Daily Fantasy Baseball – 7/25/15 (Late Games)
Here is my lineup for tonight’s games. Please note that I’m using the salary cap based on FanDuel prices.
USA TODAY Sports
Also, as this is written the day before/morning of the games, please check the lineups and weather to ensure you have all active players going tonight and that any pitching matchups mentioned below haven’t changed. Good Luck everyone!
Pitcher – Carlos Carrasco – Cleveland Indians
Although he is going up against Chris Sale tonight, I’m think Carlos Carrasco is a solid option in his matchup against the Chicago White Sox. Carrasco is having a solid season as he has posted a 3.94 ERA and 1.17 WHIP while striking out 128 batters in 114.1 IP. Carrasco is posting a 10.1 K/9 ratio and has a strikeout rate of 27.65% which ranked 8th in among qualified MLB starters. The White Sox currently are hitting .247 (ranked 22nd in MLB) and have scored just 264 runs (ranked 25th in MLB) against RHP on the season. Earlier in the season, Carrasco received a scared taking a comebacker to head that knocked him out of his game against the White Sox in the first inning, however, in his next start which was also against the White Sox, he pitched a solid 5 innings while giving up just 1 run while striking out 8. There are a lot of solid options for pitching tonight but as I want to take advantage of some of the quality hitting matchups out there, I think Carrasco is a solid pick tonight.
Catcher – Evan Gattis – Houston Astros
Evan Gattis is having a solid season with the Astros as although he is hitting just .249 on the season (just a .252 career hitter) he does have 16 homeruns and 57 RBI’s. Gattis has been seeing the ball well as of late as he is hitting .290 in July and has hit .318 with a homerun over the past week. Gattis has a solid matchup against the left-handed Danny Duffy in which in his career he has posted a .667 (2-3) average with a triple. Danny Duffy is having an average season as he has posted a 4.24 ERA and 1.47 WHIP on the season and is allowing RHB’s to have a .271 average and .790 OPS against him. Gattis has been great against the Kansas City Royals this season as he has posted a .417 average and 1.000 OPS so far in 2015. Gattis has tremendous power and I hope that he can continue his hot streak against the Royals on Saturday night.
First Base – Eric Hosmer – Kansas City Royals
Eric Hosmer is having a good season with the Royals as the 4-year veteran is currently hitting .304 with 9 homeruns and 49 RBI’s. Hosmer will be up against the right-handed Scott Feldman of the Houston Astros and although Hosmer hasn’t had much success against Feldman (2-16 lifetime), I’m not going to be scared off this matchup. Feldman comes into this matchup with a 4.93 ERA and 1.42 WHIP and is allowing LHB’s to have a .324 average against him on the season. Hosmer is having a monster July as he is currently is hitting .350 for the month and is hitting .500 (14-28) over the past week. Hosmer has a .325 average and .889 OPS against RHP’s on the season and for a price tag of just $2900, Hosmer is a great value play tonight.
Second Base – Brian Dozer – Minnesota Twins
I’m going with Brain Dozer tonight who is having another great season with the Twins as the second baseman is currently hitting .255 with 21 homeruns, 55 RBI’s, and 9 SB. I like Dozier’s matchup against a struggling CC Sabathia of the New York Yankees and Dozier has a .275 average and .887 OPS against LHP on the season. Sabathia is having a season to forget as he is currently posting a 5.25 ERA and 1.40 WHIP and is allowing RHB’s to have a .330 average and .919 OPS against him on the season. In his career against Sabathia, Dozier is currently hitting .400 (2-5) with a double and 2 BB. Dozier has collected at least 1 hit in 6 of his last 7 games and I think that he has a good shot to launch another homerun against the Yankees as he did last night.
Shortstop – Marwin Gonzalez – Houston Astros
I’m going with Marwin Gonzalez tonight as the Houston Astros shortstop has been recently getting starts at third-base and batting 2nd in the order against left-hand pitching. Gonzalez is currently hitting .262 with 7 homeruns and 22 RBI’s and is having a good July as he is hitting .359 (14-39) with 3 homeruns. Gonzalez has some limited experience against the left-handed Danny Duffy and in his career is hitting .500 (2 for 4) against him. Gonzalez is hitting .308 against LHP on the season and as I think the Astros will have a decent day against Duffy, I think Gonzalez is a good value pick for the $2700 price tag tonight.
Third Base – Todd Frazier – Cincinnati Reds
For the second straight night, I’m going to be spending the money to get Todd Frazier in my lineup tonight. On the season, Todd Frazier is currently hitting .279 with 26 homeruns and 64 RBI’s. Frazier will be up against the left-handed Chris Rusin of the Colorado Rockies in which he is 1 for 5 in career with the one hit being a homerun. Frazier has been an absolute monster against LHP on the season as he is hitting .286, slugging .692, and has a 1.012 OPS against lefties. Frazier has an incredible 10 homeruns in just 91 AB’s against LHP on the season. Rusin is allowing RHP to have a .295 average and .811 OPS against him on the season and with Frazier’s homeruns against LHP on the season, make him an easy choice at Coors Field on Saturday.
Outfield – Marlon Byrd – Cincinnati Reds
I’m going to stay with the Cincinnati Reds and once again get Marlon Byrd in my lineup tonight. Byrd is hitting .248 on the season but has 16 homeruns and 34 RBI’s on the season and similar to Frazier, has a great matchup against the left-handed Chris Rusin of the Rockies on Saturday night. In his career against Rusin, Byrd has posted a .500 (4-8) average. Byrd has been solid against LHP on the season as he currently is posting a .283 average and .918 OPS against the lefties. Byrd has a solid night last night at Coors Field going 1 for 3 with a triple, BB, and 2 runs scored and I feel that for a price tag of just $3100, Byrd is the best value pick on the board tonight.
Outfield – Michael Conforto – New York Mets
I have to conserve my money for my last two outfield spots tonight and going to take a chance of the Mets’ Michael Conforto who was just recently called up to the major leagues. Conforto went 0-3 with a RBI in his MLB debut last night, but is solid offensive player as in Double AA this season, Conforto was hitting .312 with 5 homeruns and 26 RBI’s in 45 games. Conforto will be up against the right-handed Zach Lee of the Los Angeles Dodgers who will be making his MLB debut tonight against the Mets. While in Double AA this season Conforto posted a solid .310 average and .884 OPS and although it’s hard to trust the Mets to get on base to give him some chances to get some RBI’s, I think Conforto will show today why he is the best hitting prospect in the Mets organization.
Outfield – Ryan Raburn – Cleveland Indians
Generally, I’ll stay away from any offensive that is going against Chris Sale of the Chicago White Sox, however, I only have $2200 in my budget and with the money I think Ryan Raburn is the best value for this price today. Ryan Raburn basically only gets starts against LHP, however, he generally bats in the middle of the order when he does which helps add to his value. On the season, Raburn is hitting .278 with 4 homeruns and 21 RBI’s. Outside of Carlos Santana, Raburn has actually had the most success against Sale in his career, as he is posted a .250 (7-28) average with 3 doubles and 2 homeruns.
