Daily Fantasy Baseball (DFS) - MLB FanDuel Lineup – 5/15/18
Update (4:41pm) - With Soler sitting....I'm replacing him with Nick Castellanos who has that nice matchup against Tomlin. I've updated the image below.
Update (4:28 PM) - There are going to be some severe storms hitting the Northeast that could affect a number of games tonight, so I'm updated my lineup with a "weather-safe" lineup. I'm basically going to be going with a Dodgers (Justin Turner is playing tonight and has great value at $3,000) and Royals stack with Greinke on the mound. I still do like my orginial lineup which was the players listed below (Cespedes isn't playing....) however, as I'm right in the middle of these stroms and might not be able to update prior to the game, I'm playing it safe with a lineup that I know should all be playing. I've updated the image with my new lineup.
It’s Monday May 14th, 2018 and let’s take a look at the lineup I have going for today’s main slate (7:05 EST) for today’s MLB FanDuel contests.
As always, remember to check the weather and the starting lineups when they are released as you don’t want to find out before it’s too late that you have someone in your lineups that isn’t going to be playing this afternoon!
If you want to sneak peak of my lineup before this article is released, remember to check out my video posted on Sports Chat Place Facebook page! I also provide a “High Cost / Low Cost” article that will give you some additional options at each position.
Yesterday Recap: It wasn’t the start of the week we were hoping for as our Indians and Diamondbacks stacks did basically nothing and with just an average pitching performance by Tyler Anderson, it was a difficult night for us as our team finished with just 63.4 points. The overall scoring with pretty low last night but it still didn’t help us as outside of Jose Ramirez (24.9 Points), we didn’t get double-digit points from any other hitter in our lineup. Tyler Anderson was nothing great getting just 23 FanDuel points as he just couldn’t get any K’s and with 4 players (Scooter Gennett, A.J. Pollock, David Peralta, and Yonder Alonso) putting up 0 points, I was happy I decided not to stay up late to watch the Arizona game. As we know, these nights to happen so let’s rebound from last night and have a solid night tonight.
Here is my current lineup for today:
P – Noah Syndergaard (NYM - $10,000) – I was going back and forth with Syndergaard and Eduardo Rodriguez for the Red Sox however, I decided to settle on Thor as I really like his matchup against the Blue Jays on Tuesday. Syndergaard has a 3.09 ERA and 1.20 WHIP and has an impressive 10.4 K/9 ratio on the season. Syndergaard has yet to give more than 3 ER’s since his first start of the season and some of the most impressive stuff in the league with a fastball that can hit triple digits and a slider that is devastating. Toronto’s current roster hasn’t seen much of Syndergaard which should be to his advantage and as Chris Sale recently struck out 15 Blue Jays last week, I’m hoping that Syndergaard can get at least 10 K’s and get us a 50-60 point performance.
C/1B – John Hicks (DET - $2,700) – I need some value picks with going with Syndergaard as my pitcher and I’m certainly going to be looking at Detroit as they have a nice matchup against Josh Tomlin who comes into this game with a 8.06 ERA and 4.6 HR/9 ratio. John Hicks isn’t a household name however, the Tigers catcher is having a nice season as he comes into this game with a .289 average with 4 HR’s and 11 RBI’s. Hicks is hitting .304 over the past week with a HR and is 7 for 15 in his last 4 games. Tomlin gives up HR’s and as all of Hicks HR’s have come against RHP this season, I like his value at $2,700.
2B – Starlin Castro (MIA - $2,900) – Starlin Castro is having a productive season for Marlins and although he hasn’t shown much power so far this season, he does have a respectable .289 average with 2 HR’s and 18 RBI’s on the season. Castro is a target on Tuesday as he has been incredible against LHP on the season as he comes into this matchup with a .367 average and .859 OPS against LHP on the season. Castro is hitting over .300 at home this season and although he as a tougher than average matchup against Alex Wood of the Dodgers, Castro is 5 for 7 (.714 average/1.571 OPS) against Wood in his career.
3B – Kike Hernandez (LOS - $2,400) – Kike Hernandez doesn’t get to play every day, however, with Justin Turner still on the DL Hernandez has generally been getting the starts at 3B when going up against a LHP which he will be tonight against the struggling Wei-Yin Chen of the Marlins. This pick is more of a matchup based selected as Chen has been rocked in his last two starts and comes into this game with a 10.22 ERA, 1.95 WHIP, and 4.4 HR/9 ratio. Hernandez is hitting just .221 on the season but has some power and has 5 HR’s in just 95 AB’s on the year. Hernandez had a .579 slugging percentage and .946 OPS against LHP last season and at just $2,400, has some great value tonight.
SS – Chris Taylor (LOS - $3,600) – I’m staying with the Dodgers and going with Chris Taylor who also happens to be my “Long Ball Lock” of the day. Taylor is at SS now as he is filling in for the injured Corey Seager who was lost for the season due to Tommy John Surgery. Similar to Kike Hernandez, the matchup against Wei-Yin Chen is too good to pass up on as Chen has given up 5 HR’s in his last 7 IP. Chen is also allowing RHB’s to have a .361 average, .889 slugging percentage, and 1.367 OPS on the season. Taylor has the power to hit some HR’s and as he has generally hit better on the road (.302 average) over the past three seasons, I’m hoping for a big night from the Dodgers shortstop.
OF – Odubel Herrera (PHI - $3,800) – If you look at who is currently the best hitter in terms of average in the National League, you’ll find Odubel Herrera at the top of that list. Herrera comes into this game hitting .360 on the season with 6 HR’s and 24 RBI’s. Herrera has been on fire as of late as he has hits in 6 of his last 7 games and is hitting .500 (8-16) in that span. Herrera is up against Andrew Casher who has had trouble with HR’s this season as he has allowed at least 1 HR in each of his last five starts. Herrera is hitting .379 with a 1.018 OPS against RHP this season and as the wind should be blowing out at Camden Yards, I don’t mind spending up for Herrera tonight.
OF – Yoenis Cespedes (NYM- $3,900) – Yoenis Cespedes is hitting just .255 on the season however, still is showing that has great power as he currently has 8 HR’s and 28 RBI’s on the season. Cespedes has a nice matchup against the LHP Jamie Garcia of the Blue Jays tonight who comes in with 2.1 HR/9 Ratio and has really struggled on the road this season as he currently has a 8.36 ERA away from home. Cespedes is hitting .324 so far in the month of May which includes a 2-4 performance with a HR on Sunday and as Garcia certainly doesn’t have an overpowering arsenal, I think Cespedes will be able to barrel up some of Garcia’s offerings tonight.
OF – David Peralta (ARI - $3,300) – Peralta was disappointing last night as he went 0-4 however, I’m going right back with him as I still think he some very nice value at $3,300 batting at the top of the order in the hitters friendly Chase Field. Peralta is hitting .288 on the season with 7 HR’s and 21 RBI’s and has a decent matchup against the RHP Jhoulys Chacin of the Brewers who currently is allowing LHB’s to post a .299 average and .881 OPS against him on the season. Peralta is hitting has a .316 average and .978 OPS against RHP on the season and as he is 3 for 9 with a HR against Chacin in his career, I think Peralta gets back on track tonight.
Utility – Victor Martinez (DET- $2,400) – Didn’t have much salary left, however, with a lot of struggling pitchers on the mound, it wasn’t too hard to find some value with Victor Martinez who has that nice matchup against Josh Tomlin of the Indians. On top of the 4.6 HR/9 ratio that Tomlin has, he has really struggled against LHB’s as he is allowing them to post a .400 average (22-55) and 1.232 OPS against him. Martinez is hitting just .228 n the season however, is a better hitter from the left-side of the plate and still has a little pop in his bat as he has 3 HR’s on the season. Martinez has seen plenty of Tomlin in his career and as he has 3 career HR’s off the right-hander, he comes in with some nice value tonight.
Have a great Tuesday everyone and Good Luck tonight!
