Daily Fantasy Baseball – 7/9/15 (Late Games)
Here is my lineup for tonight’s games. Please note that I’m using the salary cap based on FanDuel prices.
USA TODAY Sports
Also, as this is written the day before/morning of the games, please check the lineups and weather to ensure you have all active players going tonight and that any pitching matchups mentioned below haven’t changed. Good Luck everyone!
Pitcher – Zack Greinke – Los Angeles Dodgers
We have a few good options tonight, but I’m once again going with Zack Greinke of the Los Angeles Dodgers as the right-hander is having a phenomenal season and has a great matchup against the weak hitting Philadelphia Phillies. Greinke is currently posting a 1.48 ERA and 0.89 WHIP while striking out 98 batters in 115.1 IP. Greinke is currently posting a 7.6 K/9 ratio and has a strikeout percentage of 22.22%. Greinke will be up against the Philadelphia Phillies team that ranks 24th in MLB with a .243 average and 29th in MLB in runs scored against RHP. Greinke hasn’t faced the Phillies in 2015 however, went 7 innings giving up just 2 runs while striking out 11 in his one start against Philadelphia in 2014. Greinke hasn’t given up a run in his last 4 games (27.2 IP) and I don’t see any reason why he can’t pitch another shutout tonight while getting us around 20 fantasy points.
Catcher – Yasmani Grandal – Los Angeles Dodgers
Yasmani Grandal got the night off last night as AJ Ellis is generally the catcher for their ace Clayton Kershaw, but we should expect Grandal back in the lineup tonight and with the way Grandal been swinging the bat, we should make sure he is in our lineups. Grandal is having a great first season with the Los Angeles Dodgers as he is posting a .277 average with 14 homeruns and 36 RBI’s and has been hot as of late as he is hitting .385 with 2 homeruns and 5 RBI’s over the past week. Grandal hasn’t faced the right-handed Severino Gonzalez of the Philadelphia Phillies yet in his career, however, Gonzalez has struggled in his limited starts as he currently has an ERA of 8.28 and a WHIP of 1.76. Grandal has done the majority of his damage against RHP on the season and as Gonzalez is allowing LHB to have a .487 (23-47) average and 1.218 WHIP against him, Grandal is a great option tonight.
First Base – Justin Bour – Miami Marlins
Justin Bour has been a nice surprise for the Miami Marlins this year as although the rookie first baseman is hitting just .255 on the season he has shown his power by connecting on 10 homeruns. Bourn is hitting just .211 over the past week but I do like him as a value play today with his potential to be able to hit a homerun with any swing of the bat. Bour will be up against the right-handed Michael Lorenzen of the Cincinnati Reds in which in his limited experience against Lorenzen has posted a career average of .667 (2 for 3) with a double and homerun. Bour has done all his homerun damage against RHP so far on the season as Lorenzen is allowing LHB to hit .298 on the season, along with giving up 12 homeruns in just 65.1 IP, I think Bour is a solid play at an affordable price tonight.
Second Base – Dee Gordon – Miami Marlins
I’m going to stay with Miami and good with the speedy Marlins second baseman in Dee Gordon on Thursday. Dee Gordon has slowed down from his scorching start to the season, however, is still hitting .333 on the season with a homerun, 21 RBI’s, and 30 SB’s. Gordon will be going up against Michael Lorenzen of the Cincinnati Reds in which in his career, he has posted a .750 (3 for 4) average. I really like Gordon tonight as if Brayan Pena gets the start behind the plate, he is one of the worst throwing out runners as his CS% on the season is just 15.4 %. Gordon is hitting above .300 against RHP on the season and I think if he can get on base he’ll be able to have a great day picking us up multiple SB’s.
Shortstop – Andrelton Simmons – Atlanta Braves
There won’t be many nights in which I’m going to rely on Andrelton Simmons for his offensive however, as he will be at Coors Field on Thursday night against a weak pitcher in the right-handed Kyle Kendrick, I’m going to roll the dice with him tonight. Simmons is hitting .256 on the season with 3 homeruns and 29 RBI’s and has been solid against Kendrick, as in his career he has posted a .286 average with a homerun. Simmons has actually fared much better against RHP on the season as he is hitting .281 with all three of his homeruns against RHP compared to just a .132 average against LHP. Kendrick has really struggled on the season as he comes into this matchup with a 6.00 ERA and 1.45 WHIP and is allowing RHB to hit .280 against him. It’s a bit of reach to go with Simmons but I need to save some money at the SS position and as the matchup is solid, I’m hoping for a decent 4-6 point night from Simmons.
Third Base – Miguel Sano – Minnesota Twins
Miguel Sano has been everything that Twins were hoping he would be since calling the top-tier prospect up to the majors. In his first week, Sano is hitting .455 (10-22) with a homerun, 5 RBI’s and 6 walks. Sano will face his toughest challenge yet in Detroit’s David Price, however, Sano is a solid pick on Thursday as he has tremendous power. It’s a small sample size so all of Sano’s statistics look great at the moment, but David Price has given up 8 homeruns to RHB on the season and I’m hoping that Sano can make that number go up tonight.
Outfield – Kelly Johnson – Atlanta Braves
Kelly Johnson has come through me the few times I’ve taken him recently and I’m going to roll with him again as he will be playing at Coors Field tonight against the struggling Kyle Kendrick of the Colorado Rockies. Johnson is hitting .266 on the season and has 8 homeruns and 29 RBI’s. Johnson is batting .278 with two homeruns and 7 RBI’s over the past week and has had success against Kendrick as in his career, he is hitting .308 (8-26) with a homerun and 3 RBI’s against the right-hander. Kendrick has really had a tough time with LHB on the season as he is currently allowing LHB’s to have a .304 average and .941 OPS against him. Johnson’s price tag is a little higher than normal due to the fact he is in Colorado but he is still affordable and I think he’ll be able to lunch one into the thin Colorado air on Thursday night.
Outfield – Andre Ethier – Los Angeles Dodgers
Philadelphia is sending out another weak RHP so that means that I’m scooping up Andre Ethier of the Los Angeles Dodgers once again. Ethier is having a solid season as the right-fielder is currently hitting .276 with 10 homeruns and 29 RBI’s. Ethier has basically done all of his damage against RHP on the season and is hitting .385 over the past week. The Dodgers LHB’s will be another popular stack option on Thursday as Severino Gonzalez has been allowing LHB’s to have a .489 average and 1.218 OPS. I think the Dodgers are going to have a big night from the plate and as Ethier is quite affordable, he should be in most lineups tonight.
Outfield – Preston Tucker – Houston Astros
I’m going with Preston Tucker with my last outfield spot today as Tucker has been on an absolute tear as of late as he 8 hits in his last 13 AB’s. Tucker is hitting .263 with 5 homeruns and 21 RBI’s and is hitting .355 so far in the month of July. Tucker will be going up against Cody Anderson of the Cleveland Indians in which he has yet to face the righty in his young career. Anderson has been great in his three starts but I just have a feeling he is going to run into trouble with this Houston offensive lineup which is overdue for a big game. Tucker is hitting .286 against RHP on the season and I think he’ll be able to continue his hot streak and get us some quality FanDuel points on Thursday.
