Daily Fantasy Baseball – 8/5/15 (Late Games)

Here is my lineup for tonight’s games. Please note that I’m using the salary cap based on FanDuel prices.

Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice – 8/5/15 (Late Games)

Also, as this is written the day before/morning of the games, please check the lineups and weather to ensure you have all active players going tonight and that any pitching matchups mentioned below haven’t changed. Good Luck everyone!

Pitcher – Taylor Jungmann – Milwaukee Brewers

Taylor Jungmann has had a great start to his MLB career as in his first 10 starts at the major league level, the rookie right-hander out of Texas is currently posting a 2.23 ERA and 1.10 WHIP while striking out 53 batters in 64.2 IP. Jungmann has yet to give up more than 2 ER’s in his last seven starts and I’m going to roll with him tonight as he has a solid matchup against the strikeout prone San Diego Padres. Jungmann currently is posting a solid 7.4 K/9 ratio and a strikeout percentage of 20.5%. San Diego is currently hitting only .243 (ranked 25th in MLB) and have the second highest strikeout total against RHP on the season. Jungmann is holding opposing hitters to a .218 average on the season and as this is the first time anyone of the Padres will be facing Jungmann, I can see him having a strong performance in which he goes at least 7 innings, picking up 6-9 K’s and getting us the win tonight.

Catcher – Salvador Perez – Kansas City Royals

Salvador Perez is hitting just .249 on the season but is always a decent option at the low price of $2200 as the 4-year veteran currently has 16 homeruns and 46 RBI’s. Perez had a nice night at the plate on Tuesday as he went 3 for 4 with a homerun and 3 RBI’s and as he is facing the left-handed Matt Boyd of the Detroit Tigers, I think there is a good chance he can repeat those numbers from last night. Boyd was recently acquired by Detroit in the David Price trade and in his two starts he has with Toronto, he was lit up as he currently posting a 14.85 ERA and 2.40 WHIP. Boyd has allowed 15 hits (5 homeruns) in just 6.2 IP as in those two games opposing batters hit .441 against him. Perez has actually had more success against RHP on the season, however, I think the value of this pick is too good to pass up.

First Base – Mark Teixeira – New York Yankees

As much as I was going to stack Kansas City hitters against Boyd, after watching the Yankees pound the Red Sox last night, I think I’m going to load my lineup with Yankees LHB’s against Steven Wright of the Boston Red Sox. Teixeira is having a great season with the Yankees as although he is batting just .268, he has posted 29 homeruns and 76 RBI’s on the season. Teixeira has some limited experience against the right-handed knuckleballer as in his career against Wright, Teixeira is 1 for 2 with a homerun. Wright comes into the matchup with a 4.53 ERA and 1.31 WHIP and has allowed 11 homeruns in just 59.2 IP. LHB’s have posted a .255 average and .701 OPS against Wright on the season. Teixeira is hitting .282 and has collected 23 of his 29 homeruns against RHP on the season. Teixeira is hitting .280 at Yankee Stadium this season and with that short right-field porch, I think could reach the 30 homerun mark tonight.

Second Base – Addison Russell – Chicago Cubs

Addison Russell is only hitting .238 on the season with 7 homeruns and 27 RBI’s but the top-tier rookie has been getting better at the plate recently as he is hitting .304 over the past week and is hitting .283 with a .755 OPS since the All-Star Break. Russell has solid matchup against the left-handed Jeff Locke of the Pittsburgh Pirates in which in his career has posted a .333 (2-6) average with 2 doubles and 2 RBI’s. Locke comes into this matchup with a 4.21 ERA and 1.42 WHIP and has gotten past the 5th inning in each of his last two starts. Locke is allowing LHB’s to post a .274 average and .711 OPS against him on the season. Locke has really struggled against the Cubs on the season as in his three starts against them, he has posted a 10.22 ERA as he has given up 14 ER’s on 21 hits and 9 walks in just 12.1 IP. Russell has struggled against LHP’s on the season, but with the success that the Cubs have had against Locke, I think Russell could have a good day at a very low price of just $2300.

Shortstop – Didi Gregorius – New York Yankees

I’m saving up for a monster outfield tonight, so I’m going to with Didi Gregorius as similar to many of my picks today, I like the LHB at Yankee Stadium against Steven Wright of the Boston Red Sox. Gregorius comes into this matchup with a .258 average with 5 homeruns and 32 RBIs. Gregorius has been solid since the All-Star Break as he is posted a .351 average and .837 OPS since the break. Gregorius has been much better on the season against RHP as he is hitting .279 with a .691 OPS compared to a .198 average and .562 OPS vs. LHP. Gregorius is 0-3 lifetime against Wright but as the Yankees have average just under 10 runs a game over the past week, I’m hoping the Gregorius can do some damage at the bottom of the Yankees line-up on Tuesday.

Third Base – Chase Headley – New York Yankees

Chase Headley is hitting .391 over the past week and is currently hitting .278 on the season with 9 homeruns and 44 RBI’s. Headley comes into Wednesday’s matchup on a 12 game hitting streak in which he has collected at least 2+ hits in 7 of the 12 games. Headley is hitting .280 on the season against RHP and is coming off his best month of the season in which he hit .370 in July. Headley, like many of the Yankees on my team tonight has had limited experience against the right-handed Wright as he in his career he is 0-1 with a walk. I’ve mentioned Wrights statistics in the Teixeira and Gregorius write-ups above, but what I also love about stacking the Yankees LHB’s tonight is that Wright generally doesn’t last more than 5 or 6 innings, and like last night, I think the Yankees will be able to tee-off on the Red Sox bullpen which is one of the weaker bullpens in the league.

Outfield – Bryce Harper – Washington Nationals

Bryce Harper disappointed me the other night when I shelled over the big bucks for him, however, I’m going with the slugging outfielder once against as he has a solid matchup against Rubby De La Rosa of the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday. Harper is having an MVP caliber season as he currently is hitting .330 with 29 homeruns and 68 RBI’s on the season. Harper has already faced the right-handed De La Rosa this season and was quite successful as he went 2 for 3 with a double and homerun. Harper has crushed RHP’s on the season to the tune of a .333 average and 1.150 OPS. De La Rosa has been up and down all year, however one of his glaring weaknesses is being able to keep the ball in the park as he has allowed 24 homeruns in 131.1 IP on the season. De La Rosa has also struggled against LHB’s as he allowing LHB’s to post a .311 average and .947 OPS against him on the season. Harper is hitting .333 over the last week with 2 homeruns and 4 RBI’s and I expect him to have a big game tonight.

Outfield – Ryan Braun – Milwaukee Brewers

I’m going with Ryan Braun tonight as the outfielder has been hot as of late and has a solid matchup against Ian Kennedy of the San Diego Padres on Tuesday night. Braun is hitting .273 with 19 homeruns, 63 RBI’s and 16 SB’s on the season and is hitting .348 over the past week and .500 (6-12) with 4 doubles in the month of August. Braun has had some success against the right-handed Kennedy as in his career he has posted a .286 average with a double and homerun. Kennedy has pitched better as of late after getting off to a rocky start to his season, however, Kennedy is still allowing RHB’s to post a .283 average and .873 OPS against him on the season. Similar to De La Rosa of the Diamondbacks, Kennedy has really struggled keeping the ball in the park on the season as he has allowed 23 homeruns in just 103.1 IP. Braun has a .314 average with 6 homeruns and 17 RBI’s against the Padres over the past three seasons and I expect him to continue his success against San Diego tonight.

Outfield – Jacoby Ellsbury – New York Yankees

With my last outfield pick of the night, I’m going to get my 4th Yankee LHB in my lineup against Steven Wright in the former Red Sox, Jacoby Ellsbury. Ellsbury is currently hitting .282 with 4 homeruns, 22 RBI’s, and 14 SB on the season. Ellsbury has been solid against RHP on the season as he has posted a .306 average and .786 OPS. Ellsbury has struggled in July however, he has generally been solid against his former club and currently in 2015 is hitting .341 (15-44) with a homerun and 3 RBI’s. Ellsbury is 1 for 3 against Steven Wright in his career, but seems to have success against knuckleballers as he has a career .350 (7-20) average against R.A. Dickey of the Toronto Blue Jays. Ellsbury has enough pop in his bat to get it over the short fence in right field at Yankee Stadium and as he can always be threat on the bases, makes him a solid play tonight against the Red Sox.
