 13 runs in just 15.1 IP so far in 2015. After hitting above .300 in both April and May, Ethier has really struggled in June however, he has done well on the season against RHP as all 9 of his homeruns have come against righties on the season. The Dodgers have really struggled from the plate over the past few weeks, however, I think they have a great matchup against Webster tonight and for the bargain price of $2200, I think Ethier is a good value pick on Monday.
