Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Please Note – This article was written prior to the completion of yesterday’s games so all player statistics are as of 5/5.

High Cost:

Stephen Strasburg (Washington Nationals - $10,000) – Strasburg is the clear cut “high-cost” choice on a small slate on Monday as the Nationals right-hander comes into this game with a 3.47 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and a K/9 ratio of 10.4. Strasburg has fared well against the Padres in his career as he is holding the current Nationals lineup to just a .206 average (13 for 63) and is striking them out 30% of the time. Strasburg is holding his opponents to just a .216 average on the season and should be able to pile up some strikeouts as San Diego comes into this game ranked 30th in strikeout rate as the average 10.2 strikeouts per game.

Low Cost:

Fernando Romero (Minnesota Twins -$6,400) – Fernando Romero was excellent in his MLB debut this past Wednesday, going 5.2 innings while giving up no runs and striking out five. Romero arsenal consists of an above average Fastball to go along with a decent change-up and slider. Romero can at times have some control problems however, as he is price is still this low, he has great upside and can easily put up another 35-40 FanDuel points if he has a good day.

Catchers/1st base

High Cost:

Matt Adams (Washington Nationals - $3,900) – Matt Adams has been crushing the ball as of late as he has already hit another HR today and came in this game with a .333 average with 4 HR’s and 7 RBI’s over the past week. Adams has always had a ton of power, however, he is putting together a nice season for the Nationals as he currently is batting .284 with 7 HR’s and 17 RBI’s. Adams will be up against Tyson Ross of the San Diego Padres who is allowing LHB’s to hit .297 on the season. Adams has also had some success agianst Ross in his career as he is 4 for 7 (.571 average) lifetime against the right-hander.

Low Cost:

Adrian Gonzalez (New York Mets - $2,500) – Adrian Gonzalez might not be an everyday player anymore as he only has 89 AB’s on the season, however, I imagine he will be in the lineup up tomorrow as he is going agianst Homer Bailey of the Cincinnati Reds who he has crushed over his career. Gonzalez comes into this game with just a .221 average with 3 HR’s and 17 RBI’s however, has hit .440 (11-25) with 6 HR’s against the right-handed Bailey in his career. Bailey has really struggled with HR’s this season with a 1.83 HR/9 ratio and as Gonzalez is hitting .294 with a HR and 5 RBI’s over the past week, Gonzalez has some good value on Monday.

2nd base

High Cost:

Jose Altuve – (Houston Astros -$4,300) – Houston will be a popular stack if you save money at other areas tomorrow and it would start with the star baseman of the Houston Astros who comes into this game with a .324 average with 2 HR’s and 16 RBI’s despite hitting just .214 over the past week. Altuve will be up against the left-hander Brett Anderson and although he is just 1 for 6 with a BB in career agianst the left-hander, Altuve has a .345 average and .945 OPS agianst LHP over his past three seasons.

Low Cost:

Alen Hanson – (San Francisco Giants -$3,100) – Alen Hanson has jumped on the scene with the San Francisco Giants and as his price is still reasonable, I don’t have any problems taking a chance with Hansen on Monday. Hanson is hitting .292 on the season with 2 HR’s, 8 RBI’s, and 2 SB’s in just 25 AB’s on the season. Hanson has a decent matchup agianst Zach Eflin who although he pitched well in his first game of the season against Miami however, Eflin hasn’t shown much success in the back as he has a career 5.66 ERA and allowed RHB’s to hit .312 against him last season. Hanson probably won’t keep up the power numbers he has shown over the past week, but for $3,100, I’ll take a chance with him.

High Cost:

Carlos Correa - (Houston Astros - $4,200) – Carlos Correa is putting up another impressive season as the Astros shortstop comes into this game with a .298 average, 5 HR’s, 25 RBI’s and 22 runs scored. Correa is hitting .323 against LHP on the season and has hit .288 with an .872 OPS agianst left-handed pitching throughout his career. Brett Anderson pitched a decent game in his first start of the season against Seattle however, this is the same pitcher that has really struggled over the past two seasons as last year in a combined 13 starts with Toronto and the Chicago Cubs, Anderson posted a 6.34 ERA and 1.70 WHIP. Correa has struggled a bit as of late, but I like Correa and the Astros tomorrow against Anderson.

Low Cost:

Brandon Crawford (San Francisco Giants - $2,800) –  Brandon Crawford is hitting just .241 on the season however, the veteran shortstop has played much better as of late as over the past week, he is hitting .391 with a HR and 7 RBI’s. Crawford is hitting just .220 against RHP on the season however, has a great matchup against Zach Eflin of the Phillies in which he is 4 for 8 with 2 HR’s and 5 RBI’s in his career. Crawford price is rising as it was just $2,200 a week ago, but as it’s still under $3,000, I like Crawford for Monday.

3rd Base

High Cost:

Jeimer Candelario (Detroit Tigers - $3,700) – Jeimer Candelario is sitting out Sunday’s game with a jammed thumb, however, the injury doesn’t sound too serious and as he has a great matchup against the left-handed Matt Moore of the Rangers on Monday, I don’t mind paying up for his price. Candelario is hitting .281 with 4 HR’s, 14 RBI’s, and 19 run scored on the season and will be up against Moore who currently has a 7.94 ERA and is allowing opponents to hit .339 against him on the season.

Low Cost:

Matt Chapman (Oakland Athletics - $3,100) – Matt Chapman has slowed down from his torrid start to the season, however, he has still put up some impressive numbers outside the .238 average, as Chapman currently has 6 HR’s, 15 RBI’s, and 21 runs scored to start his season. Chapman is hitting better agianst LHP as he is hitting .270 against lefties on the season and will face off against the left-handed Dallas Keuchel who had a 1.67 HR/9 ratio. Chapman has fared well agianst Keuchel in his career as he is 4 for 7 against him with 2 HR’s and 3 RBI’s agianst him.

High Cost:

Bryce Harper (Washington Nationals -$5,400) – Bryce Harper is slugging HR’s out the park at a rapid rate again and he is right back as one of my top “high-cost” options on Monday. Harper has a .255 average on the season with 12 HR’s, 28 RBI’s, 29 runs scored, and 4 SB’s while having a BB% of 25.5%. Harper is hitting .269 over the past week however, does have 4 HR’s and 11 RBI’s and seems to be enjoying his time at the top of the Nationals batting order. Harper has a nice matchup against Zach Eflin who has allowed LHB’s to hit .299 with a .932 OPS in his career.

Nicholas Castellanos (Detroit Tigers - $3,800) – Castellanos is sitting out Sunday’s game due to an illness, so you’ll want to make sure he is playing, however, if he does play, Castellanos has a great matchup against Matt Moore of the Texas Rangers who has really struggled this season. Castellanos hasn’t faced Moore in his career, however, I don’t think that will matter much as Castellanos is currently hitting .478 with a 1.321 OPS against LHP on the season. Moore is allowing RHB’s to hit .330 on the season and as he is coming off a game in which he gave up 10 ER’s and 3 HR’s in just 4.0 IP, I think Castellanos is worth the extra money tomorrow.

George Springer (Houston Astros - $4,400) – George Springer is hitting just .273 on the season, however, the Astros OF has piled up some nice offensive statistics as he has 7 HR’s, 21 RBI’s, and 28 runs scored. Springer has been one of the best Astros hitters as of late as he has hit .333 with 2 HR’s over the past week. Springer hasn’t faced hasn’t faced the left-handed Brett Anderson before, however, been great against LHP on the season as he has a .595 SLG% and a .921 OPS on the season.

Low Cost:

Michael Conforto (New York Mets - $3,100) – Michael Conforto has really struggled so far this season for the Mets as he is hitting just .187 on the season with a HR and 6 RBI’s, however, I don’t mind taking a chance on him tomorrow as he has a nice matchup against Homer Bailey of the Cincinnati Reds who had really struggled as of late. Conforto is much better against RHP in his career as over the last three seasons he had a .274 average and .903 OPS against righties.

Nomar Mazara (Texas Rangers - $3,300) – Nomar Mazara has been swinging a hot bat for the Rangers as he comes into this game with 4 HR’s and 11 RBI’s over the past week. Mazara has put up some nice numbers on the season as he has 7 HR’s, 23 RI’s, and 18 runs scored on the season. Mazara has a tough matchup against the Tigers Michael Fulmer, however, Fulmer is allowing LHB’s to hit .270 against him on the season and Mazara has had some success against Fulmer as he is 3 for 6 against him in his career.
