Daily Fantasy Baseball – 7/20/15

Here is my lineup for tonight’s games. Please note that I’m using the salary cap based on FanDuel prices.

Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice – 7/20/15

Also, as this is written the day before/morning of the games, please check the lineups and weather to ensure you have all active players going tonight and that any pitching matchups mentioned below haven’t changed. Good Luck everyone!

Pitcher – Andrew Heaney – Los Angeles Angels

I think Andrew Heaney is showing great value at a price tag of just $7000 and although he is facing a Boston Red Sox team that has a strikeout rate of just 17.1% (2nd best in MLB), I think the potential for the price is just too much to pass up on Monday. Heaney has been a top-50 prospect for each of his last three seasons and although he struggled with his opportunity with the Marlins last year, he has been absolutely lights out in his four starts since being called up by the Angels.  On the season, Heaney is currently posing a 1.32 era, 0.84 WHIP while striking out 23 batters in 27.1 IP. Boston has struggled against LHP on the season as they currently are posting a .232 average (ranked 24th MLB) against lefties. Heaney is currently posting a 7.6 k/9 ratio and is holding opponents to just a .194 batting average. The Red Sox have really struggled offensively as of late as they haven’t been able to put a run up on the board since the All-Star break and I think Heaney will once again be able to shut them down on Monday night.

Catcher – John Jaso – Tampa Bay Rays

I’m going to continue to save money and go with John Jaso of the Tampa Bay Rays as my catcher today as the 6 year veteran has been great since returning from a wrist injury in early July. On the season, Jaso is currently hitting .353 (12-34) with a homerun and 4 RBI’s. Jaso is currently slugging .529 and has an impressive .954 OPS. Jaso has a solid matchup up against the right-handed David Buchanan who has really struggled in his rookie year as he is currently posting a 7.58 ERA and 1.85 WHIP. Buchanan is allowing LHB’s to have a .302 average against him while Jaso is posting a .379 average and 1.010 OPS against LHP. The Rays offensive is not great but if they are going to hit, this is one of the better matchups they are going to have and I’m hoping Jaso can be a big part of it.

First Base – Brandon Belt – San Francisco Giants

It was between Rizzo and Belt for me today, but I decided to continue to save money and go with the Giant’s Brandon Belt. Belt is having an average season and is currently posting a .273 average with 9 homeruns and 36 RBI’s. Belt has picked it up more as of late as he is hitting .319 in July and he has a great matchup against the Padres Ian Kennedy on Monday. In his career against the right-handed Kennedy, Belt has posted a .323 (10-31) average with two doubles, a triple, and two homeruns. It’s been a struggled for Kennedy on the season as he currently is posting a 4.91 ERA and has allowed a whopping 20 homeruns in just 84.1 IP. Belt is hitting .301 and has all 9 of his homeruns against RHP on the season and I’m hoping that he can continue his success against Kennedy tonight.

Second Base – Rougned Odor – Texas Rangers

Since being recalled to the majors, Rougned Odor has been outstanding for the Texas Rangers and as the rookie second baseman is hitting .429 over his past week, I’m going to get in my lineup for his first trip to Coors Field. Odor is only hitting .255 on the season with 5 homeruns and 26 RBI’s however, is hitting .362 in the months of June & July. Odor will be up against the left-handed Chris Rusin who although is posting a 3.98 ERA and 1.51 WHIP on the season. Rusin really struggled in the month of June as he has a 6.28 ERA in his 5 starts and has allowed opposing hitters to have a .291 average against him on the season. Although Odor has struggled a bit against LHP’s on the season, Rusin hasn’t been great against LHB’s on the season and with how Odor is swinging the bat, I’m going to go with him tonight.

Shortstop – Erick Aybar – Los Angeles Angels

I took Aybar the other night against the Red Sox which didn’t pay off as it was the 1-0 pitcher’s duel between Wade Miley and C.J. Wilson however, I’m rolling again with Aybar largely due to the fact that he is hitting 5th in the Angels order and should have some good opportunities against Steven Wright of the Boston Red Sox. On the season, Aybar is hitting .282 with 2 homeruns, 27 RBI’s and 6 SB. Aybar is hitting .391 in the month of July and is hitting .333 (1-3) against Wright in his career. Aybar is hitting .271 as a LHB on the season and .265 at home on the season.  Wright has been used both as a starter and reliever on the season and really hasn’t been overly impressive in either role. I think the Angels bats are going to have a big day against Wright and the Red Sox bullpen and I like Aybar being able to continue is solid July with a big game tonight.

Third Base – Kris Bryant – Chicago Cubs

Kris Bryant is having a solid rookie campaign with the Chicago Cubs as the slugging third baseman is currently hitting .263 with 12 homeruns and 51 RBI’s on the season. Bryant has struggled as of late as he is only hitting .200 in the month of July, however, Bryant is always an intriguing play due to his tremendous power. Bryant will be up against the right-handed Michael Lorenzen of the Cincinnati Reds in which in his career, Bryant is 1 for 2 with a double, RBI and a BB. Lorenzen has been solid against RHB’s on the season however, Bryant has actually been better against  RHP’s (.265 average) than LHP’s (.254 average). Bryant has been great against Cincinnati this season as he is currently hitting .360 (9-25) with 4 doubles against the Reds and I think he is going to snap out of his current cold streak against the Reds tonight.

Outfield – Mike Trout – Los Angeles Angels

There really doesn’t need to be much explanation on why I’m going with Mike Trout as if you can afford him, he is always one of the best plays in fantasy. Trout is once against having an MVP type season and is currently posting a .307 average with 27 homeruns, 56 RBI’s, and 9 SB. Trout has been lighting it up in July as he currently is hitting .333 with 7 homeruns this month and I feel he has a great matchup against an underwhelming Steven Wright of the Boston Red Sox tonight. Trout might be 0-3 lifetime against the knuckleballer however as Wright does have a tendency to give up the homerun, I like Trout’s chances to go deep tonight.

Outfield – Carlos Gonzalez – Colorado Rockies

Carlos Gonzalez got off to a slow start to his 2015 season as he might have been still recovering from various injuries that plagued him in 2014, however Gonzalez has picked it up as of late as he has hit .33 in July and is currently posting a .256 average with 13 homeruns and 36 RBI’s for the season. Gonzalez will be up against the right-handed Nick Martinez of the Texas Rangers who has really come back to earth of a solid start to his season and is currently has a 3.43 ERA and 1.37 WHIP. The majority of Gonzalez’s issues this season have come against LHP as he actually has a decent .281 average and .867 OPS against RHP on the season. Martinez has allowed 4 homeruns in his last two starts against Toronto and Baltimore and I can see him once against struggling tonight at Coors Field.

Outfield – Marlon Byrd – Cincinnati Reds

Marlon Byrd is currently hitting just .244 on the season but he has displayed his power as he has 15 homeruns and 33 RBI’s on the season. Byrd will be up against the left-handed Clayton Richard of the Chicago Cubs in which in his career he is hitting .375 (3-8) against. Richard has only made two starts for the Cubs this season and currently is posting a lack-luster 5.79 ERA and 2.04 WHIP. Richard has really struggled against RHB’s as he currently is allowing RHB’s to have a .367 (11-30) average and .991 OPS against him. Byrd has a .864 OPS against LHP on the season and is currently hitting .292 in July. I think Cincinnati is going to have no trouble against Richard tonight and I’m thinking Byrd is in a good spot to have a big game.
