Daily Fantasy Baseball (DFS) - MLB FanDuel Lineup – 5/3/18
It’s Thursday May 3rd, 2018 and let’s take a look at the lineup I have going for today’s early slate (1:05 EST) for today’s MLB FanDuel contests.
As always, remember to check the weather and the starting lineups when they are released as you don’t want to find out before it’s too late that you have someone in your lineups that isn’t going to be playing this afternoon!
If you want to sneak peak of my lineup before this article is released, remember to check out my video posted on Sports Chat Place Facebook page!
Yesterday Recap: Huge day yesterday afternoon as we finished with an incredible 282.10 points and crushed it at in pretty much any format yesterday. Our offense had a combined 10 HR’s with Mookie Betts and Edwin Encarnacion each having 3. We took a chance on Minnesota’s Fernando Romero in his MLB Debut and it paid off as he went 5.2 innings with 5 K’s and picked up a win. If you haven’t seen our “Big Winner” article, you’ll see that my $33 dollar tournament went real well yesterday as we finished 3rd for a nice $2,000 prize.
Here is my current lineup for today:
Once again, I’m focusing on the “Early” slate of games today as I really want to target the Braves/Mets matchup.
We also had to make some adjustments from last night’s video as Dansby Swanson isn’t playing today due to that sore wrist that forced him out of the game early last night.
P – Lance McCullers Jr. (HOU- $9,000) – Pitching is pretty thin on the afternoon slate today and as I don’t see really any low-cost value, I’m going to pay up for Lance McCullers Jr. I can’t say I love McCullers Jr. today against a Yankees team that he has struggled in the past, however, I think he has the most upside as he has posted two 50+ FanDuel performances over his last three starts. McCullers Jr. has a respectable 3.71 ERA but I’m going with more for is ability to strike people out as he has an 11.7 K/9 ratio. The Yankees lineup is intimidating however, as they do rank 28th in strikeout rate, McCullers has the potential to have a nice day for us.
C/1B – Freddie Freeman (ATL- $4,400) – Freddie Freeman is just one of those players you don’t have to sell when you put him in your lineup as he is just that good. Freeman is hitting .333 on the season with 4 HR’s and 22 RBI’s and is hitting .423 over the past week and has one of the best matchups of the day against the LHP Jason Vargas who got rocked in his first start last Saturday (3.2 IP, 9H, 9 ER, 2 HR). Freeman is hitting .400 (10-25) with a 1.276 OPS against LHP on the season and I think the Braves and Freeman are in for a big day on Thursday.
2B – Ozzie Albies (ATL- $4,400) – I’m all on the Ozzie fan train right now as the Braves 2nd baseman has been one of the entertaining players to watch this season. Albies has been great to start the season as he comes into this game with a .289 average with 9 HR’s, 20 RBI’s, 30 runs scored, and 3 SB’s. Albies has the nice matchup against Jason Vargas and as he is hitting .500 (12 for 24) as a RHB with 4 HR’s and 5 RBI’s, Albies will be in my lineup and is also my “Long Ball Lock” of the day.
3B – Johan Camargo (KC- $2,100) – To afford some of the higher priced Braves, I had to go value at the 3B and SS positions this afternoon, however, I think Camargo has some of the best value in the afternoon slate. Camargo is batting 6th in the order today which should be a great spot against Vargas and the Mets and in limited AB’s this season (just 19 AB’s), Camargo is hitting .316 with 2 HR’s and 9 RBI’s. Vargas is allowing RHB to hit .538 (7 for 13) against him on the season and I’m hoping Camargo can take advantage of his on Thursday
SS – Jose Reyes (NYM - $2,000) – Jose Reyes doesn’t get much playing time nowadays and he probably shouldn’t but I needed to save money today and as he is batting leadoff today, I’ll take chance with the veteran Reyes who actually has a nice game last week against the Padres ( 2 for 5 with a HR) and as has had experience against Teheran in career, I’ll take a chance on Reyes so I can pay up elsewhere.
OF – Ronald Acuna (ATL - $3,800) – Acuna is my last Brave player I’ll have in my stack against Vargas and although his price is getting up there, I still want the talented rookie in my lineup as so far in his limited action at the MLB level, he is hitting .417 with a HR, 4 RBI’s, and SB. Acuna just has so much upside and ability it’s hard not to like him in this matchup, especially as I think he’ll have a few people on base today to drive in.
OF – Gregory Polanco (PIT - $2,900) – Gregory Polanco has really struggled after his hot start to the season as the talented OF for the Pirates has seen his average drop all the way down to .192 on the season. Even with the poor batting average Polanco has still shown his power as he has 6 HR’s on the season including 1 recently in a 2 for 6 performance against the Cardinals. Polanco had a nice game last night against the Nationals and as he is 4 for 11 against Hellickson with a HR in his career, I’m happy to get a talent like Polanco in my lineup for under $3,000.
OF – Starling Marte (PIT - $3,300) – Marte has had a good season with the Pirates this season as he is hitting .286 with 3 HR’s, 11 RBI’s, and 8 SB’s and as I like his power/speed ability, I think he is good price today in his matchup against Jeremy Hellickson of the Nationals. Marte is actually hitting much better against RHP on the season (.306 average) and although he is just 1 for 6 against Hellickson in his career, I like Pittsburgh to have some success against the veteran right-hander today.
Utility – Jay Bruce (NYM - $3,100) – Jay Bruce might be hitting just .242 on the season with 2 HR’s however, if you have watched Bruce over the years, you know that when he gets hot, he can put some monster games together and as he is hitting .350 over the past week, I think it’s only a matter a time when he starts smashing some HR’s. Bruce has a decent matchup against the RHP Juilo Teheran of the Braves and although he is just 7 for 31 against the right-hander in his career, he does have 2 HR’s and a .800 OPS against him.
Have a great Thursday everyone and Good Luck this afternoon!
