Daily Fantasy Baseball – 7/27/15
Here is my lineup for tonight’s games. Please note that I’m using the salary cap based on FanDuel prices.
USA TODAY Sports
Also, as this is written the day before/morning of the games, please check the lineups and weather to ensure you have all active players going tonight and that any pitching matchups mentioned below haven’t changed. Good Luck everyone!
Pitcher – Anibal Sanchez – Detroit Tigers
It’s somewhat of a weak night when it comes to pitching options tonight, however, I think Anibal Sanchez is the best option out there as he is facing a weak Tampa Bay Rays offensive on Monday night. Sanchez is having a below average season as he comes into tonight’s matchup with a 4.59 ERA and 1.23 WHIP while striking out 115 batters in 131.1 IP. Sanchez still has the arsenal to get some strikeouts as he currently has a 7.9 K/9 ratio and a strikeout rate of 21.06%. Sanchez has a great matchup tonight against the Rays as Tampa Bay currently is hitting just .237 (ranked 27th in MLB) and has the 4th highest strikeout total in MLB. Sanchez has been getting plenty of run support as of late as he has won 7 of his last 8 starts and although he has been prone to giving up homeruns this season, I think he’ll be handle the Rays offensive and get us around 15-18 points tonight.
Catcher – Brian McCann – New York Yankees
I had a hard time with the catcher’s position tonight and although he is facing a left-handed pitcher, I’ve decided to go with Brian McCann tonight. McCann has been struggling a bit in July, however has had a solid season with the Yankees as he hit 15 homeruns and driven in 58 RBI’s on the season. McCann will be up against the left-handed Matt Harrison in which in his career, he is posted a .333 (1-3) average with the one hit being a homerun. McCann is hitting just .250 on the season, but he does have 4 homeruns and 17 RBI’s in just 71 AB’s against LHP. Harrison pitched well against the Rockies in his latest start, however, this is still a pitcher is a shell of his former self and can easily be hit hard as the Diamondbacks did in his first start off the DL. The Yankees will be in Texas tonight which is a friendly place to hit and although McCann hasn’t had much success down in Texas before, I think he’ll be able to have a solid night against Harrison on Monday.
First Base – Mike Napoli – Boston Red Sox
If you’ve been following the Red Sox at all this season, you probably know how bad Mike Napoli has been, but at least hear me out on why I’m selecting him tonight. Napoli is hitting just .209 on the season with 11 homeruns and 35 RBI’s however, has been heating up as of late as he is hitting .400 with a homerun and 5 RBI’s over the past week. Napoli has always been a streaky hitter and when he gets it going, he can go on an absolute tear. Napoli has a decent matchup against the left-handed John Danks tonight in which he is 8 for 29 against lifetime. Danks has pitched great over his past two outings, however, I don’t expect these types of results to last as the veteran lefty still post a 4.66 ERA and 1.42 WHIP even with three shutout performances over his past four starts. Danks has been crushed by RHB’s on the season as he is allowing RHB’s to have a .315 average and .879 OPS against him. For the small price tag of just $2400, I think Napoli is a great value play tonight at Fenway Park.
Second Base – Kolten Wong – St. Louis Cardinals
Kolten Wong continues to be set at a very nice price range ($2900) and as the second baseman is hitting .412 (7-17) over his past four games, I’ll continue to put him in my lineup. Wong is having a nice season with the Cardinals as he is currently posting a .275 average with 10 homeruns and 38 RBI’s. Wong will be up against Raisel Iglesias of the Cincinnati Reds in which he went 1 for 1 with a BB against Iglesias in their earlier matchup on April 12th. Iglesias has been tough on RHB’s but has really struggled against LHB’s as he is allowing LHB’s to have a .364 average and .884 OPS against him on the season. Wong is currently hitting .290 and has 9 of his 10 homeruns against RHP. I always like going with a second baseman that has the power to get my team a homerun and with Wong up against a rookie RHP, he certainly has to potential to go deep tonight.
Shortstop – Xander Bogaerts – Boston Red Sox
Xander Bogaerts is coming up a solid 4-hit performance against the Tigers last night and as he is currently hitting .455 over the past week and .405 in the month of July, he is an easy choice for the $2700 it will cost you to have him on your team tonight. On the Bogaerts is hitting .317 with 3 homeruns and 47 RBI’s and has a great matchup against John Danks of the Chicago White Sox on Monday as in his career he is 4 for 6 with 3 RBI’s and 2 BB against the left-hander. As I mentioned with Napoli, Danks has really struggled against RHB’s on the season allowing them to have a .315 average against him. Bogaerts has been great against LHP on the season as his currently has a .379 average and .925 OPS against LHP. Bogaerts is hitting .350 at Fenway Park on the season and I don’t see any reason why he shouldn’t be able to have another big game tonight against the White Sox.
Third Base – Alex Rodriguez – New York Yankees
Alex Rodriguez has surprised many this year as the 20-year veteran is having a great comeback season with the Yankees as he is hitting .277 with 23 homeruns and 58 RBI’s. Rodriguez has looked like a younger version of himself recently as in the last week he is hitting .278 with 4 homeruns and 6 RBI’s including a monster 3 HR game against Minnesota this past Saturday. Rodriguez has a good match against the left-handed Matt Harrison of the Rangers as in his career he has posted a .417 (5-12) average and 1.083 OPS. In his career against the Rangers, Rodriguez has hit .306 with 19 homeruns. Rodriquez has a career .328 average and 98 homeruns at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington and I think he once again find success in Texas on Monday night.
Outfield – Charlie Blackmon – Colorado Rockies
Charlie Blackmon is one of the better 5-tool players in baseball currently and as he is has been red-hot in July, I’m going to have going on my squad tonight. On the season, Blackmon is hitting .293 with 12 homeruns, 44 RBI’s and 25 SB. In July alone, Blackmon is hitting .365 with 3 doubles, 2 triples, 2 homeruns, 10 RBI’s and 4 SB. Blackmon has a solid matchup against Kyle Hendricks of the Chicago Cubs as in his career he has a .500 (3-6) average against the right-hander. Hendricks has been solid on the season but has fared worse against LHB’s as he is allowing them to have a .264 average and .714 OPS against him. Against RHP, Blackmon has hit 11 of his 12 homeruns and stolen 22 of his 25 SB’s against RHP on the season. Blackmon is a great combination of speed and power, and with how the Colorado bats seem to be swinging well at the moment, I think Blackmon is worth the investment tonight.
Outfield – Mitch Moreland – Texas Rangers
Mitch Moreland has been a pleasant surprise of the Texas Rangers this season as the slugging first baseman currently is hitting .285 with 16 homeruns and 51 RBI’s. Moreland has been an absolute monster against RHP on the season as he is posting a .305 average and .942 OPS against righties. Moreland will be up against the right handed Ian Nova tonight, who although he hasn’t had much success against Nova in the past (1-13 lifetime), it doesn’t scare me away from this matchup. Nova has been good since returning from injury however, he is allowing LHB’s to have a .293 average and .821 OPS against him this season. Nova has only recorded 15 K’s in his 29.2 IP this season which makes me believe that he doesn’t have the same arsenal as he once did and I think Moreland and the other LHB’s of the Texas Rangers could have a nice night.
Outfield – Hanley Ramirez – Boston Red Sox
I’m going to put one more Red Sox RHB in my line up tonight and go with Hanley Ramirez in the hopes that John Danks will come back to earth and have a bad night at Fenway. Ramirez is only hitting .268 on the season however has hit 19 homeruns and 46 RBI’s and is hitting a little better of the last week as he has posted a .276 average. Ramirez has had success against the left-handed Danks as in his career he has a .400 (2-5) average with a double and homerun. Ramirez has been better at Fenway Park this season as he has posted a .280 average and .789 OPS and has Danks has struggled against RHB’s on the season, I can see Ramirez getting his 20th homerun with a bomb over the Green Monster on Monday night.
