Fantasy Football Update 9/8/16: Week 1 Waiver Wire Picks
Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Picks for Week 1
September 8, 2016
It’s finally here. Week 1 in the NFL begins tonight, and that means it’s time to hit the fantasy football waiver wire for a few last-minute additions to your team. Let’s check out some of the trending players out there and see who might make a good add for the first game of the season.
James White, RB, New England Patriots: White is one of the most-added fantasy players out there this week, and for good reason. He’s in a great situation, taking over the pass-catching role from the injured Dion Lewis, and PPR owners should take note here, as QB Jimmy Garappolo will be needing a solid check-down guy.

White gets a pretty tough matchup against Arizona right out of the gate, but things will ease up after the first few weeks of the season. He’s a very nice add right now heading into Week 1.
Justin Forsett, RB, Baltimore Ravens: The situation with Forsett was somewhat bizarre, as the Ravens cut him over the weekend and then re-signed him this week. Whatever the case, he’s now expected to remain the team’s starting running back, and that means lots of touches in fantasy leagues.
All of that said, Forsett will still likely share the load with Terrance West, so you should temper expectations slightly. Even so, he’s a nice pickup off the waiver wire and a secure-sounding name at the very least.
Tajae Sharpe, WR, Tennessee Titans: It’s been a very positive preseason for Sharpe, who is being tagged as a fantasy breakout by many pundits out there. He was able to grab nine of his 12 targets in the preseason for 163 yards, and is earning the praises of his QB Marcus Mariota.
Sharpe is an intriguing rookie and a great pickup if you’re looking for a lottery ticket with huge upside. He’s still out there in about 55 percent of leagues, so come kick the tires here.
Jesse James, TE, Pittsburgh Steelers: With the always-reliable Heath Miller gone in retirement this year, there’s a big hole at TE in Pittsburgh. Enter James, who is creating quite a bit of buzz on the waiver wire.
If James can get into a bit of a rhythm with QB Ben Roethlisberger this weekend against the Redskins, we could see the beginning of some nice chemistry. James will likely be touchdown-dependent, but in a lot of deeper leagues that’s all you can ask for in a low-end TE.
Rob Kelley, RB, Washington Redskins: Let’s go RB one more time and check out the aforementioned Redskins’ Kelley. Sources close to the team believe he’s earned some significant playing time behind Matt Jones following his breakout preseason.
Kelley snagged 38 carries for 198 yards in the preseason, and seems like he’s pushed the timeshare in Washington a little closer to 50-50. He’s a nice grab off the waiver wire in deeper fantasy leagues right now.
