Daily Fantasy Baseball (DFS) - MLB FanDuel Lineup – 5/17/18
It’s Thursday May 17th, 2018 and let’s take a look at the lineup I have going for tonight’s main slate (7:05 EST) for the MLB FanDuel contests.
As always, remember to check the weather and the starting lineups when they are released as you don’t want to find out before it’s too late that you have someone in your lineups that isn’t going to be playing this afternoon!
If you want to sneak peak of my lineup before this article is released, remember to check out my video posted on Sports Chat Place Facebook page!
Yesterday Recap: We picked it up yesterday as our afternoon as our team generally cashed in the 50/50’s with a 123.10 point performance. Leading the way for our team was Trevor Bauer (64 points) and Tommy Pham (24.9 points) while everyone on our team contributed with at least 3 points. We also posted a special “night” lineup on our Facebook Page which more comfortably hit our 50/50’s as we finished with 113.3 points while getting solid performances from Chris Sale (42 points), Yasmani Grandal (28.4 points), and Cody Bellinger (12.2 points).
Here is my current lineup for today:
The weather looks pretty decent today as the only game that might have a question mark with it is the Chicago Cubs/Atlanta Braves matchup as there is currently about a 50% chance of Thunderstorms/Rain.
P – Chad Kuhl (PIT - $7,700) – As their isn’t really any “aces” on the mound tonight, it will be important to find some value at the pitching spot and I’m going to go with the right-hander Chad Kuhl of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Kuhl has a favorable matchup against the San Diego Padres tonight and comes into the game with a respectable 4.17 ERA and 1.35 WHIP. Kuhl has pitched better at home this season as he has a 3.52 ERA at PNC Park while holding opponents to just a .256 average. Kuhl has a 8.34 K/9 ratio and faces a Padres team that ranks 29th in MLB in strikeout rate. Kuhl has recorded at least 6 K’s in 3 of his last 4 outings and as the Padres rank 27th in batting average against RHP on the season, I think Kuhl will be able to put a solid game together for our lineup tonight.
C/1B – Ian Desmond (COL - $2,600) – Ian Desmond is having a tough time piling up hits this season as he has just a .171 average, however, he still has shown some decent power as he has 6 HR’s and 17 RBI’s on the season. Desmond will be up against the right-handed Jeff Samardzija who has had a tough season as he currently has a 6.94 ERA and 1.71 WHIP and has given up 4 HR’s over his last 9.2 IP. Samardzija has fared well against RHB’s on the season, however, Desmond has owned this matchup over his career as he has a lifetime .417 average and 1.208 OPS with 2 HR’s against left-hander. The wind will be blowing out hard at AT&T Park tonight and as I think the Rockies will have a decent offensive day, I like Desmond to have a decent night.
2B – Sean Rodriguez (PIT - $2,500) – I’m going with value at the 2B position tonight with Sean Rodriguez of the Pirates as I’m a big fan of any RHB that is going up against Eric Lauer of the San Diego Padres tonight. Rodriguez is hitting just .171 on the season with 3 HR’s and 9 RBI’s however, has been crushing LHP’s on the season as he comes into this game with a .368 average (7 for 19) with 2 HR’s and 7 RBI’s. Lauer has been hit real hard by RHB’s as he is allowing them to hit .383 against and has given up 5 HR’s in just 60 AB against RHB’s. As I want to spend up in my OF tonight, I think Rodriguez is a great value at this price for 2B tonight.
3B – Danny Valencia (BAL - $2,900) – I promise, I will spend more than $3,000 on a hitter soon, but before that, I’m going to get some decent value from Danny Valencia of the Orioles. Valencia hasn’t played since last Sunday as the Orioles didn’t have games on Monday and Tuesday and faced a RHP yesterday, however, we should see Valencia tonight up against the LHP David Price of the Red Sox. Valencia is hitting .264 on the season with 5 HR’s and 11 RBI’s and is coming off his best game of the season after going 4 for 5 with a HR against Tampa Bay this past Sunday. Price hasn’t been anything special this season and as Valencia is an incredible 13 for 22 (.591 average/1.394 OPS) against Price in his career, he has some nice value for under $3,000 tonight.
SS – Manny Machado (BAL - $4,900) – I’m staying at Fenway again going with another Oriole in Manny Machado for my SS tonight. Machado has been incredible this season as he comes into this game hitting .342 with 13 HR’s and 38 RBI’s on the season. He is hitting .333 over the past week with 4 HR’s and has a solid .583 slugging percentage and .955 OPS against LHP on the season. Similar to Valencia, Machado has had no trouble figuring out David Price as in his career he is 11 for 37 (.297 average/.999 OPS) with HR’s off the left-hander. Price has been a shell of his former self so lately for the Red Sox and although I’m a Boston fan, I certainly can see the Orioles and Machado having a solid night at the plate.
OF – Charlie Blackmon (COL - $4,300) – Charlie Blackmon has been in somewhat a slump for his standards as of late, however, you have to love the 5-tool outfielder for the Colorado Rockies tonight in his matchup against Jeff Samardzija of the San Francisco Giants. Blackmon is hitting just .275 on the season, however, still has produced some solid offensive numbers as he has 11 HR’s, 21 RBI’s, and 4 SB’s on the season and is also my “Long Ball Lock” of the night. Samardzija comes into this game with a 6.94 ERA and has really struggled against LHB’s this season as he is allowing them to hit .372 (1.182 OPS) against him on the season. Blackmon has hit 10 of his 11 HR’s this season on road and has hit Samardzija well over his career as he has a .300 average (9 for 30) with 2 triples and a HR.
OF – Joey Gallo (TEX - $3,400) – Joey Gallo is one of the more “boom or bust” players you take in DFS as although he has some of the best power in the league and swings for the fences in every AB, he also can easily go 0-5 with 4 K’s. Gallo is hitting just .200 on the season however, does come into this game with 13 HR’s and 27 RBI’s on the season and I do like his matchup against the RHP James Shields of the Chicago White Sox. Shields has a 5.44 ERA on the season and although he has fared well against LHB’s, we all know that Shields is capable of giving up the long-ball. Gallo has 8 HR’s in 84 AB’s on the road this season and as his priced has dropped a bit as of late, I think he is a good option tonight.
OF – Shohei Ohtani (LAA - $3,400) – I’m going to go with the two-way star, Shohei Ohtani, as he has been every as advertised and comes into this game with a .325 average with 5 HR’s and 16 RBI’s on the season. Ohtani will be up against Chris Archer of the Rays who has really struggled his season as he currently has a 5.64 ERA and 1.41 WHIP. Archer allowed 3 HR’s against the Orioles in his last game and is allowing LHB’s to hit .313 against him on the season. Ohtani has a .355 average and 1.079 OPS against RHP on the season and I think he’ll find some success against Archer tonight.
Utility – Josh Bell (PIT- $3,300) – I wanted to go with Josh Bell yesterday and although he didn’t get the start, still helped the Pirates win the game with a pinch-hit RBI single in the 7th inning that put the Pirates the lead for good. Bell is hitting just .263 on the season with 3 HR’s and 25 RBI’s however, has been great as of late as over the past week he is hitting .375 with a HR and 7 RBI’s. Bell has one of the best matchups on the board against the LHP Eric Lauer who I’ve already mentioned has had his difficulties against RHB’s and as the switching hitting Bell has posted a .286 average and .864 OPS from the right-side of the plate on the season, I think Bell is almost a must in your lineups for this price.
Have a great Thursday everyone and Good Luck tonight!
