4/17/18 – Daily Fantasy Baseball – FanDuel
Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports
Corey Kluber (Cleveland - $11,400) – If you spend up today, you might as well go right to the top as Corey Kluber has a great matchup against the Minnesota Twins. Kluber comes into this matchup with an impressive 1.57 ERA and 0.65 WHIP while sporting a 10.57 K/9 ratio. In his only start against Minnesota last season, Kluber posted an impressive 7.0 IP, 0 ER, 13K stat line. The ball park in Puerto Rico is not the greatest pitchers ball park, however, as the Twins rank just 27th in Strikeout Rate and Kluber has yet to not post a quality start this season, I think he is worth the money tonight.
Also Considered: Masahiro Tanaka
Mike Foltynewicz (Atlanta - $7,400) – For more a value option so you can load up on some hitter, I would look into taking a chance on Atlanta’s Mike Foltynewicz. Foltynewicz has yet to post a quality start on the season, however, he does come into this matchup with just a 2.93 ERA. Foltynewicz has the arsenal to pile up some strikeouts with his 10.57 K/9 ratio and as the Phillies rank just 25th in MLB in Strikeout Rate, I think Foltynewicz has some great risk/reward tonight.
Josh Bell (Pittsburgh - $3,700) – Josh Bell has yet to face Chad Bettis in his career, however, Bell has had a nice start to his season posting a .286 avg, .749 opg, 1 HR, 10 RBI, and has even shown a little more patience at the play with 7 BB. Bettis has been hit hard by the current Pittsburgh line up as he in 41 total AB’s he is allowing the current Pirates hitters to hit .366 and post a .946 ops. Bell also has been much better swinging as a lefty this season as a LHB, Bell has posted a .294 avg, with a HR and 9 RBI’s.
Marwin Gonzalez (Houston - $2800) – Marwin Gonzalez has gotten off to a slow start to his season, however, I think the switch-hitter is poised for a breakout night soon and has a good chance to find some success against Seattle’s Ariel Miranda, who is making his first start of the season tonight. Gonzalez has a HR in 10 AB’s against Miranda in his career and as I think the Houston bats are due for a big game, I think Gonzalez has some solid potential if he is hitting in the 7-hole as he has been as of late.
Also Considered: Ryan Zimmerman
Robinson Cano (Seattle - $3,900) – If you decide to spend some money at the 2B position tonight, I would take a good look at Robinson Cano who comes into this game with an impressive .375 avg and 1.012 OPS this season. Cano has yet to hit a HR on the season, but the conditions will be solid tonight at Safeco Field with the wind blowing straight out and Cano has a matchup up with Lance McCullers in which he has posted a career .364 avg against. McCullers has been a bit shaky to start this season while also allowing 2 HR’s so far this season, and as it’s only a matter of time Cano puts one in the cheap seats, I think going with Cano is a solid choice tonight.
Jonathan Villar (Milwaukee - $2800) – Jonathan Villar has an average start to his season, however, with his ability to hit a HR and also be a terror on the base paths, Villar is also a good option while his price sits below $3,000. Villar is hitting .280 on the season with a HR, 6 RBI’s, and 3 SB’s and has a great matchup against the right-hander, Sal Romano of Cincinnati tonight. Villar is 2-3 lifetime with a double and BB against Romano and is currently hitting .316 against RHP this season. Romano has already given up 3 HR’s this season and with the wind blowing out to right-center in the hitting friendly Miller Park, I think Villar is the best option at 2B tonight.
Corey Seager (Los Angele Dodgers - $3,600) – Corey Seager has gotten up to a slow start this season as the star shortstop has just a .200 batting avg with 1 HR and 6 RBI’s to start the season, however, has a good-looking matchup against the right-handed Bryan Mitchell who comes into this matchup with a 5.27 ERA and 2.12 WHIP in his 3 starts of the season. Seager is too good of a hitter not to breakout of his early season slump soon and as Seager showed success against Mitchell in their only previous matchup, going 1-2 with a 2B and BB, I think tonight could be the night we see some fireworks from the talented shortstop.
Aledmys Diaz (Milwaukee - $2,600) – Aledmys Diaz has gotten off to a nice start with Toronto this season as although he is hitting jus t.237, Diaz has shown some pop in his bat as he has already hit 4 HR’s on the season. Diaz hasn’t looked great in limited opportunities this season against LHP however, Diaz has had some nice success against Danny Duffy in the past as in his 3 AB’s against the left-hander, Diaz is 2-3 with 2 doubles.
Matt Chapman (Oakland - $4,200) – It was only going to be so long until I touched base on Oakland’s matchup against Miguel Gonzalez and it’s starts with Oakland’s slugging 3rd baseman, Matt Chapman. Gonzalez has shown some success against Oakland in his past, however, Gonzalez has been rocked in his first two starts of the season and comes into this matchup with a 8.68 ERA while giving up 3 HR’s in just 9.3 IP. Chapman has been on a tear to start his 2018 season as the slugging 3rd baseman comes into this matchup with a .333 avg, 1.053 OPS, 5 HR, and 12 RBI’s. Chapman is hitting an impressive .318 against RHP this season and is 1-2 lifetime against Gonzalez with a HR.
David Freese (Milwaukee - $2,400) – You’ll have to make sure that Freese gets the start tonight, but if you do, I think he is a good value option at the hot corner tonight. Freese is hitting just .263 on 19 AB’s on the season, however, has shown he still has some pop in his bat as he comes into this matchup with 2 HR’s on the season. Freese, like many of the current Pirates, have had success against Colorado’s Chad Bettis in the past and Freese comes into this matchup with a .375 (3-8) avg with a HR and 4 RBI’s against Bettis in his career. With the wind blowing out at good towards left-center tonight at PNC Park, this is a solid matchup I would target.
Bryce Harper (Washington - $5,200) – I know, I know…..this one is not going out on a limb. It’s just hard to ignore the fact that if Harper, who is tearing the cover of off the baseball at the moment, can hit a HR with a broken bat off DeGrom, I don’t want to imagine what he can do to Zack Wheeler tonight with wind blowing out to right-center at Citi Field. Harper is hitting .361 against RHP this season and although he hasn’t had much success against Wheeler in the past, I think tonight is going to be another story.
George Springer (Houston - $4,400) – George Springer hasn’t gotten off to the start many of us expected, but it’s only a matter of time until Houston’s leadoff man gets it rolling and improves his .203 average. Springer is such a dangerous fantasy weapon as the guy can slug homeruns and also can get you SB’s if he doesn’t hit out of the park. I Springer tonight as he has had success against the left-handed Ariel Miranda of Seattle as all 4 hits he has gotten against Miranda have left the ball park.
Khris Davis (Oakland - $4,000) – As I mentioned w/ Matt Chapman, I like Oakland’s matchup against the White Sox’s Miguel Gonzalez tonight. Davis has shown us that he has the power to hit any ball out the ball park and although he is hitting just .258 on the season, Davis has already raked up 5 HR’s and 12 RBI’s. Davis hasn’t seen much of Gonzalez in his career however, he does have a .333 average (2-6) with a HR against him.
Matt Joyce (Oakland - $2,900) – I’m staying in Oakland with my first “value” pick, as although it’s almost not a value at $2,900, I like the left-handed bat of Joyce against Miguel Gonzalez tonight. Joyce is always a little risky as he has a chance to come out of the game when the opposing team brings in a LHP, however, Joyce has always shown some decent power and comes into this game with 2 HR’s so far on the season. Joyce has had a pretty good sample size of 27 AB’s against Gonzalez in his career and comes into this game with a lifetime .333 avg, 1.333 OPS, and a HR against the right-hander.
Adam Jones (Baltimore - $3,000) – Adam Jones, like most of the Baltimore lineup, has struggled to start the season, however, Jones will be happy to see the left-handed Francisco Liriano on the mound tonight as the Baltimore center fielder has owned Liriano in the past. Jones is hitting just .221 on the season, but does have 3 HR’s on the year and will be playing tonight with the wind blowing out to left-field at Comerica Park. Jones is hitting .375 this season against LHP and in his career against Liriano, Jones has posted a .333 average, 1.083 OPS, and 3 HR’s in 24 total AB’s against the left-hander.
Hunter Pence (San Francisco - $2,200) – If you really need to save some money, take a look at Hunter Pence tonight even though he is going against one of the better pitchers in baseball so far this season in Arizona’s Patrick Corbin. Pence might not be the same player he once was, but it’s just hard to ignore the success he has had against Corbin in his career, as coming into this matchup Pence has posted an incredible .429 avg, 1.430 OPS, 4 HR’s, and 11 RBI’s in 35 AB’s against Corbin. I don’t like going against Corbin, however, for the low price of $2,200, you could do worse.
