Daily Fantasy Baseball (DFS) - MLB FanDuel Lineup – 5/16/18
Updated (11:39 PM) - Had to make some updates as both Bell and Gonzalez aren't starting today. After Cleveland's lineup was released, I decided to target some of the cheaper RHB's as they have a nice matchup against the LHP Ryan Carpenter. This allowed me pay up for Yoan Moncada who has been great as a LHB. I've updated the imgae below with the currently lineup who are listed as starters.
Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports
It’s Wednesday May 16th, 2018 and let’s take a look at the lineup I have going for today’s afternoon slate (12:05 EST) for today’s MLB FanDuel contests.
As always, remember to check the weather and the starting lineups when they are released as you don’t want to find out before it’s too late that you have someone in your lineups that isn’t going to be playing this afternoon!
If you want to sneak peak of my lineup before this article is released, remember to check out my video posted on Sports Chat Place Facebook page!
Yesterday Recap: We had a better day yesterday, however, I fell out of the money as my team finished with a 112.60 point performance. We hit well on our Detroit players as both Jacoby Jones (31.4 points) and Nick Castellanos (18.7 points) however our Dodgers stack of Chris Taylor, Kike Hernandez, and Justin Turner combined for just 9 points. Zack Greinke has a respectable performance for 34 points and Whit Merrifield continued his solid string of recent play with 16.5 points, however, Salvador Perez and David Peralta did very little combined just for 3 points.
Here is my current lineup for today:
I stayed away from the NYM/TOR game this afternoon as there is a decent possibility of a rainout however, if that game is a go, I don’t mind J.A. Happ as the Mets have really struggled agianst LHP on the season.
P – Trevor Bauer (CLE - $9,300) – Trevor Bauer is coming off his worst performance of the season against Kansas City, however, there is no reason why you shouldn’t feel comfortable going with the right-hander today as Bauer still comes into matchup with a 3.00 ERA and 1.22 WHIP. Bauer has an impressive K/9 ratio of 10.06 on the season and although the Detroit lineup has had some success against him in his career, I’m not worried about the current Tigers lineup that is going to be missing Miguel Cabrera and Leonys Martin. Bauer has a nice start earlier this season agianst the Tigers going 7 innings, giving up 2 ER’s while striking out 7 and Bauer is holding opponents to just a .188 average on the road and a .152 average during day games, I like Bauer’s chances for a solid game this afternoon.
C/1B – Brad Miller (TAM - $2,300) – Brad Miller isn’t having the greatest of seasons but the veteran infielder for the Rays still has some nice pop in his bat as he had 4 HR’s on the season and has nice matchup against a struggling Jason Hammel of the Kansas City Royals who has given up 20 ER’s in his last three starts. Hammel is allowing LHB’s to hit .834 against him on the season and struggled agianst Tampa Bay in the past as he posted a 7.71 ERA against them last season. Miller has a .438 slugging percentage and .775 OPS agianst RHP and for this low price, I think Miller has some nice value today.
2B – Erik Gonzalez (CLE - $2,300) – Erik Gonzalez is not an everyday player for the Indians but when given the opportunities this season, he has been productive for Cleveland as he comes in with a .367 average which included a 1-2 performance last night with a HR. Gonzalez started at 1B last night as the Detroit started a LHP and as they are doing the same thing today with LHP Ryan Carpenter going, I expect to see Gonzalez in the lineup. Carpenter has started just 1 game this season and it didn’t go well as he gave up 2 HR’s in just 3 IP and although Gonzalez is a good candidate to get pinched hit for, I’ll take a chance with him to save some salary for some bigger hitters in my OF.
3B – Jose Ramirez (CLE - $4,800) – Jose Ramirez started the season off slow however, has really picked it up since and currently comes into this game with a .297 average with 13 HR’s and 29 RBI’s. Ramirez is hitting .342 over the past week with 3 HR’s and has an impressive .358 average so far in the month of May. Ramirez has a great matchup agianst the LHP Ryan Carpenter of the Tigers on Wednesday and as he has posted a .327 average, .618 slugging percentage, and .991 OPS against RHP on the season, Ramirez is worth the price this afternoon.
SS – Jordy Mercer (PIT - $2,700) – Jordy Mercer has struggled over his past few games, however, the Pittsburgh SS did recently have a nice series agianst the White Sox and with the LHP Hector Santiago on the mound, I think Mercer has some good value today. Mercer is hitting just .237 on the season with 2 HR’s and 13 RBI’s however, is capable of hitting HR’s and has a .414 slugging percentage and .763 OPS against LHP over the past season. Santiago currently has a 5.60 ERA and 1.68 WHIP on the season and has he has given up 4 HR’s to RHB’s so far this season, I’m thinking Mercer will be able to break out of his mini slump against the White Sox’s today.
OF – Odubel Herrera (PHI - $3,800) – Odubel Herrera is having an outstanding start to his season and comes into this game with a .360 average with 6 HR’s and 24 RBI’s. Herrera is hitting .500 over the past week, .400 in the month of May, and currently leads the NL in batting average. Herrera has a nice matchup agianst Andrew Cashner of the Orioles who can give up HR’s. Herrera is hitting .379 with a 1.018 OPS agianst RHP on the season and as he is 6 for 14 with 2 HR’s against Cashner in his career, Herrera is a steal at $3,800.
OF – Marcell Ozuna (STL - $2,900) – Marcell Ozuna has been somewhat a disappointment for the Cardinals this season as he is hitting just .258 on the season with 3 HR’s and 20 RBI’s, however, as his price tag is under $3,000, he has some nice value today agianst the RHP Lance Lynn of the Twins who has struggled a bit this season. Lance Lynn comes into this game with a 7.34 ERA and 1.98 WHIP and has given up 5 HR’s over his past 4 starts. Ozuna hasn’t had much success against Lance Lynn in his career, however, with the HR-upside Ozuna brings at the price, he is worth putting in your lineup, so you can pay up elsewhere.
OF – Tommy Pham (STL - $3,900) – Tommy Pham has been the best player for the St. Louis Cardinals and although he has struggled as of late, the outfielder is still currently hitting .308 on the season with 7 HR’s, 17 RBI’s, and 7 SB’s. Pham has two HR’s over the past week and has posted a .297 average with a .923 OPS against RHP on the season. Lance Lynn is allowing RHP’s to hit .294 against him on the season and as I expect that St. Louis to snap out of their recent offensive funk and have a good day against Lynn, I want to make sure I have Pham in my lineup.
Utility – Josh Bell (PIT- $3,000) – Josh Bell has been on fire as of late as he has hits in 6 of his last 7 games and although he is hitting just .258 on the season, the Pittsburgh Pirate is hitting .353 with a HR over the past week and .333 so far in the month of May. Bell has the nice matchup agianst Hector Santiago and although most of his power has come from the left side of the plate, Bell still has posted a solid .286 average and .864 OPS against LHP on the season. Bell is hitting .333 during days game on the season and for just $3,000, he has some nice value.
Have a great Wednesday everyone and Good Luck this afternoon!
