Daily Fantasy Baseball (DFS) - MLB FanDuel Lineup – 5/1/18
It’s Tuesday May 1st, 2018 and let’s take a look at the lineup I have going for today’s main slate (7:05 EST) for tonight MLB FanDuel contests.
As always, remember to check the weather and the starting lineups when they are released as you don’t want to find out before it’s too late that you have someone in your lineups that isn’t going to be playing this afternoon!
If you want to sneak peak of my lineup before this article is released, remember to check out my video posted on Sports Chat Place Facebook page!
Yesterday Recap: Just a bunch of averages performances en route to a 116.6 point performance. Sanchez lasted 6 innings and got the win but didn’t put up a good point total as he gave up 4 ER’s and got only 2 K’s. Russell Martin, who was a last minute addition, did hit us a HR and was our best player at 21.7 points (not usually a good thing if your $2,200 player scores you your most points….). Braun, Votto, and Bryant all had double-digit points but none of them had monster games and we got very little out of Jose Altuve and Denard Span in good matchups.
Here is my current lineup for today:
I’m going big with a few players as I’m going with Kershaw, Trout, and Villanueva and hoping that my low-cost options and Angels stack against Alex Cobb can have a big night!
P – Clayton Kershaw (LAD - $11,100) – There are a ton of top-tier pitchers going tonight, however, I think Kershaw is the best one to roster tonight as he has a nice matchup against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Kershaw has been roughed up a bit in his last two starts, however, he still comes into this game with a .284 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and has a 9.95 K/9 ratio. Kershaw has owned Arizona throughout his career as he is holding the current lineup to a .187 average (34-182) and striking them out 31% of the time. Kershaw had his best performance of the season against the Diamondbacks about two weeks ago, going 7 innings while giving up no runs and striking out 12 for a nice 64 point FanDuel performance.
C/1B – Logan Morrison (MIN- $2,500) – Logan Morrison didn’t get off to a dream start in his first season with Minnesota, however, the slugging first baseman has started to pick up as of late and has a nice matchup against the RHP Marco Estrada of the Toronto Blue Jays. Morrison is hitting just .151 on the season with 2 HR’s and 6 RBI’s, however, over the past week is hitting .286 with a HR and 3 RBI’s. Morrison will be up against Estrada who had a 6.00 ERA and 2.33 HR/9 ratio and Morrison has had success in his career against Estrada as he is 8 for 21 (.381 avg) lifetime with 3 HR’s and 10 RBI’s. As Morrison has some nice HR power, he is a good “low-cost” option at the C/1B position tonight.
2B – Kolten Wong (STL - $2,400) - Like I said, as I have Kershaw, Trout, and Villanueva in my lineup, it’s going to be pretty thin at the other positions and hence why, I’m going with Kolten Wong as my 2B. Wong is hitting just .194 on the season with a HR and 5 RBI’s however, has been swinging a better bat as of late as he is hitting .316 over the past week.2B was the last position I selected and with my options I had, I liked Wong as he does also have a good matchup against the RHP James Shields of the White Sox who currently has a 5.97 ERA and for the fact he is 1 for 4 with a HR and 4 RBI’s against Shields in his career.
3B – Luis Valbuena (LAA- $2,500) – Valbuena is my first “low-cost” Angel I’m going with tonight to stack against Alex Cobb of the Baltimore Orioles. Cobb is coming into this game getting rocked in all three of his starts this season and currently has a 13.11 ERA, 2.31 HR/9, and is allowing opponents to hit .476 against him on the season. Valbuena is hitting just .244 on the season however, the veteran 3B does have some nice power and has 3 HR’s on the season. Cobb is allowing LHB’s to hit an incredible .545 against him on the season and as Valbuena is 2 for 6 lifetime against Cobb with a HR, I like his price at $2,400.
SS – Andrelton Simmons (LAA- $2,800) – Andrelton Simmons is a great value at $2,800 as he has really improved as a hitter this year, coming into this game with a .312 average with 3 HR’s and 15 RBI’s. Simmons has been hot as of late as over the past week he is hitting .400 with 2 HR’s and 7 RBI’s. Simmons has a .299 average against RHP’s this season and Cobb has also been hit hard by RHB’s as he allowing them to hit .400 so far this season. Simmons is 2 for 5 lifetime against Cobb and as I think he will have some good opportunities with runners on base tonight, I like Simmons at this price.
OF – Kole Calhoun (LAA - $2,200) – This selection is completely matchup-dependent as I wouldn’t be even considering Calhoun if he wasn’t going up against Cobb and is super affordable which is what I need if I want to get Trout in my lineup. Calhoun is hitting just .172 on the season with just 1 HR and 10 RBI’s, however, with his 89 career HR’s, we do know that he is capable of putting one out of the ball park. Calhoun has hit .299 against Baltimore over his past 3 seasons and has a .759 OPS in that same timespan and as I mentioned before, as Cobb is allowing LHB’s to hit .545 against him this season, I’m hoping Calhoun can break out of his season long funk tonight.
OF – Ben Zobrist (CHC - $2,200) – Zobrist is back in the lineup after missing some time with injury and as I have no problems going with the switch-hitter at a price of just $2,200 in a decent matchup at home against Jon Gray of the Rockies. Zobrist is hitting .326 on the season with a HR and 7 RBI’s and has fared well against RHP, as he has a .321 average against righties. Gray has a decent start in his last time out, however, still comes in with a 5.97 average and is allowing opposing hitters to hit .293 against him. The wind will be blowing out at Wrigley tonight and I think Zobrist has great value at just $2,200.
OF – Mike Trout (LAA - $5,400) – Finally, a big bat! To complete my Angels stack for the night, I’m going with Mike Trout who is once again showing why he is one of the best in baseball. Trout is hitting .291 on the season and has been stuffing the stat sheet as he has 10 HR’s, 18 RBI’s, 21 runs scored, and 5 SB’s. Trout has the dream matchup against a struggling Alex Cobb who in his career, he is 7 for 12 against with 2 HR’s and 4 RBI’s. Trout is expensive, but this matchup is just too good to pass up.
Utility – Christian Villanueva (SD - $3,900) – If you haven’t seen my “Long Ball Lock” videos at the Sports Chat Place Facebook Page, go check it out and you’ll see how excited I am about Christian Villanueva tonight. The rookie 3B for the Padres has a .329 average on the season with 8 HR’s and 18 RBI’s however, the real exciting part about Villanueva is the damage he has done against LHP. On the season, Villanueva is hitting .481 with 7 HR’s in just 27 AB’s against LHP! That’s nuts. Villanueva will be up against the LHP Andrew Suarez who gave up 2 HR’s in just 5.1 IP in his only start of the season. Get Villanueva in your lineups.
Have a great Tuesday everyone and Good Luck tonight!
