Daily Fantasy Baseball (DFS) - MLB FanDuel Lineup – 5/18/18
Update (4:58 PM) - I was just about to start heading down for the Nationals game but it looks as if it was just postponed.
I've decided to go a complete different direction and load up on Red Sox tonight against Alex Cobb. As I also didn't love any other of the "High-cost" pitchers, I'm going with Drew Pomeranz as he has K-upside against an Orioles team that strikes out a lot.
I also add Wellington Castillo with his good match-up against Matt Moore and added Corey Dickerson who had a good career history against Tyson Ross.
Good Luck everyone!
It’s Friday May 18th, 2018 and let’s take a look at the lineup I have going for tonight’s main slate (7:05 EST) for the MLB FanDuel contests.
As always, remember to check the weather and the starting lineups when they are released as you don’t want to find out before it’s too late that you have someone in your lineups that isn’t going to be playing this afternoon!
If you want to sneak peak of my lineup before this article is released, remember to check out my video posted on Sports Chat Place Facebook page!
Yesterday Recap: After a few cashes on our 50/50’s on Wednesday, we couldn’t keep the momentum going yesterday as our team finished the night with just 103.5 points. We got HR’s from both Manny Machado (22.2 points) and Shohei Ohtani (18.7 points) and decent games from out Pittsburgh hitters, Sean Rodriguez (12.5 points) and Josh Bell (12.7) points, however, just couldn’t get enough elsewhere to get over the cash line with poor performances from Chad Kuhl (16 points) and Joey Gallo (0 points).
Here is my current lineup for today:
P – Max Scherzer (WAS - $11,600) – I’m in Washington DC for the weekend and I just couldn’t resist going with Scherzer as not only will I be going to the game, the Nationals right-hander has been unbelievable even for his standards this season. Scherzer is currently 7-1 on the season with a 1.69 ERA and 0.82 WHIP while holding opponents to just a .167 average. Scherzer has been striking out people at an incredible rank as he currently has a 13.96 K/9 ratio and as he is holding the current Dodgers roster to just a .165 average, I think Scherzer will be able to get us at least 55-60 points tonight.
C/1B – Chris Iannetta (COL - $2,300) – Chris Iannetta has the night off last night so he should be in the lineup today and although he is hitting just .229 on the season, Iannetta has shown some decent power as he has 4 HR’s so far on the season. Iannetta has hit better on the road this season and has a great matchup against the LHP Derek Holland of the San Francisco Giants who he is 10 for 28 against with a HR in his career. The wind will be blowing out hard to CF in this matchup as Iannetta has HR-upside in this matchup, I think he has nice value at $2,300.
2B – Eduardo Nunez (BOS - $2,700) – Outside of Jackie Bradley Jr. and Christian Vazquez, Nunez has been one of the more disappointing hitters for the Red Sox to start season as he comes into this matchup with just a .233 average with 3 HR’s and 10 RBI’s. I’m going with Nunez today largely as I think the Red Sox are going to have a nice night against Alex Cobb who has really struggled this season and gave up 7 ER’s in just 3.1 IP against the Red Sox earlier this season. Nunez has actually hit better against RHP on the season (.259 avg, 3 HR’s, 10 RBI’s) and between the fact that he should have some nice opportunities with men on base and that he’ll be hitting near the middle of the lineup, I like Nunez’s value tonight.
3B – Josh Donaldson (TOR - $4,100) – Josh Donaldson will be going up against his old team the Oakland Athletics and I’m projecting him to have a big day against the A’s Brett Anderson who comes into this game with a 8.16 ERA, 2.02 WHIP, and 1.88 HR/9 ratio. Donaldson looks as if he is starting to regain his timing at the plate after missing time due and has fared well against LHP this season as he is hitting .294 against him. Donaldson has 5 HR’s on the season and is my “Long Ball Lock” of the day as over his last three seasons he has a .324 average and 1.04 OPS against Oakland.
SS – Marcus Semien (OAK - $3,200) – Marcus Semien is hitting just .274 on the season with 4 HR’s and 20 RBI’s however, has been great lately as over the past week he is hitting .324 with a HR and 6 RBI’s. Semien has a nice matchup against Marco Estrada of the Toronto Blue Jays who comes into this game with a 5.32 ERA and has really struggled against RHB’s this season as he is allowing them to hit .316 against him. Semien has homerun power and comes into this game with a HR in just two AB’s against Estrada in his career.
OF – Matt Joyce (OAK - $2,800) – Although Estrada has reverse splits as he has more success against LHB’s, I still think Joyce will be in the lineup tonight as over the past week he is hitting .304 with 3 HR’s and 4 RBI’s. Joyce has a .791 OPS against RHP’s over his last three seasons and as Estrada has a 2.05 HR/9 ratio on the season, I’m hoping Joyce can continue his hot streak and gets us a HR tonight.
OF – Curtis Granderson (TOR - $2,700) – Curtis Granderson comes into this game with a .270 with 3 HR’s and 14 RBI’s and although he has been sitting against LHP’s for most of the season, I expect him to in the lineup today against Brett Anderson as he is 5 for 12 with a HR against the Oakland left-hander. Anderson has really struggled this season and is allowing LHB’s to hit .313 against him on the season. Granderson has been seeing the ball well as of late as he is hitting .300 with two doubles and 3 BB’s over his last three games and although you’ll need to ensure he gets the start, I like Granderson at this price tonight.
OF – Teoscar Hernandez (TOR - $3,400) – As you can tell by now, I’m trying to target the Oakland/Toronto game tonight and I’m hoping that Teoscar Hernandez will be in the lineup tonight with his matchup against Brett Anderson as he sat out last night’s game with a sore back. Hernandez is hitting .272 on the season with 7 HR’s and 18 RBI’s and has played well as of late as he is hitting .350 over the past week. Hernandez is hitting .306 with a .907 OPS at home this season and as he has plenty of power to have a big game against Anderson, I think Hernandez is a great option at this price.
Utility – Byron Buxton (MIN- $2,200) – I needed some value with just $2,200 and although this is a stretch, I’m going to go with Buxton who just has too much talent to be hitting just .167 on the season. Buxton has a nice matchup tonight against the LHP Brent Suter who comes into this game with a 5.14 ERA, 1.93 HR/9 ratio, and is allowing RHB’s to hit .311 against him on the season. Buxton hit .282 against LHP’s last season and as he the power/speed to go off for a big game, I’m going to take my chances with him on Friday.
Have a great Friday everyone and Good Luck tonight!
