Daily Fantasy Baseball – 8/15/15 (Late Games)

Here is my lineup for tonight’s games. Please note that I’m using the salary cap based on FanDuel prices.

Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice – 8/16/15

Also, as this is written the day before/morning of the games, please check the lineups and weather to ensure you have all active players going tonight and that any pitching matchups mentioned below haven’t changed. Good Luck everyone!

Pitcher – Chris Sale – Chicago White Sox

You know there is a lot of good pitchers on the mound on Sunday when there is three pitchers that cost more than Chris Sale available. Although Sale hasn’t been his dominant self as of late, I’m still going with the left-hander as I like his matchup against the free swinging Chicago Cubs. On the season, Sale is posting a 3.47 ERA and 1.07 WHIP and has 193 strikeouts in 150.1 IP. Sale has been a monster when it comes to strikeouts this season as he has posted a 11.6 K/9 ratio and has a strikeout percentage of 31.69% which ranks 2nd in MLB among qualified starters. Sale will be facing a Chicago Cubs team that has been hot as of late, however, lead all of MLB in total strikeouts (1049) and strikeout percentage (23.9%). In his limited experience against the Cubs current roster, Sale is holding Cubs hitters to a .207 (6-29) average. There are a lot of good pitchers that you can choose from today, but I’m going to put my money with Sale as I think he has the highest upside with the possibility of getting 10+ K’s and a win.

Catcher – Yasmani Grandal – Los Angeles Dodgers

I’m going with Yasmani Grandal today as the Dodgers catcher is set at a reasonable price of just $3000 and is generally a safe pick when he is going up against a RHP. Grandal has been a nice surprise for the Los Angeles Dodgers this season as Grandal is hitting .281 with 15 homeruns and 44 RBI’s on the season. Grandal will be up against the right-handed Anthony DeSclafani of the Cincinnati Reds in which although he hasn’t faced before in his career, has a .894 OPS against RHP on the season. DeSclafani has been solid away from his home field (Great American Ballpark) this season, however he is allowing LHB’s to have a .795 OPS against him on the season. Grandal should be in the line-up today as he got the day off yesterday and with ability to hit the homerun, has good value today against an average pitcher in DeSclafani.

First Base – Adam Lind – Milwaukee Brewers

In my opinion, I would say that for the value, Adam Lind is almost a must start today. Lind is hitting .280 on the season with 17 homeruns and 66 RBI’s and has an outstanding matchup against the right-handed Aaron Harang of the Philadelphia Phillies this afternoon. On the season, Lind has a .296 average and .904 OPS against RHP while all 17 of his HR’s have come against righties. Lind has had great success against Harang in his career as he has posted a .667 average (4-6) with 3 of those 4 hits being homeruns. Harang is allowing LHB’s to post a .287 average and .810 OPS against him on the season and as struggled as of late allowing 8 ERs in two of his last four starts. I find it hard to believe that there are 18 first baseman priced higher than Lind today and with his pass success against RHP and Harang, he will be on all my teams today.

Second Base – Jonathan Schoop – Baltimore Orioles

Jonathan Schoop has been playing some great baseball since returning the Orioles line up in early July as the young second baseman is hitting .296 with 8 homeruns and 22 RBI’s in just 42 games played on the season. Schoop has had a monster August hitting at a .378 mark while collecting 4 doubles a homerun and 7 RBI’s. Schoop will be up against the right-handed Kendall Graveman of the Oakland Athletics on Sunday in which in his career he is 1 for 1 against with a double. Graveman has actually struggled more against RHB’s on the season allowing RHB’s to post a .276 average and .781 OPS against him on the season. Schoop has been crushing RHP all season posting a .326 average and .961 OPS and as Schoop has shown does he does have power to hit the homerun, he is a good option at second base this afternoon.

Shortstop – Xander Bogaerts – Boston Red Sox

Has anyone seen what the Red Sox offensive has done over the last two days? The Red Sox’s bats are absolutely on fire at the moment and with Xander Bogaerts going up against the left-handed Vidal Nuno of the Seattle Mariners, I think he is almost a must start tonight. Bogaerts is having a great season with the Red Sox as he is hitting .315 with 3 homeruns and 56 RBI’s. Bogaerts is hitting .333 in the month of August and .360 over the past week including a solid 4 for 7 performance on Sunday. Bogaerts has been great against LHP on the season as he is currently is posting a .383 average and .910 OPS against lefties. Nuno has pitched well in his limited action this season, however, he certainly is hittable in this matchup against the Red Sox. Bogaerts is hitting around .400 with RISP this season and although we would like to see a little more power out of the Red Sox shortstop, he is a great play today.

Third Base – Giovanny Urshela – Cleveland Indians

I need an affordable option at third base today and I’m going to roll the dice with Giovanny Urshela of the Cleveland Indians today. Urshela is hitting just .237 on the season with 5 homeruns and 15 RBI’s however, I do like his matchup against the left-handed Tommy Milone of the Minnesota Twins on Sunday. Urshela has yet to face Milone in his career however, has fared well against LHP on the season posting a .319 average and .794 OPS. Milone has pitched since late July due to a flexor strain, but struggled in his recent starts giving up at least 4 ER’s in his past three starts. Milone has struggled a bit giving up the homerun ball as he has allowed 14 homeruns in just 81.1 IP. Urshela is certainly reach today, but he does have a little power in his bat and as he has success against LHP, we could do a lot worse with our other options at $2200 at the position today.

Outfield – Mookie Betts – Boston Red Sox

Mookie Betts had to sit out a bit last week due to a tough fall over the bullpen wall about two weeks ago, but has shown no-ill effects from the injury as since his return, he is hitting .381 with a double, triple, 5 RBI’s and a couple of SB’s. Betts has been great for the Red Sox this season hitting .271 with 10 homeruns, 53 RBI’s and 15 SB. Betts will be up against the left-handed Vidal Nuno of the Seattle Mariners on Sunday in which he has yet to face in his career. Mookie has fared well at Fenway Park this season as he is posting a .293 average and .828 OPS. Betts has a solid combination of good speed and some decent power, and as he table-setter at the top of a red hot Red Sox lineup, is a solid play this afternoon.

Outfield – Brett Gardner – New York Yankees

Brett Gardner is having another good season for the Yankees as the left fielder is hitting .284 on the season with 11 homeruns, 52 RBI’s, and 16 SB’s. The Yankees offense has started to pick up again after struggling for the majority of last week and I like Gardner today as he has a good matchup against the right-handed Drew Hutchison of the Toronto Blue Jays. In his career against Drew Hutchison, Gardner is hitting just .250 (5-20) with three of those 5 hits being homeruns. Gardner has posted a .286 average and .817 OPS while getting all 16 of his stolen bases against RHP on the season. Hutchison comes into this matchup with an 11-2 record, but don’t be fooled as the right-hander is posting a 5.26 ERA and 1.48 WHIP on the season. Hutchison is allowing opposing hitters to have a .293 average against him on the season. Over the last three seasons, Gardner is hitting .327 at the Rodgers Centre over his past three seasons and as he has a solid speed/power combination, he has great value with a cost of just $3500.

Outfield – Jackie Bradley Jr. – Boston Red Sox

What a week for Jackie Bradley Jr. as the talented defensive outfielder has exploded offensively over the past week and has forced the Red Sox to keep him in the lineup even with the return of Mookie Betts from his injury. Jackie Bradley Jr. had one of the better fantasy days of the season yesterday, going 5 for 7 with 2 homeruns, 3 doubles, 7 RBI’s and 5 runs scored for a total of 25.75 FanDuel points. Obviously, we can’t expect that type of production ever again, however Bradley Jr. has been productive over the past week as he has collected at least 5 fantasy points in 4 of his last 5 games. Bradley Jr. is hitting an incredible .591 (13-22) with 4 doubles, 2 triples, 3 homeruns and 13 RBI’s over the past week and although I know he is only a .204 career hitter, I’m going to hope to ride the hot hand continues for one more day.
