Fantasy Baseball Update 8/3/15: Key Matchups Early This Week
Fantasy Baseball Daily Leagues: Sleeper Picks and Advice for Upcoming Matchups
August 3, 2015
It’s Monday, and around here that means it’s time for us fantasy baseball owners to start looking forward to the early-week matchups around the MLB. We’ve checked out the waiver wire and found a few interesting names out there, so let’s take a closer look at the numbers and see who might make a good addition to your roster right now.
Luis Severino, SP/RP, New York Yankees: Severino got the call this weekend, and he’ll be coming up to the big leagues to make his debut. He carries with him a lot of hype, as he’s the Yankees’ No. 1 prospect and has dominated along the way.
Severino will make his start on Wednesday against the Red Sox, and becomes immediately viable in most fantasy leagues.

Jung Ho Kang, 3B/SS, Pittsburgh Pirates: We’ve been on the Kang bandwagon for quite some time now, and he’s still owned in less than half of the leagues out there. On Friday and Saturday, he had four hits, three runs, a solo homer and two RBI. He came up empty yesterday, though.
Kang had a heck of a July, hitting .379 with 13 extra-base hits. He’ll get the Cubbies at home this week.
Ryan Howard, 1B, Philadelphia Phillies: The Phillies have been surging lately, and it’s much thanks to Howard. Heading into yesterday, he had a seven-game hit streak to his credit, with eight runs, two homers and a whopping 12 RBI in that span. He bagged a double among his two hits with a run yesterday.
Howard has been on point since the All-Star break, and he’s inching his way back into the fantasy discussion. He’ll be at home against the Dodgers tomorrow.
Aaron Hicks, OF, Minnesota Twins: Hicks has played well over the last week or two, and he’s getting lots of looks in fantasy because of it. Heading into yesterday’s game he’d hit in seven of eight, with eight runs, two homers and nine RBI in that frame. He whiffed yesterday, though.
Hicks is a great fantasy pickup at that level as long as he’s hitting high in the order like he has been. The Twins will hit the road this week, starting today in Toronto against the Blue Jays.
Colby Lewis, SP, Texas Rangers: Let’s finish up on the mound again today and take a look at Lewis. He’s 3-0 in his last three appearances, allowing just two earned in each outing.
Lewis has 11 wins to his credit, but we’d like to see him trim his 4.42 season ERA before we give him a glowing recommendation. Still, he’s not a bad play today at home against Houston.
