It’s Wednesday May 2nd, 2018 and let’s take a look at the lineup I have going for today’s early slate (1:05 EST) for today’s MLB FanDuel contests.
As always, remember to check the weather and the starting lineups when they are released as you don’t want to find out before it’s too late that you have someone in your lineups that isn’t going to be playing this afternoon!
If you want to sneak peak of my lineup before this article is released, remember to check out my video posted on Sports Chat Place Facebook page!
Yesterday Recap: Got a couple of solo HR’s with Christian Villanueva and Luis Valbuena, however, that was about it as Kershaw disappointed and we didn’t get much from our Angel’s stack who ended up having rough day (Mike Trout – 4 Walks! Give him something to hit!).
Here is my current lineup for today:
As I mentioned in my video, I liked the “Early” slate more than the “Late” slate tonight and as I’m going to be targeting some of the better hitters, I’m taking a real chance on a top prospect making his MLB debut this afternoon.
P – Fernando Romero (MIN - $5,600) – MLB prospects have been doing great as of last as both Pittsburgh’s Nick Kingham and Atlanta’s Mike Soroka had great debuts and I’m hoping that the same goes for Minnesota’s Fernando Romero who will be starting against the Blue Jays this afternoon. Romero is one of the top pitching prospects for the Twins and has been great in the minors this season posting a 2.57 ERA with 20 K’s in 21 IP. Romero can have some control issues but has a great fastball, slider, and changeup in his arsenal and certainly has the potential to strikeout a good number of Blue Jays today.
C/1B – Salvador Perez (KC- $3,300) – Salvador is my “Long Ball Lock” of the day as he will be going up the “home run” prone Drew Pomeranz of the Boston Red Sox who comes into this game with a 7.27 ERA and 3.12 HR/9 ratio. Perez hit .417 at Fenway last season and is 3 for 5 lifetime agianst Pomeranz and as the conditions are primed for the hitters at Fenway today, I like Perez at this price.
2B – Whit Merrifield (KC - $3,600) – I’m sticking with another RHB for the Royals in White Merrifield who although he is hitting just .266 on the season, he does have 3 HR’s, 10 RBI’s, and 4 SB’s. Merrifield has great speed and another power and has hit LHP’s well this season to the tune of a .405 average. As I mentioned above, I really like the Royals matchup agianst Drew Pomeranz on Tuesday.
3B – Jose Ramirez (CLE- $4,500) – Jose Ramirez had a slow start to his season however, is now hitting .270 on the season with 7 HR’s and 16 RBI’s and has been red hot over his last couple games as he has gone 5 for 9 with 3 doubles, 2 runs scored, and 4 RBI’s. Ramirez has been better as a RHB this season in terms of average, as he is hitting .308 agianst LHP’s and he has a favorable matchup agianst Matt Moore, I don’t mind paying up for him this afternoon.
SS – Francisco Lindor (CLE- $4,300) – Lindor and the Cleveland Indians have one of the better matchups of the afternoon going agianst the left-handed Matt Moore of the Texas Rangers. Lindor might be hitting just .245 on the season however, he still has been very productive at the plate as the star SS currently has 4 HR’s, 11 RBI’s, 17 runs scored, and 5 SB’s. Lindor is hitting .316 against LHP on the season and is 6 for 10 lifetime with a HR and 3 RBI’s agianst Moore in his career.
OF – Eddie Rosario (SD - $3,100) – The LHB Eddie Rosario has really started to pick it up as of late as although he is hitting just .242 with 4 HR’s and 15 RBI’s on the season, he has had 3 multi-hit games in his last 5 games (hitting .333 in that span) including a 2-4 performance last night with a double and HR. Rosario has hit RHP’s much better this season and has a nice matchup against Marcus Stroman who I mentioned about is allowing LHB’s to hit .319 against him so far this season.
OF – J.D. Martinez (BOS - $4,500) – I’m staying in Boston as the I mentioned the conditions are primed for the hitters today and sticking the other big Boston beat in J.D. Martinez. Martinez is hitting .337 on the season with 5 HR’s and 22 RBI’s and has been hitting well as of late as over the past week he has a .423 average with a .490 wOBA. Martinez hasn’t had much career success against Duffy however, I think Martinez is a much better hitter than he was in the past when he faced a tougher Duffy and I’m expecting a nice day from Martinez today.
OF – Max Kepler (LAA - $3,000) – After spending up on Lindor, Betts, and Martinez, I need some value picks for my last OF and Utility and I’m headed to Minnesota in that. Max Kepler is having a nice year for the Twins as he comes into this game with a .299 average with 4 HR’s and he has been swinging a hot bat as of late as he is hitting .323 over the past week. Kepler has a nice matchup against Marcus Stroman who had an 8.88 ERA and is allowing LHB’s to hit .319 against him on the season.
Utility – Matt Carpenter (STL - $3,100) – Matt Carpenter has had a real tough season as he is hitting just .170 on the season, however, I’m hoping that his 2 for 4 performance last nice which included a game-tying HR in the 9th will finally get the veteran hitter going. Carpenter has done all his damage against RHP this season and faces Lucas Giolito who had struggled this season as he comes into game with a 7.71 ERA. Carpenter has a .909 OPS agianst RHP over his past three seasons and we have to be happy that he is still batting near the top of the Cardinals lineup.
Have a great Wednesday everyone and Good Luck this afternoon!
