Daily Fantasy Baseball (DFS) - MLB FanDuel Lineup – 5/19/18
Update (11:14 AM) - Had to make some adjustments with Lowrie not getting the start this afternoon. Decided to replace Nick Williams with Stephen Piscotty who is batting 6th in a good matchup against the Blue Jays today. With the extra money saved, I ended up replaced Joey Votto with Carlos Santana who has been hitting much better as of late and has a nice matchup with John Gant of the Cardinals.
I've updated the image below with my new lineup.
It’s Saturday May 19th, 2018 and let’s take a look at the lineup I have going for the “Early Only” slate (1:05 EST) for the MLB FanDuel contests.
As always, remember to check the weather and the starting lineups when they are released as you don’t want to find out before it’s too late that you have someone in your lineups that isn’t going to be playing this afternoon!
If you want to sneak peak of my lineup before this article is released, remember to check out my video posted on Sports Chat Place Facebook page!
Here is my current lineup for today:
P – Sean Manaea (OAK - $8,500) – I’m going with Sean Manaea of the A’s this afternoon as the Oakland left-hander has really put it together this season and comes into this game with a 2.35 ERA and 0.80 WHIP. Manaea has just a 7.19 K/9 but has some the arsenal to get a few K’s and has a great matchup against the Blue Jays. Toronto comes into this game hitting just .227 against LHP’s this season and recently really struggled against Chris Sale who recorded 15 K’s against the Blue Jays last week. Manaea is holding opponents to a .186 average on the season and as he has posted 40+ FanDuel points in 5 different games this season, I like Manaea this afternoon.
C/1B – Joey Votto (CIN - $3,900) – Joey Votto has a slow start to his season however, his numbers are starting to pick up and comes into this game with a .284 average, 6 HR’s, and 24 RBI’s. Votto is hitting .340 with 2 HR’s over the past two weeks and had a decent matchup against Kyle Hendricks of the Chicago Cubs this afternoon. Hendricks has been solid this season as he has a 3.20 ERA and 1.03 WHIP however, he has had some trouble with the HR ball against LHB’s this season as he already has allowed LHB’s to hit 6 HR’s in just 73 AB’s on the season. Votto is hitting .330 against RHP on the season and as he is 7 for 14 lifetime with 2 HR’s against Hendricks in his career, I’ll pay up a bit for him today.
2B – Jed Lowrie (OAK - $4,000) – Oakland has one of the better matchups this afternoon as they will be going up against the RHP Sam Gaviglio of the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday. Gaviglio has pitched well in two bullpen apperances this season, however, this is still the same RHP that has a career 4.23 ERA and gave up 16 HR’s last season in just 74.1 IP. Lowrie has been outstanding this season this season as he currently has a .328 average with 9 HR’s and 37 RBI’s. Lowrie has 8 of his 9 HR’s against RHP’s on the season and as he is batting .331 and posting a 1.017 OPS as a LHB this season, Lowrie is worth the high price tag this afternoon.
3B – Matt Carpenter (STL - $2,900) – It’s been a tough season for Matt Carpenter as the 7-year veteran is currently hitting just .173 on the season with 3 HR’s and 15 RBI’s, however, Carpenter looks like he is just about to break out of his season long funk as he is hitting .333 over the past week and is 3 for 8 so far in his current series against Philadelphia. Carpenter will be going up against Zack Eflin who although he has pitched well this season still has a career 5.39 ERA and coming into this season was allowing LHB’s to hit .299 and post a .932 OPS against him. Carpenter is still under $3,000 and if he is going to start to hit like we know he can, this is great value.
SS – Scott Kingery (PHI - $2,100) – Scott Kingery has a great start to his Phillies career however, it’s been a struggle as of late for the Philadelphia SS and comes into this game currently hitting .218 with 2 HR’s and 13 RBI’s. I needed value at this position as I’m going to pay up in the OF and as the Phillies have one of the better matchups on the afternoon slate against John Gant, who has been nothing more than average with a 4.15 ERA. Kingery has hit much better against RHP on the season as he has posted a .236 average and .644 OPS and I’ll hope that he can get a couple of base hits on Saturday.
OF – Khris Davis (OAK - $3,700) – Khris Davis is hitting just .233 on the season but when it comes to daily fantasy, Davis has been outstanding as he comes into this game with 13 HR’s and 38 RBI’s. Davis and Oakland will face the hittable Sam Gaviglio who coming into this season, was allowing RHB’s to post a .282 average and .859 OPS against him. Davis has reverse splits as a hitter as he hits better against RHP’s and on the season currently has 11 of his 13 HR’s against righties.
OF – Odubel Herrera (PHI - $4,100) – Odubel Herrera has been outstanding this season for the surprising Phillies as he comes into this game with a .358 average with 6 HR’s and 27 RBI’s. Gant has really struggled against LHB’s this season as he allowing them to hit .300 against him. Herrera has crushed RHB’s on the season as he has posted a .374 average and .994 OPS against them on the season. Herrera is hitting .364 in day games and .385 in May so I have no problem spending up for him this afternoon.
OF – Nick Williams (PHI - $2,500) – I’m going to go with some value in my last OF spot and take a chance with Nick Williams of the Philadelphia Phillies who should be getting the start tonight going against the RHP John Gant of the Cardinals. Williams is hitting just .231 on the season with 2 HR’s and 8 RBI’s but does have HR power and showed last year that he is a solid hitter against RHP’s as he posted a .293 average and .838 OPS against righties last season.
Utility – Matt Olson (OAK- $3,300) – I wanted to get one more Oakland bat in against Sam Gaviglio of the Blue Jays and decided to go with the powerful Matt Olson for the A’s. Olson is only hitting just .239 on the season however, does have 7 HR’s and 19 RBI’s on the season. Olson has a .261 average and .859 OPS against RHP’s on the season and as all 7 of his HR’s have been against righties on the season, I think Olson could provide us a nice game this Saturday afternoon.
Have a great Saturday everyone and Good Luck this afternoon!
