Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice – 9/12/2015 (Late Games)
MLB Picks for your MLB Daily Fantasy Leagues
September 12th, 2015
Here is my lineup for tonight’s games. Please note that I’m using the salary cap based on FanDuel prices.
Also, as this is written the day before/morning of the games, please check the lineups and weather to ensure you have all active players going tonight and that any pitching matchups mentioned below haven’t changed. Good Luck everyone!
USA TODAY Sports
Pitcher – Lance McCullers – Houston Astros
Lance McCullers has been a great addition to the Astros starting pitching staff and with Scott Feldman being ruled out for the year, Houston will be relying on their rookie right-hander. Outside of one bad start against the Rangers in early August, McCullers has had an outstanding season posting a 3.07 ERA and 1.18 WHIP while striking out 101 batters in 96.2 IP. McCullers currently has a 9.4 K/9 ratio and has a decent matchup against the Los Angeles Angels in which he has a 1.38 ERA against them in two starts this season. The Angels are only hitting .249 against RHP on the season (ranked 22nd in MLB) and although they don’t strikeout too often, McCullers has been able to register 11 K’s in 13 IP against the Angels this season. With the way McCullers has pitched this season, it’s still a bit of mystery why he is still valued so low on FanDuel, but at price of just $6700, he is a great play on Sunday.
Catcher – Travis D’Arnaud – New York Mets
Travis D’Arnaud has had to battle some injuries this season but when healthy, has been a great player for the Mets this season as the catcher is currently hitting .286 with 11 HR’s and 37 RBI’s. D’Arnaud has been hot as of late as over the past week, the right-handed hitting D’Arnaud is posting a .368 (7-19) average with 2 HR’s and 6 RBI’s. D’Arnaud has a good matchup against Williams Perez of the Atlanta Braves who currently is posting a 5.42 ERA and 1.57 WHIP. Perez has really struggled as of late as over his past 8 starts he has posted an 8.37 ERA compared to a 2.88 ERA in his first 8 starts. Perez is allowing opponents to post a .289 average and .809 OPS against him on the season. In his career against Perez, D’Arnaud is 2 for 3 with a HR and 3 RBI’s. D’Arnaud has is hitting .308 on the road this season and .300 at Turner Field and has a good shot to have a nice game on Saturday night.
First Base – Anthony Rizzo – Chicago Cubs
Anthony Rizzo is currently hitting .282 on the season with 29 HR’s and 88 RBI’s on the season and has been good as of late as he is hitting .333 (7-21) with 2 HR’s and 9 RBI’s over the past week. Rizzo will be going up against the right-handed Jerad Eickhoff of the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday who comes into the contest with a 4.70 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in his 4 starts this season. Eichoff had a great first start of his career giving no runs in 6 IP against the Marlins but has given up at least 3 ER’s in each of his last three starts. Eickhoff has really struggled against LHB’s as he is allowing LHB’s to post a .371 average, .771 slugging percentage, and a 1.182 OPS. Rizzo is hitting for a better average against LHP this season but still has an impressive .552 slugging percentage and .934 OPS against righties. Rizzo has a .300 average on the road this season and I’m hoping he can have a nice game at Citizens Bank Park on Saturday.
Second Base – Dee Gordon – Miami Marlins
Dee Gordon has been everything the Marlins could have hoped for when they signed him in the offseason as the speedy second baseman is currently hitting .328 with 2 HR’s, 36 RBI’s and 50 SB on the season. Gordon has been able to keep his batting average above .300 throughout the season and is currently hitting .333 (8-24) with 3 SB’s over the past week. Gordon will be up against the right-handed Tanner Roark of the Washington Nationals on Saturday who enters the contest with a 4.41 ERA and 1.33 WHIP on the season. Roark has mostly been used coming out of the bullpen this season and has struggled a bit against LHB’s allowing LHB’s to post a .292 average and .864 OPS. Gordon has posted a .323 average and has 38 of his 50 SB’s against RHP on the season. Roark is more of a pitch-to-contact type pitcher and with Gordon’s speed, I can see him having a multi-hit game with hopefully a SB or two.
Shortstop – Carlos Correa – Houston Astros
Carlos Correa has been everything as advertised for the Astros this season since being called up and is currently posting a .275 average with 17 HR’s, 51 RBI’s and 12 SB’s in 78 games this season. Correa has struggled a bit in September but as he had fared well against LHP’s on the season, I like his matchup against the left-handed Hector Santiago of the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday. Santiago is currently posting a 3.24 ERA and 1.23 WHIP but has given up 5 ERs in two of his last three starts. Santiago has had a nice season holding opposing hitters to just a .224 average however, he has had some trouble with the HR ball as he has allowed 20 HR’s to RHB’s on the season. Against LHP, Correa has posted a .300 average and .934 OPS. Correa is hitting .346 (9-26) against the Angels on the season and I expect him to continue this success on Saturday night.
Third Base – Nolan Arenado – Colorado Rockies
Nolon Arenado has been outstanding as of late as over the past week, Arenado is hitting .346 (9-26) with 4 HR’s and 6 RBI’s. On the season, Arenado is hitting .288 with 38 HR’s and 108 RBI’s and I’m going with the slugging third baseman tonight as I like his matchup against the left-handed Roenis Elias of the Seattle Mariners. Elias comes into the matchup with a 4.30 ERA and 1.28 WHIP on the season and hasn’t been really anything more than an average MLB pitcher this season. Ellis is allowing opposing hitters to post a .726 OPS against him and has given up 11 of his 12 HR to RHB’s on the season. Over the past two seasons Arenado has posted a solid .304 average and .904 OPS against LHP. Arenado is hitting only .256 on the road this season but does have 20 HR’s away from Coors Field and as he is swinging a real hot bat as of late, I’m ok with spending the money to get him on my team on Saturday night.
Outfield – Curtis Granderson – New York Mets
Curtis Granderson is hitting just .259 on the season which isn’t a huge surprise as he is just a .257 career hitter, but Granderson has done a nice job hitting at the top of Mets lineup as he does have .362 OBP and has posted 23 HR’s and 61 RBI’s on the season. Granderson has a nice matchup against the right-handed Williams Perez of the Atlanta Braves in which I mentioned under Travis D’Arnaud’s write-up, has really struggled as of late and is posting a 5.42 ERA and 1.57 WHIP on the season. In his career against Perez, Granderson is 2 for 3 with a solo HR. Granderson has been much better against RHP’s on the season as against righties, Granderson has posted a .286 average, .520 slugging percentage and .909 OPS. Granderson has hit 22 of his 23 HR’s against RHP on the season. Granderson is hitting .284 since the All-Star break and with the Mets scoring lots of runs lately, I like Granderson and this matchup on Saturday.
Outfield – Avisail Garcia – Chicago White Sox
Garcia has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball over the past week as the White Sox right-fielder is hitting .435 (10-23) with 2 doubles, a triple and 3 RBI’s. On the season, Garcia is hitting .270 with 12 HR’s, 56 RBI’s and 7 SB. Garcia has a good matchup against the left-handed Tommy Milone of the Minnesota Twins who comes into the matchup with a 3.54 ERA and 1.21 WHIP. Milone has had a solid season but certainly has a hittable arsenal and is allowing RHB’s to post a .266 ERA and .764 OPS. In his career against Milone, Garcia has posted a solid .417 (5-12) average with a double. Garcia has fared well against LHP’s on the season as he has posted a .298 average and .757 OPS. Garcia is hitting .333 so far in the month of September and also has a .333 (16-48) average with a HR and 7 RBI’s against the Twins on the season.
Outfield – Andre Ethier – Los Angeles Dodgers
Andre Ethier is having a good season with the Dodgers as the right-fielder is hitting .293 with 13 HR’s and 43 RBI’s on the season. Ethier is only hitting .222 so far in the month of September but has been better over the past week as he has posted a .286 (4-14) average with 2 doubles. Ethier will be up against the hard-throwing righty in the Arizona Diamondbacks Rubby Be La Rosa who is currently posting 4.49 ERA and 1.31 WHIP on the season. De La Rosa has had an up and down season but has generally struggled against LHB’s as he is allowing LHB’s to post a .308 average and .927 OPS. De La Rosa has given up 29 HR’s on the season with 18 of them coming against LHB’s. In his career against De La Rosa, Ethier has posted a .571 (4-7) average with a HR and 4 RBI’s. Ethier should get the start against the right-handed De La Rosa on Saturday and for a price tag of just $2200, he has great value on Saturday night.
