Daily Fantasy Baseball (DFS) - MLB FanDuel Lineup - 4/27/18

There is some rain in the forecast tonight and two games you’ll have to keep an eye on will be the St. Louis/Pittsburgh & Tampa Bay/Boston matchups.

As always, remember to check the weather and the starting lineups when they are released as you don’t want to find out before it’s too late that you have someone in your lineups that isn’t going to be playing that night!

Yesterday Recap: Yikes….a tough night. Both the top pitchers on the slate, Chris Sale and Dylan Bundy, didn’t put up the performances expected for their price tags and Bundy was especially a head scratcher gave up two 2-run HR’s in the first two innings to C.J. Cron and Wilson Ramos after he entered the game giving up just 1 HR on the season and was holding RHB’s to just a .094 average. After Bundy only mustered us 5 FanDuel points, it didn’t help that Kyle Hendricks pitched a gem against the Brewers and that Brock Holt, who laced a double in his first at-bat came up lame pulling into 2nd base and was taken out of the game. The silver-lining in all this, at least J.D. Martinez had a big 3-run HR, especially as he was my “Long Ball Lock” o the day.

Here is my current lineup for today:

There are a lot of good matchups to target for your offensive line up as the Baltimore Orioles, Cincinnati Reds, Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Indians, Detroit Tigers, New York Mets, and New York Yankees all have favorable matchups. There are only a few upper tier pitchers on today’s slate so I’m going to against spent my money on a top-pitcher and find fill in my offensive with the various players from the teams listed above.

P – Jacob deGrom (NYM - $10,600) – With a lot of good value on at the hitters positions tonight, I’m paying up for Jacob deGrom tonight as he has a nice looking matchup against the San Diego Padres on Friday. deGrom has started his season nicely, posting a 2-0 record with a 2.53 ERA and 1.03 WHIP. The hard-throwing right-hander is holding opponents to a .212 average on the season and has been especially good against LHB who he is holding to a .176 average. deGrom always has high strikeout upside and it’s especially good in this matchup as deGrom currently has a 11.3 K/9 ratio while the Padres come into this game dead last in MLB in strikeout rate, striking out an average of 10.5 times a game.

C/1B – Yonder Alonso (CLE - $3,100) – Yonder Alonso is another one of those DFS players who is somewhat “boom or bust” as although Alonso has the power to get you a HR, generally, if he doesn’t hit a HR he is going to have a hard time cracking double-digit points for you on the night. Alonso is hitting just .205 on the season, but the power is still there for the LHB as he does have 5 HR’s and 13 RBI’s on the season. Alonso has one of the better matchups up the night against the RHP Erasmo Ramirez who comes into this game with a 9.64 ERA and 3.86 HR/9 ratio. Alonso is hitting RHP better this season and is a good price at $3,100 especially as he is 6 for 9 (.667 average) against Ramirez in his career.

2B – Jason Kipnis (CLE - $3,200) -  Trust me…..I know how bad Jason Kipnis has been on the season however, if there was a matchup/game that the veteran second baseman can get out if his early season funk, I think it’s against Erasmo Ramirez. Kipnis is hitting just .159 on the season and yet to has a HR on the year, however, he has great numbers against Ramirez in his career as Kipnis is 5 for 12 (.417 average) with 2 solo HR’s off the right-hander. I think Cleveland has a good chance to put some runs up and as Kipnis is too good of player to continue his struggles, I’m banking that he gets going tonight.

3B – Yolmer Sanchez (CHW - $3,100) – As I mentioned in my daily fantasy lineup video last night, I was surprised to see how much success the White Sox have had against the LHP Danny Duffy of the Royals. Yolmer Sanchez is having a nice season for the White Sox as the switch-hitting 3B has a .301 average with 1 HR, 11 RBI’s and 3 SB’s on the year. Sanchez is hitting .381 over the past week, has a .385 (10-26) average against Duffy in his career, and going into last night’s game had scored at least 18.5 FanDuel points in 3 of his previous 4 games.

SS – Xander Bogaerts (BOS- $2,000) – This is probably going to be the most obvious and highly owned pick up the night, however, as the X-man is supposed to come off the DL today and get the start tonight, you have to get him in your lineups for the bare minimum price of $2,000. Obviously, you’ll need to ensure that he does come of the DL and gets the start tonight along with the fact you’ll have to monitor this game due to a possibility of a rain-out.

OF – Ronald Acuna Jr. (ATL - $3,200) – I still can’t get over that HR Acuna hit for the Braves yesterday and the reaction of the Braves fan who caught it….it was awesome. Acuna has only been up in the major leagues for two games now, but he certainly has showcased the talent and upside that made him one of the top prospects in baseball. Acuna has a monster game yesterday, going 3 for 4 with a double, HR, 2 runs, and 2 RBI’s and although he has a tough matchup against Aaron Nola tonight, Acuna just brings to much upside for the $3,200 price point.

OF – Steve Pearce (TOR - $3,000) – Steve Pearce is having another nice season at the plate as the Toronto outfielder comes into this game with a .314 average with 3 HR’s and 11 RBI’s. Pearce has a bunch of power and goes into Friday’s game with a nice matchup against the LHP Mike Minor of the Texas Rangers. Pearce has fared well this season against LHP, hitting .355 against on the season, and has had a success against Minor in his career as he is 3 for 5 against him with a HR.

OF – Scott Schebler (CIN - $2,700) – I knew I was going with Votto at my utility position so I need to find someone that could fill in my last OF spot with the $2,700 I had remaining and decided to go with Votto’s team Scott Schebler. Schebler is certainly a guy that can hit HR’s and although he has missed the majority of April due to an injury, the Cincinnati outfield is still hitting .303 with 2 HR’s and 5 RBI’s. Schebler is hitting .286 over the past week with a HR and has a great matchup against the RHP Phil Hughes of the Twins who gives up a lot of HR’s.

Utility – Joey Votto (CIN - $4,000) – It took Joey Votto awhile this year to get it going, but you knew it would be only a matter of time as the veteran first-baseman has really got it going over the past week. Votto is hitting just .256 on the season however, over the past week he has started to hit the ball with some power as he has 3 HR’s and 8 RBI’s. Cincinnati’s matchup against the Twins is a solid one as the as the win looks like it will be blowing out to right-field and as I mentioned above, the Reds go up against Phil Hughes who has a career 1.3 HR/9 ratio.

Good Luck Tonight Everyone!
