Daily Fantasy Baseball – 7/6/15

Here is my lineup for tonight’s games. Please note that I’m using the salary cap based on FanDuel prices.

Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice – 7/6/15

Also, as this is written the day before/morning of the games, please check the lineups and weather to ensure you have all active players going tonight and that any pitching matchups mentioned below haven’t changed. Good Luck everyone!

Pitcher – Dallas Keuchel – Houston Astros

It really came down to either Dallas Keuchel or Carlos Carrasco today and although Houston does lead the league in strikeouts, I like Keuchel’s matchup against Cleveland better as the Indians have really struggled against LHP so far on the season. Dallas Keuchel is having an outstanding season as the left-hander is currently posting a 2.03 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and has 102 K’s in 124.1 IP. Keuchel has been great as of late as in his last two outings he has gone 17.0 innings without giving up a run while striking out 19 batters. Cleveland biggest threats on offensive generally come from the left side of the plate (Kipnis, Brantley and Moss) and Keuchel has been dominate against LHB on the season holding LHB to a .126 (12-95) average and .341 OPS. Keuchel does have a tough matchup against Carrasco however, I think Keuchel will be able to once again go deep into the game and get us 8-10 K’s and hopefully the Astro offensive can provide him with his third straight win.

Catcher – Buster Posey – San Francisco Giants

Buster Posey has been on a tear as of late as he is hitting .368 with three homeruns over the past week and now is posting a .304 average with 14 homeruns and 57 RBI’s on the season. Posey has a great matchup against the left-handed Jonathon Niese in which he has posted a career .364 (8-22) average and .982 OPS. Posey has a .353 average and 1.013 OPS against LHP over his past three seasons and is currently hitting .462 (6-13) against the NY Mets in 2015. Niese has pitched well for the Mets this season but he is currently allowing RHB to have a .290 average and .810 OPS against him. Posey is an expensive option at catcher, however he is currently riding an 11 game hit streak and I think he’ll be able to have some success against Niese tonight.

First Base – Adam LaRoche – Washington Nationals

With spending a lot of money at the Pitcher and Cather positions, I’ll need to start saving some money elsewhere and it begins by taking Adam LaRoche of the Chicago White Sox. LaRoche is only hitting .231 on the season and .182 over the past week, however the 11-year veteran still has some power as he has hit 9 homeruns and driven in 31 RBI’s on the season. LaRoche will be going against the left-handed Mark Buehrle of the Toronto Blue Jays in which he has posted a .375 (6-16) average with 2 doubles and 2 homeruns in his career. Buehrle has pitched great in the month of June posting a 1.75 ERA, but is a very hittable pitcher who actually generally has more difficulty against LHB than RHB. Buehrle is allowing LHB to have a .271 average and .823 OPS against him and I’m hoping that LaRoche can continue to have success against Buehrle on Monday night.

Second Base – Ian Kinsler – Detroit Tigers

Ian Kinsler is finally starting to look a bit of the Kinsler of old as he has hit .345 over the past week including two 3-hit games over his past 4 contests. Kinsler is still hitting just .269 on the season with 2 homeruns, 36 RBI’s and 6 SB’s however, he has a great matchup against Seattle’s Hisashi Iwakuma. In his career against Iwakuma, Kinsler has posted a .391 (9-23) average and 1.288 OPS (3 homeruns). Iwakuma has really struggled in his three starts this year as he currently is posting a 6.61 ERA and has allowed 5 homeruns in just 16.1 IP. Iwakuma is allowing RHB to have a .333 (9-27) average and 1.011 OPS against so far in 2015. Kinsler has actually fared better against RHP on the season and with the struggles that Iwakuma seems to be having I think that Detroit hitters, including Kinsler, will be a solid stack option today.

Shortstop – Asdrubal Cabrera – Tampa Bay Rays

Asdrubal Cabrera is only hitting .226 on the season with 5 homeruns and 22 RBI’s, however is riding a 4 game hit streak and has a good matchup against Edinson Volquez of the Kansas City Royals on Monday. In his career against Volquez, Cabrera has a .375 (3-8) average with a homerun and 3 RBI’s. Cabrera has a lot of experience against the Kansas when he was with the Indians and has fared well against the Royals as over the past three seasons he has posted a .329 (55-167) average. The shortstop position is incredibly thin if you don’t go with Correa however, as Cabrera has generally been at the top of the Tampa Bay lineup he should at least have plenty of opportunity to get some quality points today.

Third Base – Trevor Plouffe – Minnesota Twins

I know you must all be thinking I’m a huge Trevor Plouffe fan as this is the third consecutive day I’m selecting him however, I think value for Plouffe is once against too much to pass up as he has another favorable pitching matchup on Monday.  Plouffe is only hitting .254 on the season but he does have 10 homeruns and 43 RBI’s and has been hitting .296 over the past week. Plouffe will be up against the left-handed Wei-Yin Chen on Monday in which in his career he has posted a .364 average and 1.182 OPS against. Chen has pitched well on the season as he comes into this contest with a 2.84 ERA, however he has given up 15 homeruns on the season including 4 homeruns in his last 2 games. Plouffe has been much better at Target Field this season as he has a .277 average with 8 of his 10 homeruns at home and I think he’ll be able to have success once again on Monday.

Outfield – Yoenis Cespedes – Detroit Tigers

Yoenis Cespedes is having a decent season with the Tigers as he has posted a .292 average with 10 homeruns and 44 RBI’s but his real value on Monday comes in his matchup against the struggling Hisashi Iwakuma of the Seattle Mariners. As I mentioned in the write-up for Ian Kinsler, Iwakuma has really struggled in his three starts this year as he currently comes into the matchup with a 6.61 ERA and has given up 5 homeruns in just 16.1 IP. Cespedes has always hit Iwakuma hard as in his career he has posted a .417 (10-24) average with 5 doubles and 3 homeruns. Cespedes is hitting over .300 away from home on the season and for an affordable price tag of $3500, his 1.417 OPS against Iwakuma is too hard to pass up on Monday.

Outfield – Melky Cabrera – Chicago White Sox

Melky Cabrera is hitting only .259 on the season with 3 homeruns and 30 RBI’s, but has been hot as of late as he is hitting .316 over the past week and .400 so far in July. Cabrera has a great matchup against Toronto’s Mark Buehrle as in his career, he has posted a .567 (17-30) average with 2 homeruns and 7 RBI’s against the left-hander. Cabrera has fared well against Toronto on the season as he currently is hitting .308 against the Blue Jays in 2015. Cabrera has never been much of a homerun hitter, but he does have 2 homeruns in his last 6 games. I don’t have much salary left so I need to find some value players and with his incredible 1.467 OPS against Buehrle, I’ll be happy to spend just $2600 on Cabrera tonight.

Outfield – Andre Ethier – Los Angeles Dodgers

I think Ethier will be a popular pick tonight as the Dodgers right fielder has been hitting .429 over the past week and has a great matchup against the right-handed Sean O’Sullivan of the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday. Ethier comes into Monday’s matchup with a .270 average with 10 homeruns and 28 RBI’s with all 10 of his homeruns coming against RHP on the season. Ethier has yet to face Sean O’Sullivan in his career, however, O’Sullivan has really has really had a difficult season as he comes in with a 5.76 ERA and 1.58 WHIP. Sullivan has been awful against LHB as on the season he has allowed LHB to have a .369 average and 1.154 OPS against. Sullivan has allowed 14 homeruns in just 65.2 IP on the season and I think Ethier along with the other LHB Dodgers could be in for a big night.
