Pitchers

High Cost:

Jake Arrieta (Philadelphia Phillies - $8,800) – It was between Trevor Bauer and Jake Arrieta for my “high-cost” options for Monday, but I decided to go with the Philadelphia right-hander as I just liked his matchup against the Miami Marlins better. Arrieta has been a great addition to the Phillies rotation and comes into this game with a 1.82 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and is holding opponents to an average of just .170. Arrieta has fared well agianst the Marlins on his career, as he is holding the current Miami roster to just a .174 average (8 for 46). Arrieta only has a 6.57 K/9 ratio however, Miami does rank 29th in strikeout rate and as Arrieta has gone at least 7 innings in his last two games, I think Arrieta will have solid game here and get us at least 40 points.

Low Cost:

Aaron Sanchez (Toronto Blue Jays -$6,500) – Aaron Sanchez doesn’t have eye popping numbers, but you can’t expect to see that for a guy that costs just $6,500. Sanchez comes into this game with a 3.69 ERA and 1.33 WHIP and although he has just a 6.54 K/9 ratio, I like the possibility of a good game against the twins as he is RHB’s to just a .149 average on the season and has good success against Dozier, Mauer, and Morrison in his career. Sanchez has a ton of potential and certainly can get a few K’s as he struck out 8 Red Sox’s in his last outing and as he has scored at topped 40 FanDuel points in 2 of his last 3 outings and I like Toronto’s chances of getting Sanchez a win as they are going up agianst the hittable Lance Lynn, I think Sanchez is the play tonight at just $6,500.

Hitters

Catchers/1st base

High Cost:

Joey Votto (Cincinnati Reds - $4,100) – Joey Votto is on a tear as of late and I have no problems spending up for him on Monday night with his matchup against the RHP Jhoulys Chacin of the Milwaukee Brewers. Votto is hitting just .271 on the season however, has once again has shown why he must be considered one of the best hitters in baseball after hitting .346 with 4 HR’s and 9 RBI’s over the past week. Votto is hitting .304 against RHP on the season and as he is 6 for 18 (.333) with 2 HR’s agianst Chacin in his career, Votto is a solid option if you want to pay up at the C/1B tonight.

Low Cost:

Jesus Aguilar (Milwaukee Brewers - $2,800) – I’m going to be staying at Great American Ball Park for my “low-cost” option at 1B as he should be in the lineup for the Brewers on Monday night as Milwaukee will be going up against the left-handed Brandon Finnegan. Aguilar is hitting .381 on the season in 48 AB’s and has absolutely crushed LHP as he is hitting .429 against lefties on the season. Aguilar has plenty of power to get us some HR’s and you have to like the matchup against Finnegan who had a 8.03 ERA and 2.19 HR/9 ratio on the season.

2nd base

High Cost:

Jose Altuve (Houston Astros -$4,500) – If you listen to Mitch’s live broadcasts when Sonny Gray is on the mound, you know how much he likes going against him and who can blame him as I completely agree that Sonny Gray has been a complete bust for the Yankees. I’m once against going with Altuve as my “High-Cost” option at 2B of the night as the second baseman is hitting .351 on the season and has started to hit for power as of late as over the past week he is hitting .360 with 2 HR’s. Gray has a 7.71 ERA this season and as Altuve has a .367 average (11-30) against Gray in his career, I think the Altuve and the Astros bats are a good choice tomorrow night at Minute Maid Park where the wind will be blowing out.

Low Cost:

Joey Wendle – (Tampa Bay Rays - $3,100) – Tampa Bay has been surprising many people over the past week as their offense has been outstanding as of late, and as they have one of the best matchups of the night against Jordan Zimmerman of the Detroit Tigers, it’s important not to overlook the Rays on Monday. Joey Wendle has been great for the Rays this season, hitting .338 with a HR and 9 RBI’s and has an impressive .308 average agianst the RHP. Zimmerman is not where near the pitcher he used to be and as he comes into this game with a 7.91 ERA, 2.33 HR/9 ratio, while allowing LHB’s to hit .318 against him, I think Wendle is a fine option if you’re looking to save a little money at 2B.

Shortstop

High Cost:

Corey Seager - (Los Angeles Dodgers - $3,400) – Corey Seager is starting to swing a hot bat as although he is hitting just .258 on the season, the talented SS from the Dodgers has a .350 average with a HR and 5 RBI’s over the past week. I like Seager tonight as not only does he have excellent value at $3,400, he has a decent matchup agianst the RHP Zack Greinke of the Arizona Diamondbacks, who I think is just not the same pitcher he once was. Greinke has given up at least 4 ER’s in 3 of his 5 starts this season and his fastball is in the low 90’s, opponents have been having much more success against him this season. Seager is hitting .290 against RHP on the season and as he is 6 for 14 (.429 average) with 2 HR’s and 4 RBI’s against Greinke in his career, I’ll be getting the Dodgers SS in many of my lineups tonight.

Low Cost:

Addison Russell (Chicago Cubs - $2,400) – Addison Russell is not having the season that he nor the Cubs were hoping for so far, however, the young SS for the Cubs certainly has shown that he has the ability for big games and after a solid 2 for 2 game today with a triple and RBI, I think there are worse options at the SS position if you’re trying to spend under $2,500. Russell has hit better against LHP this season and I’m hoping he can get his 1st HR of the season against the LHP Kyle Freeman of the Colorado Rockies who comes into this game with a 1.67 HR/9 ratio.

3rd Base

High Cost:

Kris Bryant (Chicago Cubs - $4,200) – Kris Bryant didn’t have a good game for us today, however, I’m not bailing on the slugging 3B tomorrow as I really like his matchup agianst the LHP Kyle Freeman of the Colorado Rockies. Bryant comes into this game hitting .306 on the season with 2 HR’s and 11 RBI’s and I think it’s only a matter of time in which the Bryant starts slugging some HR’s out of the park. Freeman has pitched decent this season however, has given 5 HR’s on the season and could struggle keeping the ball within Wrigley Field as the win is going to be blowing out hard to left-field tomorrow. Bryant is hitting .455 against LHP on the season and as I’ll be saving some money at the pitcher’s position tomorrow, I should be able to make room for Bryant in my lineups.

Low Cost:

Yangervis Solarte (Toronto Blue Jays -$3,200) – If you watched my FanDuel Daily Fantasy Line up video for today, you’ll noticed that I did have Yangervis Solarte in my Utility spot which paid off as the Solarte went 2 for 4 with a HR and 2 RBI’s for a nice 25.2 point day. Solarte was only hitting .218 on the season going into Sunday’s matchup however, he is worth a look tomorrow as he has great HR power and will be going up agianst the RHP Lance Lynn who comes into this game with a 7.71 ERA and 1.45 HR/9 ratio. Solarte has been hitting better as an LHB this season, hitting 4 HR’s with a .848 OPS and as Lynn is allowing LHB’s to hit .346 against him on the season, Solarte is a great “low-cost” option at $3,200.

Outfielders

High Cost:

Rhys Hoskins (Philadelphia Phillies - $4,500) – Rhys Hoskins is slowly establishing himself as one of the more dangerous hitters in the league and comes into this game with a .333 average with 4 HR’s, 19 RBI’s, and 16 runs scored. Hoskins has a great matchup against Dan Straily of the Miami Marlins who Hoskins has an incredible .750 average (6-8) against with 3 HR’s and 7 RBI’s. Hoskins is hitting .333 against RHP on the season and as I expect Straily to be a little rusty as he is making his first start of the year, I really like Hoskins and the Phillies bats tomorrow.

J.D. Martinez (Boston Red Sox - $4,100) – J.D. Martinez is starting to heat up for the Red Sox as the slugging OF entered today’s game with a .301 average with 5 HR’s and 20 RBI’s and improved those totals today with a 4 for 4 performance with 2 RBI’s. Martinez is just a professional hitter and has a nice matchup agianst the right-handed Jason Hammel of the Kansas City Royals who he has a .333 average (2 for) with a HR agianst in his career. Hammel as actually struggled more against RHB’s this season and as Martinez is hitting .306 with a .381 wOBA agianst RHP, I think Martinez is a good “high-cost” option tonight.

Also Considered: Josh Reddick (Houston Astros - $3,700) Reddick has 6 HR’s on the season and you have to like the matchup he has against Sonny Gray.

Low Cost:

Ryan Braun (Milwaukee Brewers - $3,400) – Ryan Braun is not the cheapest of options in the OF but at just $3,400 he has some great value agianst he LHP Brandon Finnegan of the Cincinnati Reds on Monday night. Braun is hitting just .256 on the season, but does have 5 HR’s and 15 RBI’s and has had success against Finnegan in his career as he is 3 for 7 lifetime with a solo HR. Finnegan has a 2.19 HR/9 ratio this season and I like really like Braun in this spot as he has hit LHP to the tune of a .312 average and .953 OPS over his past three seasons.

Denard Span (Tampa Bay Rays - $3,000) – Denard Span is hitting just .268 on the season, however, he does have 2 HR’s and 19 RBI’s on his year and added another HR today against Rick Porcello of the Red Sox in Tampa’s 4-3 loss. Span and the Tampa Bay offense has been on fire as of late and I like the chances of that to continue against Jordan Zimmerman of the Tigers who has a 2.33 HR/9 ratio and is allowing LHB’s to hit .318 against him. Span has been batting at the top of the Rays lineup which we like to see when we go for some value and at just $3,000, makes a great option on Sunday.

Also Consider – Adam Duvall (Cincinnati Reds - $2,700) – Duvall is a player that certainly can carry your team to a win with a multi HR performance and is a decent option at $2,700 as he has a .333 career average with a HR against Jhoulys Chacin of the Brewers.
