Daily Fantasy Baseball (DFS) - MLB FanDuel Lineup – 5/7/18
Update (3:00pm) - I have a feeling that Stephen Piscotty won't be going tonight so I'm making an early switch and replacing him with JaCoby Jones of the Detroit Tigers who has a nice matchup against the LHP Matt Moore of the Texas Rangers. Also, if Nick Castellanos can't go with the flu, I would replace him with Eddie Rosario of the Twins, however, that's only if Catellanos can't go. I've updated the lineup image below with my current roster.
It’s Monday May 7th, 2018 and let’s take a look at the lineup I have going for today’s main slate (7:05 EST) for today’s MLB FanDuel contests.
As always, remember to check the weather and the starting lineups when they are released as you don’t want to find out before it’s too late that you have someone in your lineups that isn’t going to be playing this afternoon!
If you want to sneak peak of my lineup before this article is released, remember to check out my video posted on the Sports Chat Place Facebook page!
Yesterday Recap: Well we had a great week but we certainly didn’t end it on a great note as Sunday’s team put up the worst performance of the week with just 60.4 points. Yoenis Cespedes got hurt early and was taken out in the 1st inning, our Milwaukee stack against Chad Kuhl didn’t get us a single point, and the few Rays we had against Estrada didn’t do much. We did have Kyle Gibson who had a decent 39 point performance, however, the correct play at the pitching spot was Max Scherzer who had a monster game. At same time, it was a profitable week, especially with the big tournament win on Wednesday, and let’s try to get back on track today!
Here is my current lineup for today:
P – Stephen Strasburg (WAS- $10,000) – I was tempted to go with Fernando Romero of the Twins against after he stellar MLB debut last Wednesday and for the fact that his price is still just $6,400, however, I ended up paying for Strasburg as he matchup against the Padres is too good to pass up. Strasburg has a solid 3.47 ERA and 1.05 WHIP coming into matchup and is holding the current Padres lineup to just a .216 average while striking them out 30% of the time. Strasburg has an outstanding 10.4 K/9 ratio and as the Padres rank last in MLB in strikeout rate, I can easily see Strasburg outscoring my entire team from last night.
C/1B – Adrian Gonzalez (NYM- $2,500) – Adrian Gonzalez is no longer an everyday player as he primarily starts only against RHP, however, we should see Gonzalez in the lineup tonight as he has a nice matchup against Homer Bailey of the Cincinnati Reds. Gonzalez is hitting just .221 on the season with 3 HR’s and 17 RBI’s, however he has rewarded his FanDuel owners with a few big games, including a 41.7 point performance against San Diego just over a week ago. Gonzalez will like his matchup against Bailey tonight as in his career he is 11 for 25 (.440 average) with 6 HR’s in his career against the right-hander.
2B – Alen Hanson (SFG- $3.100) – What a first week for Alen Hanson as the former Pittsburgh Pirate comes into this game with a .292 average with 2 HR’s, 8 RBI’s, and 2 SB’s in just 25 AB’s. Hanson never showed much power in the minors so I doubt the HR’s continue at this pace, however, the Giants bats have been hot as of late and has one of the better matchups against the RHP Zach Eflin of the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday. Eflin has a nice first outing of this season however, still has a career 5.66 ERA and allowed RHB’s to hit .312 against him last season and as Hanson’s price is still reasonable, I’ll hope his bat stays hot tonight.
3B – Matt Chapman (OAK- $3,100) – Matt Chapman has slowed down from his torrid start of the season and although he is hitting just .238 on the season, I think his price tag has fallen enough that he has some good value especially as he has 6 HR’s, 15 RBI’s, and 21 runs scored on the season. Chapman has a more difficult matchup against Dallas Keuchel tonight, however, Keuchel has struggled a bit this year as he is just 1-5 and has a 1.67 HR/9 ratio. Chapman has hit LHP’s better this season (.270 average / .816 OPS) and as he is 4 for 7 lifetime against Keuchel with 2 HR’s, I’ll take my chances with the Oakland 3B tonight.
SS – Brandon Crawford (SFG - $2,800) – Brandon Crawford is really heating up as of late as although the veteran SS is hitting just .241 on the season, he is currently hitting .391 with a HR and 7 RBI’s over the past week. Crawford is hitting just .220 against RHP on the season but you have to like his matchup against Zach Eflin of the Phillies who he is 4 for 8 against in his career with 2 HR’s. Crawford’s price has jumped up a bit as he was just $2,200 at one point last week, however, as he still is below the $3,000 range, I think he has nice value on Monday.
OF – Nomar Mazara (TEX - $3,300) – Nomar Mazara just has a lot of power and I witnessed some if it while watching him take on the Red Sox in their recent series. Mazara is hitting .278 on the season with 7 HR’s and 23 RBI’s and as showed off his power as of late as over the past week, he is hitting .286 with 4 HR’s and 11 RBI’s. Mazara has a tough matchup against Michael Fulmer of the Tigers, however, Fulmer has allowed LHB’s to hit .270 against him on the season. Mazara is 3 for 6 against Fulmer in his career and as he is reasonably priced considering he power hot-streak as of late, I like Mazara at $3,300.
OF – Nick Castellanos (DET - $3,800) – Nick Castellanos missed yesterday due to an illness so you’ll want to monitor his status for tonight, however, if he does play, get him in your lineups with his matchup against Matt Moore of the Texas Rangers. Moore is coming off a game in which he gave up 10 ER’s and 3 HR’s to the Indians while allowing RHB’s to hit .330 against him on the season. Castellanos has crushed LHP this season to the tune of a .478 average and 1.321 OPS and as he has the power to get us a HR or two, I think this is one of the better matchups of the night.
OF – Stephen Piscotty (OAK - $2,500) – My last outfield spot was the last position I had to fill and with $2,500, I had to find some value and I hope I did with Stephen Piscotty of the Oakland Athletics. Piscotty is hitting just .246 on the season but does have 2 HR’s and 13 RBI’s. Piscotty certainly has HR power as he showed with his 440 foot blast the other week and he showed with his time with the Cardinals that he can certainly go off for a big game here and there. Piscotty has a .287 average and .883 OPS against LHP over his last three seasons and I don’t hate his matchup against Dallas Keuchel who had already given up 7 HR’s to RHB’s on the year.
Utility – Brandon Belt (SFG - $3,800) – Brandon Belt will be the last of my mini Giants stack against the RHP Zach Eflin of the Philadelphia Phillies. Belt comes into this game hitting .298 on the season with 6 HR’s and 17 RBI’s. Belt has been especially good against RHP as he has a .316 average and 1.162 OPS and all 6 of his HR’s have been against RHP. Belt has had a .347 average over the past two weeks and he is 3 for 6 with a double and HR against Eflin in his career, I like the San Francisco first baseman tonight.
Have a great Monday everyone and Good Luck this tonight!
