Fantasy Football 2015: Week 1 Sleeper Picks
Taking a Look at the Week 1 Sleeper Pickups in Fantasy
September 11, 2015
Week 1 in the NFL’s 2015 season is already underway, and we’ve got more games coming in just a couple of days. That means we fantasy owners have to be extra diligent about our opening matchups, so with that in mind let’s check out some of the potential waiver- and bench-level sleeper options out there that you might want to take a look at this week.
Duke Johnson, RB, Cleveland Browns: Normally, we don’t recommend any running backs against the Jets defense, but things are different in 2015. The run-stopping unit has been hit by injury and suspension, and probably won’t come out of the gate strong.
That means Johnson and the other Browns running backs should do well here. Johnson himself is coming off a concussion, but seems to be fully healthy now. He’s got big-play ability when he’s 100 percent.

Ryan Mathews, RB, Philadelphia Eagles: The shadow of DeMarco Murray looms large in Philly, but even so Mathews is a popular sleeper choice. He’s got a good matchup in the opener against the Falcons, so expect a lot of opportunities for the Philly trio of runners in this one.
Even if he’s just spelling Murray, Mathews should rack up the carries.
Carson Palmer, QB, Arizona Cardinals: Remember when Palmer played in 2014? If you don’t, suffice to say he played very well. The old guy is back to 100 percent now and looking to replicate those early numbers.
Palmer should get off to a good start against the Saints, who aren’t very good against the pass. Expect him to go back and forth with Drew Brees.
Kendall Wright, WR, Tennessee Titans: Wright is another guy who a lot of people are tagging for a breakout season. He’ll get his start on Sunday versus the Buccaneers.
Judging by the preseason, Wright has built some nice chemistry with rookie QB Marcus Mariota, and the two will have a soft landing in Week 1 against the relatively weak Bucs secondary.
Stevie Johnson, WR, San Diego Chargers: Let’s throw one more WR out there before we call it quits for today. Fantasy owners will want to look a little further down the line of Chargers receivers now, since Antonio Gates is on the shelf with a suspension.
That brings us to Johnson, who showed some real flashes of brilliance in Buffalo and will be much underestimated on the west coast. Look for a lot of completions underneath in this first game against the Lions.
