Fantasy Baseball Update 6/20/16: Key Matchups Early This Week
2016-06-19 11:00:00 EDT
We fantasy baseball owners are always checking the waiver wire for new acquisitions, and today is a great time to do so. The big early-week matchups are looming in the MLB, so let’s take a look at a few trending names out there to see if anyone’s worth picking up before the new series get started.
Didi Gregorius, SS, New York Yankees: Let’s kick things off at shortstop today and check out Gregorius. Although he came up empty yesterday, he came into this week with a five-game hit streak, during which he logged six runs, two homers and nine RBI.
On the season, Gregorius has logged a nice .287 BA with six homers and 30 RBI. In spite of that, he’s still available in almost 90 percent of fantasy leagues out there heading into a short Rockies series tomorrow.
Jonathan Schoop, 2B, Baltimore Orioles: Let’s stick with middle infielders and go see Schoop. Over his past two games, he’s got six hits with five runs, two homers and four RBI to his credit.
That gives Schoop a .272 average with 11 homers and 38 RBI so far this year. He’s been on a nice run lately and will be heading to Texas today before going back home to host the Padres.
Jake Lamb, 3B, Arizona Diamondbacks: Over at the hot corner, Lamb is making a name for himself within the past few days. He’s got a three-game hit streak going, with seven hits, two runs, a solo homer and three RBI in that span.
Lamb is hitting .276 this year with 13 home runs and 41 RBI. It’s a little surprising he’s still available in over 50 percent of leagues still. Lamb and the D-Backs finish with the Phillies today before heading to Toronto.
Jorge De La Rosa, SP, Colorado Rockies: Moving on to the mound, we’ve got an interesting play today in De La Rosa. He’ll be going up against the Marlins in Miami, and is available in just about every league out there.
De La Rosa is coming off five shutout innings against the Yankees in his last appearance, and even though he was shaky before that he’s a decent deep-league play.

James Paxton, SP, Seattle Mariners: We’ll finish up today’s installment with Paxton. He’s coming off a six-inning win against the Rays, striking out five in the process.
On the year, Paxton has a 2.86 ERA with a 1.55 WHIP on the year. He’ll head to Detroit tomorrow and try to get his second win of the year. He’s still available in over 60 percent of leagues out there.
