Daily Fantasy Baseball (DFS) - MLB FanDuel Lineup – 5/9/18
It’s Wednesday May 9th, 2018 and let’s take a look at the lineup I have going for today’s main slate (7:05 EST) for today’s MLB FanDuel contests.
As always, remember to check the weather and the starting lineups when they are released as you don’t want to find out before it’s too late that you have someone in your lineups that isn’t going to be playing this afternoon!
If you want to sneak peak of my lineup before this article is released, remember to check out my video posted on Sports Chat Place Facebook page! I also provide a “High Cost / Low Cost” article that will give you some additional options at each position.
Yesterday Recap: Similar performance from last night’s team that we saw on Monday as although we didn’t play in the GPP Tournaments, we did just enough with our 133.80 total to cash in the 50/50’s and have a profitable night. Eugenio Suarez (32.4 points) and Aaron Altherr (21.7 points) led our offense while we got a nice start from Sean Newcomb (46 points) who got us a win and quality start after going 6 innings, giving up 0 runs while striking out 6. We regrettable replaced Scooter Gennett moments before the contest started to replace with DJ LeMahieu which ended up being a mistake as Gennett had a HR and we wished we go more for Manny Machado and Joey Gallo who combined for just 9 points.
Here is my current lineup for today:
P – Nick Pivetta (PHI- $6.700) – I’m taking a chance at the pitching spot tonight and going to go with the Philadelphia Phillies right-hander, Nick Pivetta. Pivetta comes into this game coming off a tough start against the Nationals in which he lasted just 1 inning and currently has a 4.76 ERA, however, I like Pivetta tonight as he has pitched great at home this season. In his 4 starts at home, Pivetta has a 3.00 ERA and is holding opponents to just a .227 average. Pivetta has a decent 9.26 K/9 ratio and has been great against RHB’s, holding them to just a .209 average. The Giants rank 22nd in strikeout rate and as basically all the Giants have never seen Pivetta before in their careers, I think Pivetta has some nice value tonight.
C/1B – Paul Goldschmidt (ARZ- $3,400) – Paul Goldschmidt is going up against a LHP and he is only costs $3,400…..sign me up! It’s been a tough season for the Goldschmidt as he is hitting just .226 on the season with 4 HR’s and 11 RBI’s, however, he is just too good of a hitter for these numbers not to go up and I’m hoping that tonight is the night it starts. Even with his struggles, Goldschmidt has a .306 average and 1.067 OPS against LHP and faces a left-hander in the Dodgers Alex Wood tonight. In his career against Wood, Goldschmidt has a .945 OPS and 3 HR’s.
2B – Jonathan Schoop (BAL- $2,700) – This is a pure value play based on Schoop’s ability to hit HR’s and that he has a good matchup against the LHP Eric Skoglund who enters this game with a 6.84 ERA and 1.37 HR/9 ratio. Schoop might only have 1 HR this season however, this guy has proved he has power as he has combined for 57 HR’s over the last two seasons. Going into last night’s game Schoop was hitting .385 (5-12) against LHP and although you will want to make sure he is back in the lineup tonight as the Orioles might monitor his playing time just coming of the DL, Schoop I think is a nice value play if you don’t want to pay up at 2B tonight.
3B – Mike Moustakas (KC- $3,900) – Mike Moustakas can just flat out hit the baseball and at the rate he is going this season, he might not have to wait so long this off-season to get picked up by a team for a multi-year contract. Moustakas is hitting .300 on the season with 10 HR’s and 28 RBI’s and is coming off a monster performance last night in which he went 3 for 6 with 2 HR’s. Moustakas is hitting .313 with a 1.018 OPS against RHP’s on the season and has a nice matchup against the RHP Andrew Casher of the Orioles who comes into this game with a 2.09 HR/9 ratio.
SS – Manny Machado (BAL - $4,500) – Manny Machado didn’t come through for us last night and actually was taken out of the game early as it was blowout, however, I’m going right back with him on Wednesday as he one of the best matchups of the night against LHP Eric Skoglund. Machado is hitting .349 with 9 HR’s and 27 RBI’s on the season and has crushed LHP as he has a .310 average and 1.072 OPS against lefties. Machado has been great at Camden Yards this season as he has a .392 average and .444 OPS at home and I can see those numbers getting better after tonight.
OF – J.D. Martinez (BOS - $4,700) – The Red Sox were relying on J.D. Martinez to provide some more power to a lineup that desperately needed it and he has delivered as he comes into this game with a .349 average with 10 HR’s, 29 RBI’s, and 22 runs scored. Martinez has been on fire as of late, hitting .400 with 3 HR’s over the past week, and although he a tough matchup against Masahiro Tanaka, Tanaka can give up some HR’s if his splitter is off. Martinez is hitting .340 against RHP’s on the season and I don’t mind paying up for him as he is 7 for 12 (.583 average) with 3 HR’s against Tanaka in his career.
OF – A.J. Pollock (ARZ - $4,400) – A.J. Pollock has been one of the best offensive players in MLB so far this season as the 5-tool player comes into this game with a .308 average 11 HR’s and 31 RBI’s on the season. Pollock is hitting .375 over the past week with a 2B, 3B, HR and 6 RBI’s. Pollock has recorded at least 2 hits in 5 of his last 8 games and has a good matchup against the LHP Alex Wood of the Dodgers who has a career .429 average against with 2 HR’s.
OF – Steven Souza Jr. (ARZ - $2,100) – Steven Souza Jr. finally got his first hits as an Arizona Diamondbacks as he had a nice game going 2 for 3 with a BB after starting his season 0 for 10. Souza Jr. just came off the DL and I think is a huge bargain at this price considering this is a guy that has great power and hit 30 HR’s with the Rays last season. I’m stacking Souza Jr. with Goldschmidt and Pollock tonight as he has also had success of the LHP Alex Wood of the Dodgers as he is 2 for 6 lifetime against him with both hits being HR’s.
Utility – Lucas Duda (KC - $2,500) – For my utility spot, I’m going back to the KC/BAL game and going with the Royals powerful first baseman, Lucas Duda. Duda is hitting just .239 on the season with 3 HR’s however, similar to Moustakas, you have to like his matchup against Andrew Casher who has a 2.09 HR/9 ratio while allowing LHB’s to have a .284 average and .400 wOBA against him. Duda is hitting .286 against RHP on the season and with his ability to hit HR’s, I think he is good option tonight for just $2,500.
