Fantasy Baseball 2015: Weekend Sleepers 8/14
2015-08-13 11:00:00 EDT
We’re getting ready to head into another MLB summer weekend, so we fantasy baseball owners will want to be looking ahead to the upcoming matchups to try and gain an edge in those games. Let’s take a look at the waiver wire and see if there are any trending sleeper prospects who can help out those stats.
Bruce Rondon, RP, Detroit Tigers: Rondon burst onto the waiver wire scene yesterday following a one-inning save in Kansas City. It was his second save since August 8.
With all the turmoil in the Tigers bullpen, it’s looking like the team is going to be relying on Rondon, at least for the time being. He’ll get to show his stuff some more in Houston against the Astros starting today.
Danny Valencia, 1B/3B/OF, Oakland Athletics: Also gaining some notoriety this week is Valencia, who carried a six-game hit streak into yesterday’s finale against the Blue Jays. In that span, he produced four runs, three homers and seven RBI. He came up empty yesterday, though.
Valencia apparently really likes it in Oakland, as he’s been red hot since joining up with the A’s. He’ll head to Baltimore today.
Robbie Ray, SP, Arizona Diamondbacks: Ray’s had a run of bad luck lately. He hasn’t posted a win since July 7 and has allowed four earned in two of his five starts since then.
All of that said, Ray’s actually not a bad option as a sleeper pickup. He’s coming off a quality start against the Reds and will go into a pretty favorable matchup in Atlanta today. He’s a bargain.
Martin Perez, SP, Texas Rangers: Perez is available in just about every fantasy league out there right now and looks like a pretty good pickup. He’s coming off six innings of two-earned ball in a no-decision in Seattle.
Perez has allowed just three earned over 14.1 innings in his last two starts. He’ll take his season-long 5.81 ERA and 1.44 WHIP into a home game against the Rays today.

Aaron Hicks, OF, Minnesota Twins: We’ll finish up with Hicks, who got some major attention on Wednesday with a 4-for-5 outing against the Rangers that produced four runs, a homer and two RBI. He had a hit and an RBI yesterday.
Hicks has been hitting pretty consistently lately, and actually offers a pretty decent power-speed combo for a player at his fantasy level. He’ll get the incoming Indians this weekend.
